Tide - /t d/ noun A powerful surge of feeling or trend of events Meishi Street which has existed as the heart of old Beijing Town for ages, is still playing a significant role nowadays. It is one of the oldest residential area of Beijing, and also sit in the centre of the major tourist spot. For the extreme high flow of residents and tourists, Meishi street is suffering due to its poor condition and congestion. The concept of tide is inspired by the alternate rising and falling of the sea at different times. Street condition is an ever-changing aspect. Being familiar with its change in time and space, the proposal respond to this characteristic. The idea is to eliminate the conflicts between residence and the tourists, daytime and night, weekdays and holidays. The adjustable system, which involves with the changes of Meishi Street into the development and long-term maintenance. Street tide maximizes the offerings to its demands at the needed times.

Meishijie is a traditional street which located in the old district of Beijing. Government changed it to a main one-way street to afford a half traffic of Qianmen Street in 2005. There are many courtyard and histirical building on the street, but it is crowded and disordered due to the overmixing flowrate. The north part with many traditional stores is opened for tourists, so tourits use the northen public spaces in dayime, and residents prefer them in evening. However the south part is residential area. There are many courtyard and historical building on the street. Overmixed funtions result in a mass transportation and poor public enviornment for residents and tourists.

ADJUSTABLE TRAFFIC LANES TO BEST CIRCULATE VEHICLES AND TO BEST SERVE PEOPLE DURING DIFFERENT T There is an obvious tidal phenomenon of visitors flowerate from day time to evening, especially in vacantions. In VARIABLE-LANE area, the bus lane near the pavement would be given to pedestrain during the high visitors flowrate time. Meanwhile, it can be used for bus transit on weekdays. With the developing of public transpotation, we will build a ecological and pedestrain-friendly street space, decrease the private cars and build dynamic space for pedestrain.

After the fast-paced growth of media industry and population boom, the site, one of the urban fringe clusters in Beijing entered its period of stagnation and left lots of unsolved problems. The abandoned gear factory as the core of the site is essential to the redevelopment of this marginal region. In order to boost regional industries, such as rejuvenation of media companies, construction of service facilities and leisure center to serving the local people, we built up a model of recovery and regional development based on case studies. This work is an experimental solution of a factory revitalization in the urban fringe cluster. The proposal of an industry park can be a incubator to affect regional economy profoundly and to enhance interactions.

With the different activities and circulation occured in the same place, they are organized in different logic. Public space create a wealthier, comfortable leisure space for surrounding citizens. As semi-level public space, the exhibition hall and art gallery form a kind of transition from the liner square to sharing office space that indicate the totally public and private respectively. Private space used for co-work. In this case, a new form, or type, is created. For details, the public square, cinema, snack street, pub and supermarket would play the role of recreational public space for local residents.

Elders as the majority of local population in this area are facing the challenges of poor health care, the lack of entertainment activities and the bad living conditions. Through primary research and assessment, two conceptual ideas have been advocated for the proposal of its new community development. The first one is to introducing a healthy activity which can be easily done by elders. Horticulture is considered because of being accessible, affordable, applicable and selfsufficient to elders and the local communities. The other is an administrative structure, which is supervised by the local committees, to not only provide initial financial supports and infrastructure inputs, but also to regulate and organise the system for a viable elder community on a long-term basis. Healing Community brings “ZONING concept into the proposal. By dividing the neighborhoods into small adminitrative zones, new developed facilities and public spaces will efficiently serve elders within a resonable size of area. Different zones are indepedent to running their integrated systems, yet interact and support each others closely.

By adjusting th structure of the house and street, the space in the courtyard and the rooftop space could be utilized. Elders can plant can plant vegetations and crops in these areas. Meawhile, the agriculture becomes an asset for space creation and space diversity. We have many types water collection systems that suitable for different site and soil condition. We utilize diverse vegetation from crops which forms a strong root system, and we also introduce drainage system, water tanks and water retention ponds in the clay to collect the rain water which filtrate from the vegetation layer during mild days, and guide the direction to the garden or farmland. All the systems would work together.
