President’s Message

Welcome back to the September edition of our Builder Buzz magazine! I Hope everyone is having an easy transition out of summer and into the school year for those with children.

Our August BMHBA activities consisted of another successful event out at Capital City Sporting Clays in Bismarck for the 17th annual clay sporting shoot. We had a great turnout with 13 teams participating, consisting of 6 individuals per team. Thank you to all those who attended and most importantly, thank you to Capital City Sporting Clays for hosting us and to our sponsors for making this all happen!

September is a big month for your local builders, as we gear up for our 32nd annual Fall Parade of Homes! This year’s parade will consist of 24 homes showcased by our Bismarck- Mandan Builders. This is a great event to attend to get your ideas, see the latest trends and meet some of our wonderful builders. The event will run from Thursday September 26th -Sunday September 29th

Looking ahead into October, mark down on your calendar the Fall Mixer coming up on Tuesday the 15th at Lady J’s Club and catering. We will have appetizers, prize raffles, and announcements of our newly elected Board Members. I encourage everyone to come out for a great evening of socializing and to support your local BMHBA This event is free to all members and your guests. Most importantly, Thank you everyone for your continued support towards the BMHBA. Our members are what help keep this organization thriving in order to help everyone within our local building community!

ANDREW MELDAHL 2024 BMHBA PRESIDENT

For the second year in a row, the Bismarck Mandan Professional Women in Building proudly rolled up our sleeves and joined the United Way’s Day of Caring in 2024! This time, we partnered with the local YMCA to take on some exciting projects. From digging, setting, and leveling 6x6 posts for new benches at the kids' camp, to freshening up indoor spaces with a splash of paint, we had an amazing time getting things done.

We’re all about giving back to our community and showcasing the strength of women in the building industry. Speaking of which, we're excited to announce that we’ll be hosting a fun and relaxed social on Thursday, September 12th at The Pier Bar & Grill! If you're a woman in the building industry and interested in learning more about the local PWB, please join us we’d love to meet you!

NewVision Security

What is an interesting fact about your business? NewVision is the largest independently owned security company in the state of North Dakota, and we now have locations in Fargo and Rapid City South Dakota

What is a typical day like for you? My typical day includes meeting with homeowners, builders and business leaders around the state to help with the concerns they have about security

If I weren’t in the Security Industry, I’d be … Working to achieve a consumer or service-based business on my own that resembles the core values of NewVision

What do you hope to see NewVision Security to accomplish in the coming years? I hope to see NewVision security extend our reach to homeowners and business owners throughout the state. Having a local security company be involved and service their own community is how proper security should work!

What inspired you to enter this industry? It might sound cliché but, in my experience, most cliché phrases are true, I was inspired by how many different people need security and in turn how many different people I get to meet and help.

What makes your business unique from other security companies? The thing that makes us unique in our area is that all we do is security. Our entire staff is focused solely on a security mindset, and we can provide security on a 5 square foot shed to a 500,000 square foot warehouse.

What is your favorite part of your job? My favorite part is that one day I will be designing a system for a church and the next day I will be coming up with ideas to secure a water park. Every day is very different.

What is your favorite quote that speaks to you or business model the most? “Security should be Proactive not Reactive.” It’s interesting to sell something that you hope the end user never has to use but in the case that they do, they have the proper equipment in place.

What do you like to do in your spare time, or do you have a fun fact to share? I enjoy doing anything DIY whether it be around the house or even creating something that I can sell. Woodworking has been a fun hobby.

Around Our State

The North Dakota Association of Builders would like to celebrate and recognize our invaluable Associate Members! In 1981 the National Association of Home Builders designated September as Associate Member Appreciation Month and since then September has become our time to celebrate the contributions our Associate members make to our industry every day. These members constitute approximately two-thirds of NAHB’s membership. Associates provide the support, trade skills and materials that every housing professional needs to do business every day. Thank you, Associates!

Various Executive Officers and staff across the state attended NAHB’s Association Management Conference in Salt Lake City, August 22-22. We all had a great time learning from our peers from across the country and connecting with one another to gain insight on supporting our membership throughout North Dakota.

Last call! Register for NAHB’s Fall Leadership Meetings in San Antonio, TX on October 1-3. These meetings bring together the Leadership Council, Board of Directors, committee/council members, and executive officers to make decisions and provide guidance on advocacy, membership and the future of the association. The meetings will be held at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country. Register at https://www.nahb.org/subsites/fall-leadership-meeting/registration

Registration is now open for the 2025 International Builders’ Show® (IBS)! The 2024 show welcomed nearly 70,000 visitors from more than 100 countries. The 2025 show will take place in Las Vegas on February 25-27. Go to www.buildersshow.com to register in September. You can also book your hotel room through the NDAB hotel block at the Westgate when you register.

NDAB’s fall events will be held in Williston, November 11-13. Be on the lookout for official email invitations with registration going live in October. There will be a BUILD-PAC Bourbon event the night of November 11th, committee meetings and the Annual Banquet on November 12th, and the board meeting on November 13th. The meetings and Annual Banquet will be at McCody Concrete. We encourage all members to make the trip to Williston as we induct our 2025 Board of Directors, 2025 President Bob Horab, and announce our 2024 award winners!

Upcoming Dates:
