4 Lessons You Can Learn From Mike Trout BOB KLEIN

Whether you love baseball or not, you can learn something from the center fielder for the Los Angeles Angels, Mike Trout.  By the age of 24, Trout has won the league Most Valuable Player (MVP) twice. For six seasons, Trout finished in the top two in MVP voting. This feat is quite impressive considering that no other players have accomplished this in major league history. There is no mistake to why Trout has been considered for MVP multiple times. As someone who is a hard worker with a good attitude, Trout is a shining example of a true MVP. Regardless of what industry you are in, we can all learn valuable lessons from Trout.

1. Work Harder to Get Better

Trout is an impressive player on the field. However, like anyone he has his flaws. In Trout’s first season in the majors, critics stated that Trout’s throwing arm was not the best. Trout took this piece of criticism to heart and worked on improving his arm and did so in just one season. By his second season, he won his first MVP award.

2. Never Take a Pitch-Off

Mike Scioscia, Trout’s manager, once stated that Trout never takes a single pitch off or rather he doesn’t throw in the towel when the going gets tough. Despite the score of a game, how good the opposing team is or how many people are in the stands, Trout focuses on the game and doesn’t give up.

3. Move Past Failure and Learn From it

In one game, Trout struck out two times in a row against a pitcher. Striking out twice can be incredibly frustrating for any player. After striking out for the second time, Trout could have come back to the dugout in a rage. Instead, Trout took a more positive approach by saying, “I’ve figured it out now. I got him next time.” Failure is a big part of baseball and even everyday life. You are bound to fail, but that’s just part of the game. The people who succeed are those who learn from the failure rather than dwelling on it.

4. Proper Perspective on his Talent

Mike Trout has had his share of victories. Even with a long list of achievements, Trout doesn’t become full of himself either on and off the field. He realizes and acknowledges that despite his success, he is not bigger than the game. Although others may name Trout as one the “greatest players on the planet,” he realizes that baseball is a team sport and remains positive despite the outcome of the game.
