Now that the coronavirus has more people than ever working from home, we thought we would share a few tips to help you stay focused and be productive! HAVE A DESIGNATED WORK SPACE You may not have the space in your home to designate an entire room to a home office, however it is important to find a spot where you do your work each day. Try to make this space feel as separate as possible. Not having a separate space dedicated to work activities makes is harder to separate your work from your personal time. The more these lines blur, the more your work/life balance will suffer. Even if you are working at a table in your home that is used for other purposes, like the kitchen table, make sure to pack up and put away your work at the end of each day so you can “leave” your workspace. GET DRESSED It may be tempting to stay in your pajamas all day, every day… but don’t! Getting up, getting dressed, fixing your hair, etc. are all signals to your brain that you are about to be productive. You don’t have to put on a suit and tie, but putting on clothing that you could leave your house in will help you to feel a bit more normal in this time of being cut off from the rest of the world. Besides, there is a good chance someone will see you, there are LOTS of video conferences happening these days! MAKE A SCHEDULE This is easier said than done, especially if you are at home with your spouse or children, but the more of a work schedule you are able to abide by, the more productive you will be! So decide when to start and end your workday, make lists of tasks to accomplish for each day, have a dedicated lunch time and schedule in some breaks. Share this schedule with your family so they know that just because you are working remotely doesn’t mean you are free all time. REACH OUT If working remotely is new for you, chances are it may be a bit of a transition. Staying connected to co-workers through phone calls emails, text messages and video conferences can help you avoid feeling isolated. Need help with something? Don’t hesitate to reach out to those that you normally would.
