Dates: April 21 - 9 May | 8pm

Joe Orton’s final play is a hilarious farce which revolves around Dr. Prentice, a psychiatrist attempting to seduce his attractive prospective secretary, Geraldine Barclay. As part of the job interview he convinces her to undress. When his wife enters, he attempts to cover up his activity by hiding the girl behind a curtain. His wife, however, is also being seduced and blackmailed by a Nicholas Beckett. She therefore promises Nicholas the post as secretary, which adds further confusion, including Nicholas and Geraldine dressing as the opposite sex. Dr. Prentice’s clinic is then faced with a government inspection... What follows is a near faultless piece of theatrical invention as these ingredients form the basis for a perfect recipe of outrageous confusion! THE COMPANY:

Price: pay what you can
Born out of the late night, cider fuelled, knees up in the Nag’s Head bar at Twinwood Vintage Music Festival in 2013 and 2014, Carradine’s Cockney Singalong was launched in the Mahogany Bar at Wilton’s Music Hall in October 2014, we are thrilled to bring Tom’s Cockney Singalongs to Brighton. Tom Carradine, pianist with Champagne Charlie and the Bubbly Boys and regular accompanist on the London cabaret circuit, decided that he wanted to bring the atmosphere and joyous community singing of the Twinwood singalongs to London, and so created this event, at Wiltons, and now, here at Emporium, monthly. Set in our café-bar. Tickets are ‘pay what you can’ which means you give a contribution for the evening on arrival. [ 08 ] www.emporiumbrighton.com

May-We-Go-Round? Dates: May 26-30 | 8pm
Price: £8
Uncompromising yet utterly accessible, May-We-Go-Round? Is a collision of fiercely energetic dance & comedic theatre taking audiences on the bitter-sweet ride of romance. A provocative, playful and gritty insight into our romantic disillusionment; it swings wildly between hilarious truths and intimate vulnerability. We are enthralled by the process of falling for someone, yet flummoxed & irritated by the whole charade. Are we enjoying it? Yes. Does it make sense? No. But, round and round we go... Feedback from ‘Scratch Performance’ Dome Studio, March 2015 ‘Vibrant, fun, dynamic, ever changing…the humour and timing are excellent and the dancing is exquisite to watch’ ‘Incredible! Funny, charming, strong, moving - I was on the edge of my seat’ ‘Utterly uplifting and inspiring’ ‘Haven’t laughed that much in a long time! So original and unexpected’ ‘Comedy gold, laughed the whole way through’ ‘It was brilliant! So funny! Reminded me of French and Saunders’
