Boardsmill Stud Stallions 2017
Boardsmill Stud is one of the longest serving independent stallion farms in Ireland. Founded by the late Jack Flood (father of William) in 1935, numerous successful stallions have stood at Boardsmill up to present day. From the French Bred J’Accours in the 1930’s to the versatile Chou Chin Chow in the ‘60s to the hugely popular Orchestra and Furry Glen in 80’s and ‘90s, Boardsmill has remained at the helm for over 8 decades. As a point of principle, Boardsmill Stud operates a limited books policy which is aimed at protecting the interests of the loyal breeders who use Boardsmill Sires.
Serving the Irish Breeder since 1935
January 2017
Dear Breeder, We are delighted to present you with our 2017 brochure, which features our expanded roster of four proven sires.
Our new acquisition MOUNT NELSON arrived with us in October and has been tremendously well received so far. He is a fabulous looking horse with the most athletic walk. He is certainly capturing the imagination of Flat and National Hunt breeders alike, with mares of both codes from Ireland, UK and France already booked in. As you will see in the brochure, his progeny enjoyed a hugely successful 2016 and his statistics stack up with some of the best Flat sires in the business. The Willie Mullins trained Penhill has already notched up two Graded wins over hurdles and with a number of exciting prospects under both codes to run for him in 2017, he is a very exciting dual purpose addition to the Irish stallion ranks. CALIFET has enjoyed an incredible past 24 months with his progeny. In that period, he has sired more individual French Bred Grade 1 winners than any other sire. Both of his Grade 1 winners last year hail from his 2012 crop of just 43 foals, which also includes the exciting Cilaos Emery. He continues to produce high class runners over hurdles and fences from limited numbers. These achievements have been recognised in the sales ring with his second crop of Irish bred foals selling extremely well at the recent foal sales. COURT CAVE’s early rise to prominence from his his initial small crops came in 2011/12 with the arrival of his first Graded winners Champion Court and Court Minstrel. His latest star to emerge is Grade 2 winner Willoughby Court and he hails from his last ‘small’ crop of just 46 foals in 2011. His 2012 crop of 80 foals produced a number of promising 4yo point-to-point and bumper winners in 2016 and his first ever crop numbering over 100 are 4 year olds in 2017. He has been flying high on the Leading Sires List throughout this season and with an eye on the future it is interesting to note that of the Leading 40 sires (prizemoney, as at Jan 16th), he is the 2nd youngest Irish based sire. This is the ideal year to use Court Cave. KALANISI continues to deliver big race winners. His first NH bred representatives continue to impress and following on from Barters Hill, Grade 1 performers Brain Power and Kalane were both impressive stakes winners over the Christmas period. The ultimate all round sire, Kalanisi is a proven sire of sales toppers, major festival winners under both codes as well as stakes winners on the flat, over hurdles and over fences. One of the most encouraging features of his record at stud to date is his high percentage of winning fillies - both on the flat and under NH rules and he has sired stakes winning fillies on the flat, over hurdles and over fences. Not many living sires can boast such a record with their fillies. Should you require any more information on any of our sires or would like to discuss fees and concessions, please do not hesitate to call us. We wish you a successful 2017 breeding season. Yours sincerely, William & John Flood Boardsmill Stud, Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland Tel: 00 353 (0)46 9431305 • Mobile: 00 353 (0)87 9066772 • E-mail: info@boardsmillstud.com • www.boardsmillstud.com
