Dominated by the Great Plains, North Dakota bridges the gap between the gentle Midwest and the rugged west and will appeal to those looking for a frontier feeling

Why sell it

With 70,000 square miles of mostly wideopen spaces, North Dakota is the perfect place to social distance and offers a smorgasbord of outdoor activities. It’s easy to get to, and is one of the most affordable USA road trips you can take.

Who to sell to

This is a state for outdoor lovers and adventure seekers. Wildlife enthusiasts will find bison, bighorn sheep and elk, eagles and hawks circling overhead and prairie dogs scampering below.

Travellers keen to soak up western and Native American culture will be spoilt for choice, with horse trails to ride, historic trading outposts and ancient Indian settlements to visit, ranches to stay at and authentic western dining to taste.

What to sell

The rugged buttes of North Dakota’s Badlands provide the backdrop for Theodore Roosevelt National Park, where bison and mustang roam. Add to that 13 state parks and more wildlife refuges than any other state (63) . Devils Lake has some of the most abundant water recreational opportunities with watercraft rentals, watersport activities and fishing.

For hikers and bikers the 144-mile-long Maah Daah Hey Trail is the most famous and covers the Badlands, while golf enthusiasts will relish the Triple Golf Challenge with picturesque courses like Bully Pulpit in Medora, and the Links of North Dakota overlooking Lake Sakakawea.

When to sell

North Dakota is traditionally a May to October destination. The state holds many rodeos between May and September, including the oldest and largest, Mandan Rodeo Days. Rodeos are held nearly every weekend. Native American powwow’s also take place most summer weekends and finish with the United Tribes International Powwow in Bismarck, usually held over the second weekend in September.

How to sell

Bordering Minnesota, Montana and South Dakota, North Dakota is usually combined with neighbouring states for a touring trip.

For the ultimate RV trip tell clients to drive the Interstate 94 across North Dakota from the film-famous Fargo to wild west town Medora, with a night spent in Theodore Roosevelt National Park campground. •
