The mission then was to breakdown the barriers that existed between East and West, with the goal of building bridges and relationships that would lead to peace.

The people were amazing wherever we traveled. The yearning for freedom was present in every community. The love for family and pride in country was also on full display. The wise long view and fierce strength provided a glimpse into the core of people who have weathered the hardest of times. Hope for the future filled the hearts of so many.

A few years later the impossible happened with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the liberation sought by generations was at hand.

Today, an old, destructive and toxic energy has risen in an attempt to return to an old order of repression and control. We know what trauma looks like when visited by one on another, when trauma is waged by one community on another and in this case, when trauma is delivered with global impact. All trauma results in waves that move beyond the limitations of time and wound generations for generations.

And yet, the wise long view tells us freedom and liberty will win and people will rise to defeat the outdated, corrupt and evil.
