STAR TREK: THE ULTIMATE VOYAGE

"S

WELCOME

pace: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.” Musically speaking, the voyages have been equally exploratory. Many composers, always aided by incredibly talented musicians, have painted with their own instrumental palettes their individual colors of music, spanning centuries of existence. The one unifying element of this musical journey has always been the sound of the symphony orchestra. Beginning with Gene Roddenberry’s vision, the producers of the various films and television programs realized from the outset that the symphonic sound has endured through the ages, so why not in the future as well. In a sense, orchestral music has “lived long and prospered” and will continue to do so as these concerts pay homage to the vast legacy of music composed for this futuristic franchise. I am blessed to have been a contributor

to this wonderful universe. To have worked with some of the very best writers, producers, artists, actors, directors and, of course, musicians was the highlight of my career. My favorite episode, “The Inner Light,” will be represented in concert at this event. It is a most poignant story of the intersection of past and future lives and is brought together musically by the haunting sounds of the penny whistle. The quote from Captain Picard in this episode to his daughter is a great life lesson: “Seize the time, Meribor - live now! Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again.” – Patrick Stewart as Kamin speaking to Meribor, his daughter.

– Jay Chattaway, Composer
