New Sire Groups

CDI Innovator is new to the sire lineup this year. His sons are already standing out in the pens, and we are excited to see how they continue to develop! They are long spined, nice necked, sure footed, and well balanced on paper without giving up any performance across the scale.

Quality Counts...Value Matters

In today’s world of high priced everything, it’s important that we consider how far we can make our dollars go, not only in our everyday purchases, but also when we are investing in livestock. Why not make your hard earned dollars go a little further by purchasing a bull from Powerline? We offer value without sacrificing quality.

Powerweight 488 LCDR Favor 149F is a complete outcross to this program. He is sired by LDCR Witness and out of the prolific WS Miss Sugar C4 cow. Look to his sons to not only add fresh genetics, but also performance to their offspring. This young sire offers 6 EPDs in the top 1% of the breed including weaning, yearling, carcass weight and TI. Remember this guy? He sold on the January 2020 sale, and several of our multipliers AI’d to him that year. He ran with a group of 25 cows that spring and settled them all! His first progeny will be featured during the 2022 sale season! He stamps them with body, rib shape, and structural integrity. What is PAP Testing?

Meet the Multiplier

Have you ever wondered what the big deal is when it comes to this business of PAP scores? PAP stands for pulmonary arterial pressure, which is basically the measure of pulmonary blood flow resistance. Poor blood flow can lead to what is commonly referred to as brisket disease or high mountain disease, where fluid builds up in the tissue around the brisket. This occurance puts too much pressure on the heart, making it dificult to get blood circulated to other parts of the animal’s body, and it can ultimately lead to death if the animal is not moved to lower elevation.

There are not very many places in this country where you can travel and meet someone in the cattle business who does not know JD Anderson. Anyone who knows JD, knows he never misses lunch, is mindful of spending money, and loves all segments of the business. JD has been selling bulls for close to 40 years now, and he was marketing hybrid cattle before it was cool and trendy. JD saw the value they brought to the table in both the pasture setting as well as the feed yard, and he has utilized that balance to bring Powerline Genetics to the commercial cattleman.

PAP scores are measured in millimetre of mercury (mmHg) which is a unit of pressure. Normal PAP scores are in the range of 34-44 mmHg. If you have ever glanced through our Utah catalog, you would have noticed that we only market bulls to that region with PAP scores of 45 or less. Over the years, key factors affecting PAP scores have been identified as genetics, weather, health, elevation of the testing as well as breed. The breed associations have been tracking these scores for several years now, and are in the process of developing and or improving the PAP EPD within their own systems.

JD and his wife Linda have three children, Miranda (Mike), Blake (Indy), Kaylee (Chris) and three grandsons, Miles, Marshall and Kallan. Together, JD and Linda own and operate Grazers Inc which is one of the leading sources of bulls for the Powerline program. They run both a spring and fall calving herd, while retaining their own heifers and finishing their feeder cattle at the yard in Arapahoe. Year after year, they continue to see their cattle generate premiums through the Power Genetics grid. Clint Robinson has been working for JD & Linda for the past three years and assists with both Grazers day to day operations and special tasks with Powerline.

Powerline has been marketing PAP tested bulls for a number of years now, and we are constantly learning more about the cattle that come through the program. We have identified sire groups that score well, such as the Big Easy cattle as well the higher percent Simmental bulls. We will try some new sires this year as we continue to progress and grow. Our bulls are shipped to Laramie, WY in early fall, where they are accomidated to the 7,200 feet environment for approximately 6 weeks prior to testing. Once the PAP testing is complete, the bulls return to Arapahoe where they are developed until sale day in March. Below is the reference table included in our catalogs for the mountain region sales. The PLG Bull Expectation

• We want conveniently born live calves with size and vigor to get them through the toughest of conditions. • We expect consistent growth and performance to maximize weaned potential. • We seek level maturity to add longevity as calves move into Low Risk feeding environments Moderate • We expect carcass traits that lead to premium opportunity to Risk those who want to take them to harvest. High Risk • We’re not chasing numbers, we’re not following association popularity trends
