GOOD NEWS FOR G2 God’s generous provision for one of the capital’s busiest hospitals

Receiving six new mission workers is an exciting answer to prayer for BMS partner Guinebor II (G2) mission hospital in Chad. Working in a country with a reported one doctor per 25,000 people, the crack team consists of Bethan, a music therapist and her husband Gareth Shrubsole, who will be the hospital manager; Mel, a public health specialist and her husband, GP Tom Spears; and Brian and Jackie Chilvers, both trained nurses. Working alongside BMS pharmacist Claire Bedford and BMS surgeon Kalbassou Doubassou, they’ll deliver healthcare to over 16,000 people in one of Africa’s poorest nations. Continue to pray as G2 looks to double its capacity in the next five years, ensuring Chadians have access to quality healthcare.

TALKING TABOOS Tackling period poverty in Nepal

Talking publicly about periods may be uncomfortable, but not as much as having one – let alone one without sanitary products. In many countries like Nepal, periods are a barrier to a better future. In addition to the cultural stigma around periods that exists globally, in Nepal, up to 50 per cent of girls leave school due to a lack of sanitation facilities. That’s why BMS educational consultant Wendy Hall is breaking taboos, working alongside Nepali nurses to reach remote areas with talks on menstrual health – making periods manageable and shame-free.

GOD’S UNCHANGING GOSPEL Kang-San Tan

hristians are navigating changing trends in mission today. The old paradigms, which God used so greatly in the past, no longer serve missions as well today. The church planting and evangelism of the modern mission movements have resulted in maturing churches in non-Western nations. But at the same time, we are acutely aware of a changing Britain, whereby we are not immune from rising nationalism, the challenge of migration, huge gaps between rich and poor and the ecological crisis. How do we free ourselves from our national agendas as we seek to participate in God’s unchanging and global missions? C

Having consulted with a wide range of stakeholders in the UK, as well as international partners, BMS’ leaders are seeking God in our strategy for 2021-2025. Referring to salvation by faith in Christ, made known through the Scriptures, the writer of Hebrews urged Christians to “pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away” (Heb 2: 1).

Please join us in praying that BMS will remain faithful to God’s unchanging gospel as we discern new strategies which are appropriate for our changing and complex mission scenes.
