INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL PROTECTION OF LNG TANKS Individuals not involved with the installation, for example employees with no responsibility for the LNG or visitors to the site, should be kept well away from it. ‘No smoking’ and other signs should be clearly displayed and maintained. The tank should be protected from unauthorized access to reduce the chance of intended or accidental intervention. Tank valve covers should be kept locked whether or not the tank is enclosed. The side wall and bottom portion of in-ground storage tanks have a multiplex structure with three layers: Protected Concrete, PUF Insulation and a membrane.      
