PROJECT
JOINING FORCES FOR GOO With nearly one-third of American women reporting physical or sexual abuse at some point in their lives, the domestic violence support services provided by Project Safe are an invaluable
resource to the Athens community. Project Safe, a 501c3 non-profit organization, serves as a safe
house for domestic violence victims and their children as well as a confidential emergency shelter and hotline.
Led by a committed staff, Project Safe works tirelessly to end domestic violence through
prevention and educational programs, crisis intervention and ongoing supportive services for survivors and their children. As a testament to the dedication and hard work of Project Safe,
Executive Director Joan Prittie recently received the prestigious Sunshine Peace Award. This
award honors extraordinary individuals in the field of domestic violence and is given to just 15 people nationally.
Although the majority of clients come from Athens and the surrounding area, Project Safe is a
routing point for a national hotline. Through this service, Project Safe is able to assist women and children both from across Georgia and out-of-state. 19 | SUMMER INTRO ISSUE
SAFE
OD IN THE COMMUNITY To further the mission to end domestic violence, Project Safe opened P.S. Too, a re-sale store offering brand-name clothing and accessories. With the tagline, “Fashion that heals, P.S. Too donates all proceeds directly to Project Safe.
As fellow Athens residents, the BLVD staff would like to thank Project Safe for the tremendous work they have done to better our community. Throughout the next year, BLVD is excited to partner with
Project Safe with the shared mission of ending domestic violence. By combining forces, we at BLVD
hope to increase awareness and provide extra funding to help support the domestic violence victims residing in our community.
It is time to take a stand and join the fight to end domestic violence, and BLVD is proud to be a part of
this opportunity to reach out to our community. For more information on how to get involved, visit the Project Safe website at www.project-safe.org or call 706-549-0922.
