Q & A WITH
ROB LOWE
STORIES I ONLY TELL MY FRIENDS
LIVE
You know him for his endearing characters on “The West Wing,” on “Parks and Recreation” and as part of the iconic Brat Pack. Ahead of his intimate tour, Rob Lowe answers a few of our burning questions. What’s the most fun you’ve ever had on a project?
RL
Three-way tie: The Outsiders, St. Elmo’s Fire, Parks and Rec were all great times in my life surrounded by people I love.
You don’t seem to age. Do you have one tip or trick you’d like to share?
RL
Since you asked, I’ve been using my own skin care regiment for years, Profiles 4 Men
How does tour life compare to life on a film o television set?
RL
This is as close as I will ever come to being a rockstar and I love it! Hotels that all look the same. Dressing rooms that all look the same. Great enthusiastic audiences who are all diffe ent. And the adrenaline of being alone onstage in front of thousands of people while having to deliver.
Rob Lowe: Stories I Only Tell My Friends 4
Spring/Summer 2019
What’s your guilty pleasure?
RL
UFO and conspiracy theory documentaries.
What initially pushed you to write something so personal with “Stories I Only Tell My Friends” and “Love Life”?
RL
I am a huge fan of the memoir genre, but there are also some of the worst memoirs imaginable out there. I wanted to write the kind that I love reading so much.
How would you describe this tour in three words or less?
RL
Funny. Personal. Sneakily emotional. (I know that’s four words, I don’t take direction well.)

Tony Award®-winning Broadway legend Betty Buckley stars in Hello, Dolly! – the universally acclaimed smash that NPR calls “the best show of the year!” Winner of four Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival, director Jerry Zaks’ “gorgeous” new production (Vogue) is “making people crazy happy” (The Washington Post) and “a musical comedy dream!” (Rolling Stone).
Betty Buckley on Becoming Dolly When my mother took me to see my first musical, I had this epiphany: hat’s it! That’s what you’re going to be doing for the rest of your life! I was a performer from age 11 on, a professional at 15 — playing Baby June in Gypsy — and on Broadway at 21 in 1776. Once you’ve been smitten by the beauty of all these talented artists coming together to create great musical theater, it’s life changing. I first saw Hello, Dolly! when I was a senior in high school, a stock production at our local theater, the Casa Manana. And then on a college trip to New York I saw Pearl Bailey in the original Gower Champion production on Broadway. Hello, Dolly! is one of the all-time wonderful musicals in the lexicon of musical comedy. And this new production, directed by Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Warren Carlyle; it’s so fresh and so outstandingly beautiful. When I saw it in New York, it was like the greatest ice cream sundae that I’ve ever seen! I’m honored and thrilled to do Dolly now, to take it across the country. I’m a cowgirl from Texas, so anything that’s challenging is really super fun for me. I love the discipline of being a musical theater artist and having to show up eight times a week, and get it right for each and every audience. Get ready for the funniest, most fabulous Tupperware Party with everyone’s favorite fast-talkin’ Tupperware Lady! Dixie Longate pops the top on her show with some words of wisdom.
Q: A: Q: A: Q: A: Q: A:
What’s the recipe for a stellar Tupperware party? Like any party, a Tupperware party succeeds when you have fun people who are ready to laugh and share their smiles, a credit card and vodka. Plenty of vodka.
What’s your favorite piece of Tupperware? There are so many pieces that I couldn’t live without. I love the Jello Shot caddy. The Pick-A-Deli is in my fridge right now filled with watermelon wedges an pineapple soaking in rum getting ready to pack for school lunches.
Do you have any advice for the modern working woman? Be the boss! You may not be the president of the PTA. But in some aspect of your life, you have to be the boss. Whether you are “Large and In Charge” or “Skinny and In Control,” you owe it to yourself because the world gets better when you are showing your strength.
You’ve been to Charlotte a few times now. What’s been your favorite thing about bringing the show here to the Queen City? All y’all from Charlotte are just so dang neighborly. I think I have ended up spending more time hanging around after the show with some of you than the amount of time it takes me to do the show. That is when I know I am having fun. I look forward to sharing more time with y’all very soon!
