Active at Home!
DIY Dining With Chef Paul and Shawn Despite our hotel and main dining area for The Mill Room closing recently, our restaurant staff has been busy creating carryout options for our local citizens here in Charlottesville. With a little extra spare time on their hands, our Executive Chef Paul D'Amelio and our Food & Beverage Director Shawn Jernigan have taken a slice out of their day to pass along some of their favorite concoctions that will serve you well in your own kitchen during our stay-at-home period. One of Shawn's favorites is The Badminton cocktail created with your favorite gin while Chef Paul reveals a simple at-home recipe for a mouth-watering pasta. On the Range
Simon's Sanitation Station When our Virginia governor announced the recent stay-at- home order a few days ago, he actually encouraged getting out and exercising while still practicing social distancing. He even specifically mentioned that it is permissible to keep golf courses open. With our golf course in the middle of a multi-million dollar reimagination project by Davis Love III, you can't play a full 18 here yet, but our driving range is still open. With social distancing in mind, we are taking several precautions so everyone is safe while enjoying the range. To keep a safe distance, we have closed every other tee box, and our Birdwood Clubhouse is closed to walk-in traffic, but we are still avaialble for contactless service. Click the play button to the left to hear Simon, our resident PGA Professional, talk about our new driving range standards.
Making Our Mark Not only is Davis Love III and his Love Design Group making their mark on our new course, but we're making our own mark on The Pro Shop with some early orders of Birdwood logo apparel to get ready for the masses when the new Birdwood Golf Course opens up later this summer. The good news is, you don't have to wait. Even though, our Clubhouse is technically closed to walk-in traffic, you can still order Birdwood merchandise over the phone. Keep Moving Workouts with Emily Anne The only thing more booming than Emily Anne's vibrant personality is her at-home workouts. Whether it's in the backyard or out in the driveway, this is your time to commit to be fit! It's certainly no secret that tennis is one of our passions here at Boar's Head Resort, so Emily Anne decided to tag Troy, our head tennis professional, along for this fast-paced workout that's full of fancy footwork and high (air) fives. Click the play button on the right to join along. For a handful of extra dynamic movement exercises that you can sprinkle into your daily at-home routine, click the link at the top of this page as Emily Anne shares some of her favorite exercises from our former 14th green at the golf course.
Family-Friendly Hiking
Explore the Trails at Boar's Head Resort Unlike any other hotel property in the Charlottesville area, Boar's Head Resort is uniquely situated on 600 acres which boasts an array of plant and wildlife viewing opportunities. Guests and locals are invited to explore our trail system that meanders deep into the woods directly in stride with our Audubon-certified golf course. A stroll on our pathways will take you past a few lakes and ponds, some low-lying wetlands and even a historic cemetery. In total, there are a little more than 3 miles of trails on property, but if you are feeling more adventurous, you'll be happy to hear that our trails directly connect with our neighboring Foxhaven trails and also the Ragged Mountain trail system which tacks an additional 5 miles around a beautiful lake lined with local wood carvings.
Although our hotel and Sports Club are currently closed due to the recommendations of our state government, our trails are still open and the rolling terrain is an excellent way to get your heart rate up. All trails are intermediate in level and are predominantly laid out in an out-and-back format. If you're ready to start hiking... Download the Trail Map! View Ragged Mountain Map MM

For most, a bench is for resting, but not for Emily Anne. Take a hike with her and you'll get an extra workout!
Boar's Head Wine
Coming Soon! Crafted exclusively for our luxury resort, Boar’s Head Resort's Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are a tribute to The Mill Room, where fine wine and dining go hand in hand. Handcrafted in Virginia by Barboursville Vineyards with an old world tradition, these wines will complement our celebration-worthy cuisine that evokes this region. Our Boar's Head Resort Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic old-world-style red wine aged in white oak barrels that exhibits a fragrant bouquet of ripe red fruit and spices with a dry satisfying finish. Our Chardonnay is a dry white wine that is crisp and fragrant with no oak aging that reveals a taste of the grape, a taste of the sun and the climate of Barboursville.
