TESTIMONIALS:
Words from our loyal advertising partners
“We have been in business in Boca for over 40 years and fortunately have built a very extensive clientele. However, when our ad appears in The Boca Raton Observer, we usually get an immediate response, often resulting in the acquisition of a new client. The Observer has become an important contributing factor to our continuing success.”
“After running advertisements in numerous magazines in Boca Raton, Delray Beach and the surrounding areas and having limited success, we were hesitant to try another magazine. We were pleasantly surprised that, shortly after our first issue ran, we received a lot of customer feedback and phone calls from potential customers. As an added benefit, we know we have the production flexibility to change our ads up to a few days before they go to press. We are happy with The Boca Raton Observer and would recommend them.”

“I was very reluctant to consider advertising as a viable vehicle for my type of business, particularly magazines. I agreed to try The Boca Raton Observer and I am amazed by the results. Not only do I receive a measurable response to my ads, but also receive qualified leads. Almost every response has been converted to a new client. I am definitely a believer now!”

OR YEARS, PEOPLE FLOCKED TO THE LAS VEGAS STRIP TO GAMBLE. SPENDING ALL DAY AT THE BLACKJACK TABLE ANXIOUSLY HOPING TO HIT 21 WAS A FAVORITE PASTIME FOR TOURISTS. BUT, NOWADAYS, TRAVELERS ARE UPPING THE ANTE AND HEADING TO SIN CITY TO SIT AT A DIFFERENT TABLE: THE DINNER TABLE.
In 2015, nearly 43 million people visited Las Vegas. Centered on the Strip with all of its glitz and glamour, the city lures the masses by offering over-the-top entertainment, luxurious hotel suites, plenty of gaming and lots of mouthwatering food. Within the last decade, Las Vegas has become one of the world’s top culinary destinations. The area has redefined the food and beverage experience, now providing an extensive collection of celebrity chefs, worldclass restaurants and menus inspired by cultures around the globe. “Las Vegas is the culinary mecca for chefs and gourmands,” says

CELEBRITY CHEFS HAVE TRANSFORMED LAS VEGAS INTO AN INTERNATIONAL CULINARY MECCA
Cathy Tull, senior vice president of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “These culinary masterminds have not only put Las Vegas on the map but have made Las Vegas a leader in the culinary scene.” No matter what you have a taste for, you’re guaranteed a great time. And, with the rise of culinary events like the Las Vegas Food & Wine Festival and Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appétit, gourmands are flocking to VIP experiences coupled with elevated ways to please their palates. “Guests are drawn to Vegas Uncork’d for its long history of

creating exclusive and intimate experiences with world-class celebrity chefs, and, this year, attendees can expect a lavish event they won’t soon forget,” Tull says. But the tables have indeed turned. Just 10 years ago, crowds waited in long lines to satisfy their cravings for the best all-you-can-eat buffets in town. Now, it’s all about which celebrity chef is preparing your meal and how you can secure a restaurant reservation. “Las Vegas has one of the most comprehensive collections of celebrity chefs, with restaurants from some of the most recognizable culinary figures in popular culture, such as Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck, Emeril Lagasse and more,” Tull says. “These chefs not only solidify Las Vegas as a culinary destination but give credibility and an appeal to visitors seeking exceptional experiences.”

During her speech, Shields said that she is no stranger to the island: “In this room in Palm Beach, I get a lot of references to my early modeling days and when I came here as a kid. I have been around forever. My connection to Palm Beach is very long. Very deep roots. My stepmom and dad lived here for 30 years. My dad passed away three weeks before [her daughter] Rowan was born.” Her stepmother owned the Johnnie Browns boutique on Worth Avenue, and her father, Frank – a businessman who walked out on his family when Brooke was 5 months old and who died of prostate cancer in 2003 – operated a coffee shop in town. “I love Palm Beach,” she said. “We all want to go back to where our roots are, and mine are here from the time I lived with my dad and stepmom. Palm Beach as a whole is my second home.” Shields was even married, for the second time, in Palm Beach to “Spin City” television writer/producer Chris

ew actors, and even fewer models, sustain a career and claim the spotlight from infancy through middle age: Brooke Shields is one. “I have been around for many years in certain manifestations of people’s lives. People feel like they know me well,” she said at a recent event. The actress, now 51, got her first break at 11 months when she became the Ivory Snow Baby. “What was healthy about starting young is that it was a way of life,” she said. “I went to regular schools and then to college at Princeton. I didn’t leave to go to LA. I only did movies in the summers during my vacations.” In February, she was the keynote speaker at the Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope’s inaugural Shop The Day Away Luncheon at The Breakers Palm Beach. HARRY CONNICK JR.

From musician to father to philanthropist and more, Harry Connick Jr. has long been a man who wears many hats. These days, he’s donning all of them at once. Thanks to his new daytime show, “Harry” (which airs weekdays at 10 a.m. on Fox29), Connick, 49, is expanding on his already-impressive set of entertaining skills. Any given episode, for example, might include him interviewing an A-list celebrity, performing a show-stopping tune with his house band, celebrating an unsung hero, stopping by the set of a hit TV series or taking to the streets to interact with fans. As the host himself admits, he doesn’t always know what the day will bring – which couldn’t delight him more. “I’m excited about showing up to work every day and doing things I didn’t think I’d be doing a couple of hours beforehand,” he explains. “There are going to be a lot of surprises. I’m looking forward to celebrating everyday people and having my band there. I’m just really excited for all that.” And, while the pressure to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience five days a week sounds intimidating,

If you haven’t tried a bowl yet, what are you waiting for? This popular new trend packs fresh, nutrient-rich food into an easy-to-eat portion that offers high flavor, guiltless satisfaction and an energy boost. All the rage worldwide, bowl culture is part of the fast-casual dining scene flourishing in South Florida. For the uninitiated, the most common bowl is a smoothie that you eat with a spoon. At the forefront of this trend is the often-mispronounced açai (ah-sigh-e) berry. The super fruit is native to Brazil, grows on palm trees and looks like a mashup of a grape and a blueberry. Once picked, it is highly perishable, so açai fruit is soaked, separated from its seed and processed as frozen pulp for immediate export. The açai bowl, which uses frozen açai pulp as a base, comprises layers that can include banana slices, blueberries or some combination of fruit; a garnish, like granola; and a topping, which could be coconut flakes or honey. While its dark indigo color is eyecatching, what’s most attractive about 82
the açai berry is its health potential. It has twice the antioxidants of blueberries and also contains omega fats, amino acids, protein, fiber, iron, potassium, phosphorus, calcium and other phytonutrients. These berries can strengthen immunity, boost energy levels, assist with weight loss, slow the aging process and improve digestion. So how did this purple-hued pickme-up make its way from Brazil into mainstream foodie culture? Back in the 1970s, frozen açai pulp was sold from the Amazon to northern Brazilian cities, but it was martial artist Carlos Gracie, the legendary founder of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, who is largely credited with putting it on the map. When he established his own branded diet – the Gracie Diet – in part to help the performance of his fighters, the centerpiece was the açai bowl. Brazilian surfers, fitness gurus, volleyball players and other athletes jumped on the açai bandwagon, and the superfood developed a cult following in Southern California and Hawaii by the early 2000s. Today, it’s sold not only as frozen pulp but as a juice or a dried powder.

Connick can barely contain his enthusiasm. “I’m not really the nervous type,” he notes. “I’m excited. We’re all just really fired up.” He continues: “The show is different in that it’s not typical. How I start on one day may be different from how I start the next. I’m the host and the bandleader, and I can play on a whim without a prepared plan.” The best part? “Everyone in the audience knows the show will be custom-made for them,” he says. The first episode brought out the big guns, with his “Hope Floats” co-star Sandra Bullock serving as his inaugural guest. “Amazing,” Connick says of the Oscar-winning actress. “She’s an incredible woman, a special lady and a good friend.” Bullock hasn’t been the only former colleague to drop by. On a recent episode, Connick’s “Will & Grace” paramour Debra Messing appeared, jokingly begging fans not to confuse the real-life Connick with the fictional Dr. Leo Markus, who cheated on wife Grace.

Sheres attributes much of her success to experience and anticipating her clients’ needs, having a dedicated team and working with the world’s largest luxury brand, Coldwell Banker/PREVIEWS.
