China Symphony Orchestra of Shenzhen Tue 12 April | Symphony Hall | 7:30PM Daye Lin conductor | Vadim Repin violin Programme: Ye Xiaogang Beautiful Countryside Sibelius Violin Concerto Mahler Symphony no. 1 This major Chinese symphony orchestra’s visit to Birmingham also brings a legendary Russian violinist. Described by Yehudi Menuhin as ‘simply the best and most perfect violinist that I have ever had the chance to hear’, Vadim Repin has captivated audiences worldwide since announcing himself with a series of prestigious competition wins in the 1980s. Here he performs Sibelius’s atmospheric Violin Concerto, whose icy drama pitches the desolate beauty of its virtuosic solo lines against a taut orchestral chorus.

This concert will recreate elements of the Good Friday liturgy from Leipzig as Bach knew it. Sung in German with English subtitles.
