Most basic health insurance policies will have this coverage. If you are bringing your own health insurance from your home country or if you have an insurance policy that you/your home institution bought outside of Turkey you should show written certification in Turkish that your coverage is sufficient. This document is required for your residence permit application. Currently there is only one way to get this certification:
18
1. If your insurance company has a local branch/agent operating in Turkey, they can provide you the certification letter in Turkish. Please check before coming to Turkey whether this applies to you. The certification should have the following statement: "İşbu poliçe 6/6/2014 tarih ve 9 sayılı İkamet İzni Taleplerinde Yaptırılacak Özel Sağlık Sigortalarına İlişkin Genelge'de belirlenen asgari teminat yapısını kapsamaktadır." which basically states that your insurance policy is in compliance with the minimal requirements of the mandate for obtaining residence permits in Turkey. If you cannot provide this certification you will need to buy health insurance while in Turkey from an insurance company that operates in Turkey and sells health insurance policies for non-Turkish citizens. Here is a list of insurance companies operating in Turkey.
9.2. Governmental Health Insurance (GSS) All international students can be insured by the Social Security Institution of Turkey according to law no #6111. If you prefer to get a governmental health insurance, registering for the health insurance in 3 steps:
After online registration period ends, get your student identification letter from the Registrar’s Office.
Go to Social Security Office ( SGK in Turkish), Findikli branch with your student identification letter and passport; then apply for the governmental health insurance for students.
A couple of days later, go to TC Ziraat Bank branch and present your foreign ID number for the activation process of your insurance.
Please feel free to contact International Relations Office for your further questions.
