Typical Floor Plan
This high rise proposal (100 Stories / Height 1558 ft.) aims to maximize the wind flow around its column shaped form. Directing lateral wind loads seamlessly around the building, while capturing the energy that is produced by these wind forces. The tower is supported by a large dia-grid structure joined together by prefabricated steel nodes. Openings in each floor plate, spiral round the building, acting as “chimneys, caring light and ventilation threw the building. A double skin facade is used, leaving room for vertical axis turbine deflector-units that open and close depending on the direction of the wind.

Adaptive Use is the reutilization of a building or structure for a new function. It is the imaginative effort of bringing a building back to life by changing its use.

Existing Exterior Walls & New Columns
New Program Existing Exterior Walls
The question was: how can we reuse, but make new this historical industrial landmark? By connecting with local businesses in the Kinzie Industrial Corridor, academic institutions, and receiving funding from the U.S government to build an advanced manufacturing facility in Chicago, the concept was born. The goal being to adapt this building, while limiting C02 emission, creating jobs, and new industry. Therefore, establishing the “Green Industry Market was the natural evolution after analyzing all of the systems and scales at play.

Bathhouse: Concrete Project Professor Jeffery Klymson Year Spring 2013 Location Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL Project
The images on this page show the final model formwork, ceiling plan, and roof plan. The model was made from concrete. The main objective of the project was to create particular sound sensory experiences for each bath typology. Using different surface shapes, the sound reflections and vibrations are specific to the temperature and therapeutic qualities of each pool. HOT = compact, COLD = open, WARM = transitional.

...combing technology with aquaponics, sustainability with agriculture, and economic viability with honesty.
04_9601 Project CBD Studio Professor Eva Kultermann Year Fall 2014 Location 9601
S Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL
The goal of 9601 was to create a community oriented destination spot where anyone is welcome to learn, make, grow... This community supported pocket is broken up into three organizational categories: community, education and agriculture.
This project was a collaborative effort among three group members. My contribution being: researching urban agriculture, adapting the existing building, aquaponics techniques, energy systems, detailing, project management, and designing a vertical element to be used for indoor gardening and education. The vertical greenhouse that resulted, provides an ideal environment for showcasing, by floor, specific indoor gardening techniques.
