Teekeela Louise Burris, affectionately known as “Teeky”, 81, died peacefully, yet unexpectedly, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO, on March 4th, 2020 at 12:16 p.m. Teeky was born on November 25th , 1938, in Trenton, MO, to parents Theda and Webster Scott. She had one sister, Linda, and a younger brother, Marty, who she loved very much. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1956. She lived in California until her husband's retirement from the USMC. She returned to Joplin where she was a proud, longtime resident. Teeky married James “Jim” Burris on April 11th , 1957. They were married until his death on January 25th, 1994. Together they had four daughters, Jamey, Linda, Mary “Lisa” and Virgina “Ginny”. Her faith was everything to her. She was one of the first members of Christ's Community United Methodist Church, and lovingly practiced and grew in her faith there for 30 years. She loved her church family and they loved her. She was involved in as many activities as she could be and she always welcomed her church family with a warm hug and smile. She loved being part of the Jewels of d'nial, a women's group at the church. She was an avid reader, nearly a book a day, and enjoyed participating in the activities at the local library. She worked for American Greeting Card Company, Tri-State Motor Transit, the United States Census, as well as several positions with her beloved church. Teeky was a fun loving woman who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She taught them resilience, love and faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Linda; husband, Jim; and daughter, Lisa. She has six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who loved her very much and will miss her dearly. A celebration of her life will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Christ's Community United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Monday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made in her name to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.

Donna Holland
Donna Sue (Knight) Holland died February 18th, 2020, at Forsyth Care Center in Forsyth, MO. She resided in Joplin, MO, for 41 years, until she moved to Ravenwood Assisted Living in Springfield in late 2018. She lived a full and contented 83 years. Donna was born in the Missouri “Bootheel” on December 9th, 1936, in the small town of Risco, MO, to parents Homer and Dorothy (Huffman) Knight. She graduated from Joplin Senior High School in 1955, where she was a member of the orchestra playing violin and was also a proud member of the Drum Corps. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Saint Louis and worked for Famous-Barr, where she met her future husband, George Kenneth (Ken) Holland. They married on March 10th, 1956. They were married for 63 years and had three children. While living in and around Saint Louis, and later northern Indiana, her full-time work for many years was maintaining her household and raising her children. In 1973, she started working for Sears and Roebuck in La Porte, Indiana. Returning with her family to Joplin in 1977, Donna worked as a sales associate at Sears. She retired in 1992. Donna enjoyed caring for her family, entertaining, and fishing with her friends. She also took pleasure in meeting regularly with her retired colleagues from Sears and planning events and reunions with her high school classmates. She spent her final years as a dedicated fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals, rarely missing a game. Donna is survived by her daughter, Karen; sons, Kevin and Douglas; as well as three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister and a granddaughter. A small reception will be held for family and friends at a future date. Mrs. Shelly Renee Sullivan-Wooldridge, 55, of Webb City, MO, departed this life on Wednesday morning, March 11th, 2020, surrounded by family. Shelly entered this life on June 29, 1964, in Phoenix, AZ, born to the union of Clarence and Carolyn (Goade) McGinnis. She was raised in Joplin, MO and was a graduate of Memorial High School. She was secretary at Webb City Housing Authority, a career she dearly loved for 34 years, making long lasting friendships with many of her tenants. She along with her husband, Jack, were Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holders, never missing a game for over 20 years. They loved entertaining and having their friends and family over. She enjoyed putting her green thumb to use in her garden, flea markets, garage sales and auctions. Shelly leaves behind her contagious laugh, smile and beautiful memories with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her father; and her husband, Jack Wooldridge, on September 21, 2018. Shelly is survived by her daughter, Zoe (Alex) Lambert, of Galena, KS; her mother, Carolyn Johnson, of Duenweg, MO; a brother, Zach (Kara) Johnson, of Frisco, TX; and two nieces, Sofie and Emma. Graveside funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, in Joplin, with Pastor Randy Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-7 p.m. in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, in Joplin. Peggy Sparlin-Grissom, passed away on March 6, 2020, at Communities of Wildwood. She was born in Miami, OK, on August 1, 1937, to James Sparlin and Bessie (VanGundy) Sparlin. She graduated from Miami High School in 1957. Peggy married Vernon Grissom on August 2, 2015. She was employed with Eagle-Picher Couples Division for 24 years. She was a victim of the Joplin tornado. Peggy is survived by her husband, Vernon Grissom, of the home; one brother, James F. Sparlin and wife, Sharon, of Joplin, MO; one niece, Kesha McCorkell (Brad), of Overland Park, KS. She also had two great-nieces, Darion McCorkell, of Springfield, MO, and Saylor McCorkell, of Overland Park, KS. No immediate services are planned.

Zane Livengood, 89, of Joplin, MO, passed away March 7, 2020, after a courageous battle with COPD. He was the youngest child born to Leo and Elsie Livengood on Oct. 23, 1930. He is pre-deceased by three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his only child, Sue Livengood (Shannon Edwards), of Mesa, AZ, also, nieces and nephews. Zane was a very proud Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War as a Ground Control Specialist (Radar Unit). After an Honorable Discharge, Zane began working at IBM in 1955. He enjoyed numerous promotions due to his leadership, integrity and fairness. He retired as an Executive after 30+ years. During his retirement, he worked part-time as a Source Quality Inspector for various local companies and at the MO Welcome Center. Zane's leisure time was spent traveling, taking cruises, restoring old John Deere tractors, giving tours at Precious Moments and socializing with friends. Zane was a kind and gentle man who will be greatly missed by family and friends. Per his wishes, he requested no funeral or flowers. Visitation will be held at Mason-Woodard on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Final internment will be in the family plot, Morrill, KS. Breathe easy Dad. You are forever loved.

Sarah Arletta Probert, 99, of Jasper, Missouri, passed away February 29, 2020, at St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage, Missouri. Sarah was born December 3, 1920, in Barton County, Missouri, to Clarence and Hattie (Gill) Murphey. She had worked as a cashier for A&P grocery store as a young woman and became a homemaker after marriage. Sarah was a member of the Jasper Christian Church. Sarah was united in marriage to Lester Probert on March 27, 1954, at Seneca, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2006. Survivors include two sons, Steven Probert and wife, Debra, and Doug Probert and wife, Kelly, both of Jasper, Missouri; a special friend, Tammy Wingo; two step-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Carrol Murphey, and three sisters, Loretta Sikes, Helen Rice and Leora VanBummel. Emmett F. Southard, age 86, of Joplin, MO, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020. He was born April 27, 1933, in Prosperity, MO, to Forrest and Pauline (Jeans) Southard. Emmett retired from Atlas Powder. He was a hardworking man who provided for his family and cared for them deeply. He served in the United States Army. He married Valeria Greninger on December 5, 1955. She survives. Emmett is also survived by two sons, Dewayne “Buck” Southard and wife, Brenda, Joplin, Kevin Southard and wife, Roxy, Joplin; one daughter, Kelli Funderburk and husband, Mark, Ozark, MO; six grandchildren, Justin Southard, Brian Southard, Kolby Southard, all of Joplin, Kelsy Bentley, Jasper, MO, Stephanie Funderburk, state of Colorado, Bethanie Funderburk, state of Montana; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl, Southard; as well as extended family and friends. Emmett was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John Southard, Don Southard, Bob Southard, Roy Southard; and three sisters, Betty Symack, Shirley Gibbs and Mary Lou Southard. Celebrating a beautiful life of service to God, Wanda Fay Calvin, 84, went to her forever home on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Wanda was preceded in death by her father, Oscar T. Mapes; mother, Gertie M. Mapes; her brother, William Mapes; and her sisters, Mary Broadwater, Lillie Kolkmeyer, and twin sister, Dorothy Kern. Also preceding her in death was her son, Mark Calvin; grandchildren, Amy Ruth and Jason Olyaie; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Walker and Kalob McBride Eldridge. She leaves three children, Belinda McBride (Gene), Cheryl Calvin, and Pamela Fanning (Tim), along with four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, with another on the way. She also leaves her sister and best friend, Grace (Gene) Day. Wanda enjoyed her career working with the autistic and mentally and physically disabled at the Joplin Workshop before retiring. Everyone who met her experienced her sweetness, kindness and her deep love for her family. Elizabeth M. “Liza” Coolidge (nee Klein) was given the gift of life on January 23, 1954 and on March 11, 2020 she reluctantly gave it back. It was hard for her to leave her son, Adam, his wife and children. Adam and Liza always looked after each other and she held on until he assured her that he would be okay if she had to go. She is at peace. Whatever her role, Mom, Whammy, Gramoo, Sis, family or friend, Liza loved everyone unconditionally, overlooking our shortcomings and inadequacies. Everyone who knew her was blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Liza during her 66 years about kinesiology, alkaline water, mold remediation and having a balanced life. Liza is survived by her son, Adam (Melissa) Coolidge, and four beloved grandchildren, Scarlett (8), Carter (6), Colton (4) and Layla (2); a sister, Mary Klein, of Kansas City, MO; a stepson Chad (Heidi), of Vermilion, OH; and stepdaughter, Rian Lyday (Keith), of Freeport, FL. She is also survived by three step-grandchildren, Mackenna, Kobe and Arabella; a niece, Kara Klein; a cousin, Tricia Murphy Shilling; as well as the extended Coolidge clan. Violet “Nadine” Hilderbrand, 98, of Columbus, KS, left her earthly life and entered into heaven on March 24, 2020 at her home. She was born December 29, 1921, in Faulkner, KS, the daughter of Neil and Vina (McBride) Turner. She attended grade school at Mt. Pleasant before graduating from Columbus Community High School in 1939 On August 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Cloyed Hilderbrand, in Columbus. Nadine was a homemaker and a farmer until retiring to Columbus. Cloyed and Nadine celebrated 70 years of marriage before he passed away in 2011. Nadine was locally known for her amazing flowers and her beautiful yard. She spent her retired years enjoying her flowers and garden. She was also active in the First Christian Church, where she had been a lifetime member. She will always be remembered for her angel food cakes at the annual bazaar. Survivors include a granddaughter, Leigh McWilliams and her husband, James. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joyce Wilcox; sister, Thelma Kump; and brother, I.C. “Bud” Turner. Helen Loudene Pollock, age 85, Joplin, MO, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020, at Freeman West Hospital. Helen was born June 21, 1934, in Butterfield, MO, daughter of the late Herbert Prier and Bernice Purdom Prier. Victoria Ann (Vicki) Mays, 71 years, of Carl Junction, MO, departed this life on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at Freeman Health System, in Joplin, MO, after a short illness. Vicki, the daughter of Albert Fred and Mary Katherine (Kay) Buckingham, was born on November 6, 1948, in Joplin. After graduating Joplin High School in 1966, Vicki received a degree in music education from MSSU in 1971, and then shared her love of music with thousands of students while employed as an educator in Seattle, Carl Junction, Jasper, Carthage, and finally at Columbus, KS, before she retired in 2009. Knowing that the love of playing in a band doesn't stop at graduation, she became director of the Heartland Community Band and until last year led them in performances around the region. She married Lyle F. Mays on August 2, 1969, in Joplin. She is survived by Lyle, and her children: Jennifer Mays and husband, Scott Cordes, of Kansas City, MO, Brian Mays and wife, Katherine, of Carl Junction, Janet Oishi and husband, Pat, of Seattle, WA, their exchange-student-turned-daughter, Anastasia Roeck and husband, Juergen, Germany; brother, Col. John Buckingham and wife, Victoria, Parker, CO; sister, Liz Burnaw and husband, Ken, Seattle; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Donald Gunther, age 72, of Joplin, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 29, 2020. He was born January 25, 1948, in Albuquerque, NM, to Ray and Mary (Hindman) Gunther. Donald was a Realtor for 40+ years and operated the Gunther Group. He was a member of the Board of Realtors. He had a passion for sailing and tropical climates and airplanes. He is survived by his sister, Karen Hill (Doug); and a nephew, Chris Hill; as well as numerous friends. A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, 5 7 p.m., at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Scott Lee Baker, 63, passed away suddenly at his home on March 22, 2020. He was born October 14th, 1956, in Joplin, MO, the son of Jack and Margie (Burkhart) Baker. Scott graduated from Riverton High School in 1974, where he was an active participant in football, basketball, band, and Math League. Following high school, he graduated from Pittsburg State University, earning a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business. He was married twice, the first being with Kim Watkins, of Lowell, KS, and the second, with Christie Meinhardt, of Kansas City, MO. For 40 years Scott worked in the insurance profession, ultimately becoming an underwriter for American Family Insurance. Of those 40 years, 35 were spent in the Kansas City area until he retired in 2019. He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Baker; his mother, Margie Baker; and a sister, Cathy (Baker) Frazier. He is survived by two sons, Matthew Baker, of Seattle, WA, and James Baker and longtime girlfriend, Tonia Wright, of Joplin; two sisters, Sharon Baker and family friend, Jolene Baker, of Joplin, and Jacque Hartley and husband, Lynn, of Baxter Springs, KS; one niece, Billie Jo (Frazier) Humphrey and husband, Jeremie, of Baxter Springs; two nephews, Drew Hartley, of Joplin, and Brett Hartley, of Baxter Springs. Growing up Scott was a member of the Church of Christ, where he became an avid reader of the Bible, and enjoyed religious discussions with others. Aside from church, he enjoyed traveling across the country and studying varying eras of history. In respect to the current COVID-19 pandemic, no public services are planned at this time. On March 12, 2020, David Eugene Pierce passed away at the age of 82. Dave was born on December 14, 1937, in Harrison, AR, to Marion E. “Dub” and Ernestine “Coulson” Pierce. He moved to Missouri and attended Alba High School where he met and married his lifelong sweetheart, Betty. They were married on December 24, 1957 and had three children. He worked at Tamko Roofing and retired after 32 years. Dave was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He cherished being outdoors. His favorite activities were gardening, fishing, and hunting. He spent indoor time writing stories, drawing pictures, woodworking, and doing jigsaw puzzles. He was known for his infectious smile, sense of humor, and the ability to always care for others ahead of himself. Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Ernestine Pierce; his brothers, John and Pete Pierce. Tammy Lynn Aggus, 55, passed away at Mercy Hospital, in Joplin, MO, at 1:05 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2020. Tammy was born on January 22, 1965, in Bedford, IN, to Robert and Lynn Crane. In 1983, she was a member of Bedford North Lawrence High School's first girls' basketball championship team. While in high school, she worked at Jiffy Treat, which was formative to her work ethic. After graduating from BNLHS in 1983, she went on to graduate from Indiana University in 1986 with a bachelor's in mathematics education. She did extended substitute teaching at Mitchell and Shawswick schools in Indiana. While in Indiana, she was a member of Pinhook Christian Church and Mundell Christian Church. Once in Joplin, she was a member of Blendville Christian Church and College Heights Christian Church. After accepting Jesus at age 20, she decided to go to Ozark Christian College (OCC), in Joplin, in order to learn more about her newfound faith. During her time at OCC, she worked at McDonald's and the Tutoring Company. She graduated from OCC in 1990 with a Bachelor's in Biblical Literature. While at OCC, Tammy began attending Blendville Christian Church, in Joplin, where she met a young door greeter named Spencer Aggus. Time went on, and they began dating in August 1990. Just weeks later, Tammy began teaching math, science and Bible and coaching volleyball and basketball at College Heights Christian School (CHCS). She married Spencer on Nov. 10, 1995, and to this union were born Andrew Bill and Luke Robert. In 1998, she left CHCS to begin raising her family. During this time, Tammy began leading at Quizzing for Christ, counseling and mentoring many of her peers and acting, directing and serving on the board at Stained Glass Theatre Joplin, where she survived the May 2011 tornado. Following the tornado, she founded an organization called Joplin Missouri Christian Athletes through which she has allowed hundreds of youth to participate in volleyball and basketball. She also taught math at various homeschool groups and at Crowder College, in Neosho, Webb City and McDonald County. Tammy was just nine weeks away from earning her master's degree in education from Pittsburg State University. Tammy is survived by her husband, Spencer; her son, Drew (Rylee) Aggus, of Platte City, MO, and her son, Luke Aggus, of the home. She is also survived by her parents, Bob and Lynn Crane, of Bedford; her brother, Robert (Moriah) Crane, of Indianapolis, IN; along with two nieces, a nephew and a great-niece. A visitation service will be held at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11. A celebration of life will be held at College Heights Christian Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 12. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, in Joplin. Darlene Retta (Phipps) Sheridan, of Sheldon, MO, 96, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at her home with family by her side. She was born in Sheldon, MO, on November 30, 1923, to Ezra Phipps and Lila (Sawyer) Phipps. Darlene attended Sheldon grade and high school graduating in 1941. Following high school, she studied for her teaching certificate at Southwest Missouri Teacher's College (now Missouri State University). She then taught in several Vernon County country schools as she continued her education. During WWII, she worked in the Adjutant General's Office in Kansas City. She married Theodore (Ted) Sheridan on June 30, 1945, shortly after his return from the war where he had been a Prisoner of War. They lived in Wichita, KS, for a short time before returning to Sheldon where together they operated Sheridan Farms. Ted passed away on June 13, 1997. Darlene was editor of the Sheldon Enterprise newspaper for several years before it was sold to the Lamar Democrat. She then was a longtime correspondent to both the Lamar Democrat and Nevada Daily Mail newspaper. Darlene was a substitute teacher for many years at Sheldon School. She was involved with many civic organizations including: Vernon County Democrats, 4-H, PTA, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Sheldon Library Board, POW Survivors and Spouses and Sheldon Extension Club, Sheldon Picnic Association, Charter member of Sheldon Housing Corporation and Sheldon Senior Citizens. She was honored as Grand Marshall of both the Sheldon Christmas and Sheldon Picnic parades. She served for many years as Secretary of the Sheldon School Alumni Association and of the Phipps Family Reunion. She was a life-long member of Sheldon Christian Church. Preservation of the original Sheldon High School building was her most recent project. Her children and grandchildren were the focus of her life. Her benevolence, commitment, determination and generosity to her family, friends and community are appreciated by all who knew her. Darlene is survived by her four children, twin daughters, Delila Brown (Bill) Lee's Summit, MO, and Delores Honey (Jim) Carthage, MO; another daughter, Phyllis Sprenkle (Paul), Sheldon, MO; and a son, Lynn Sheridan, of Nevada, MO. Bobby Lee Snodgrass, 87, of Joplin, MO, passed away on March 8, 2020 at Freeman Hospital with his family members by his side after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on April 20, 1932, to Walter and Sarah Snodgrass, at Abbyville, KS. Bobby had attended grade school in Exeter, MO, and graduated as valedictorian from Fairview High School in 1949. After graduating from high school, Bobby joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and was stationed at Riverside, CA. On July 10, 1952, he married the love of his life, Betty Erisman, at Fairview, MO. The two enjoyed sixty-eight years of marriage together. After his discharge from the Air Force, Bobby and Betty made their home in Kansas City, MO. Shortly thereafter, the couple settled in Joplin, where he finished his 38-year career with the United States Post Office, having retired in 1987. During his career, he was an active member of the American Postal Workers Union, having served as president for the state of Missouri. Bobby started his second career after retirement as a field representative for Ozark National Life Insurance. He sold life insurance in the Joplin area for over 20 years. Bobby and Betty loved square and round dancing and were active members of the “Shirts and Skirts” Club in Joplin. They enjoyed traveling and have been in all states except Alaska together. He enjoyed car shows and working on the restoration of antique cars. Bobby was a very kind and loving husband and father to his wife and children. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to others at any time and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his three sons at their shop, Snodgrass Collision Center. Bobby and Betty were members of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Betty, of 68 years; three children, Michael (Mary) Snodgrass, of Webb City, MO, Dana (Nancy) Snodgrass, of Joplin, and Terry (Debbie) Snodgrass, of Joplin; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lester (Vada) Snodgrass, of Idaho. Bobby was preceded in death by one grandson, Johnathan Woods; a brother, Darrell Summers; and three sisters: Nina Milich, Viola Robinson, Lawanda Henbest. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to either the First United Methodist Church of Joplin or to the Joplin Humane Society, in care of the mortuary. Services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, March 13, at the First United Methodist Church of Joplin. Burial will follow at Dice Cemetery near Fairview. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Clovis W. Haubein Clovis W. Haubein, 93, of Lockwood (Meinert), MO, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. He died in the same home where he was born, surrounded by his family. Clovis was born May 29, 1926, to George and Laura Haubein, in Meinert, MO, and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, in Meinert. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his five siblings, Dorothy, Evelyn, Calvin, Robert and Gladys. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Eloise Gassner Haubein; two children, David (Tanya) Haubein and Kenneth (Susan) Haubein; three grandchildren, Ann (Brady) Owen, Jonathan (Emily) Pintado and Kimberly Pintado; and five great-grandchildren. Clovis grew up in Meinert working in the family farm supply business. Upon graduation from Lockwood High School in May 1944, he immediately enlisted in the Army Air Corps Cadet program. He served in the Army Air Corps from June 1944 through December 1945. After the war, he attended Valparaiso University for two years and returned home in 1948 to help his father, who was in failing health, operate the family business. His father died less than one year later. Clovis married Eloise Gassner on August 12, 1950. She immediately became active in the family business. In 1951 they added the Massey Harris farm equipment franchise and the business began to grow at a rapid pace. In addition to the farm supply business, they became active grain farmers starting in 1954. In 1959 Clovis purchased his mother's interest in the family business. Over the years, the business grew to include three bulk fertilizer operations in Lockwood, Pierce City and Jasper, MO. Sons, David and Kenneth, joined the family business after graduating from the University of Missouri in 1974 and 1977 respectively. There was continued growth during that period including additional farm equipment franchises and an irrigation equipment franchise. The family also founded Jasper Popcorn Company in 1983, which evolved over the years into Jasper Foods and subsequently Jasper Products. Clovis was actively involved in leadership positions in many civic and business organizations including: Immanuel Lutheran Church; Concordia Seminary Advisory Board; Dade County Memorial Hospital Board (president); Farmers State Bank Board; North American Equipment Dealers Association (president); Western Farm Equipment Dealers Association (president); Massey-Ferguson Dealer Council; Agrico Fertilizer Dealer Council and the University of Missouri Ag Engineering Advisory Council. Clovis never met a stranger and always had time to talk to just about anyone at any time. He was a true people person. He led by example and was well respected by all. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him. Clovis was given a private Christian burial at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, in Meinert. Due to current restrictions, a Celebration of the Faith and Life of Clovis will be will be held on Saturday, August 8. Loretta May (Coleman) Carpenter, age 79, of Joplin, MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, from complications of Parkinson's disease. Loretta was born in Carthage, MO, on November 1, 1940, to the late J.D. and Mildred (Ayers) Coleman. She graduated from Webb City High School in 1959. Loretta's favorite job in life was creating a warm and loving home for her family. But for 18 years she assisted her husband in operation of their business, Jay's Auto Repair. She enjoyed playing the piano, creating decorative crafts, making quilts and spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was a Christian and had a very strong faith. Her sweet spirit endeared her to so many. Loretta married her soulmate, J.C. Carpenter, on May 19, 1959. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage before Jay's passing on December 22, 2017. Loretta was also preceded in death by three much loved brothers, Larry, Carl, and Robert Coleman. Survivors include her beloved children, Marty Carpenter, Miami, OK, Lori Musser (Kevin), of Joplin, Missy Hext, of Diamond, and Jody Carpenter, of Joplin; adored grandchildren, Jake Musser (Claudia), Korey Scribner (Brooke), Jessie Davis (Trever), Kaci Scribner, and Emmy Carpenter (Jared Smith); treasured great-grandchildren, Tinley, Alex, Natalie, Sunnie, Tucker and Khloe; one cherished brother, Henry Coleman, and sister-in-law, Patty, of Webb City; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and very special friends, Judy Fair, Beverly Dunlap, and Carol Scribner. Loretta's family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Avalon Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion. Dorothy Jean Fager, 98, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at Brewster Place, in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on November 10, 1921, in Joplin, Missouri, the daughter of Charles August and Gladys (Shewmaker) Alford. She grew up in the Joplin area, graduating from Seneca High School and Joplin Business College. She then met Emery E. Fager, a young U. S. Army officer who was stationed at Camp Crowder Missouri. They were married on July 26, 1943, and enjoyed 71 years of marriage. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Overbrook, Kansas, where he joined the Kansas State Bank. She was very active in the Overbrook community and was a member of many social and community organizations including the First United Methodist Church of Overbrook. In 1959, Dorothy and Emery moved to Topeka to begin Commerce State Bank, now CoreFirst Bank & Trust. She was very active in helping the bank at the beginning, filling in wherever she could to help the new bank. As the bank grew, they made a lot of friends in Topeka and the banking industry. They also enjoyed traveling and taking their family to visit various parts of the world. She loved her family and enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on many family occasions and vacations. Dorothy became very involved in the Topeka Country Club Ladies Golf Association. She enjoyed golf and her friendships with the other golfers. A highlight was making a hole-in-one on July 8, 1983. Dorothy and Emery were very supportive of the Topeka community. Later in life, they became active in Habitat for Humanity. They personally worked on a number of houses, getting them ready for new homeowners to enjoy. She always loved a project and especially building and remodeling homes. While they were active in Habitat, over 40 homes were built or renovated. She also was a faithful member of Countryside United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She participated in a number of volunteer activities at the church and loved hearing her daughter play the pipe organ that they donated to the church in 1980. Dorothy and Emery had a wonderful partnership. They believed in sharing their blessings with others. They were a caring and sharing couple. Survivors include her sister, June Harlan; son, Duane Fager (Beth); daughter, Jane Anderson (Bill); five grandchildren: Angela Swift (Tim), Melissa Hiestand (Jeff), Aaron Anderson (Karen), John Fager (Cheryl), Emery Kent Fager (Tamara); 14 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emery; her parents, Charles and Gladys Alford; her brothers, Melvin Alford, Beryl Alford and Charles E. Alford; and her sister, Louise Barnes. A private family service will be at the Mt. Hope Mausoleum. A celebration of life reception for family and friends will be at the Mt. Hope Mausoleum from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2020. Larry (Chip) Hawkins, 38, of Joplin, passed away February 24, 2020, at home. He grew up, went to school and worked many different jobs in the Joplin area. Like his father, who passed away eight months ago, Chip was a mechanic and enjoyed drag racing, too. He leaves behind his mother, Theresa; two brothers, Jonathan, Dustin; one sister, Brittany; many family members and numerous friends.

Betty Harreld
Betty Ann Harreld, of Chetopa KS, passed away March 3, 2020 at the Chetopa Manor Nursing home, in Chetopa, after a long battle with cancer. She was 88 years old. Betty was born on September 3, 1931, in St. Louis MO, to Christian and Helen Simonson. She graduated from Webb City (MO) high school and then received her nursing degree from St. John's Hospital, in Joplin MO. She married Dale Harreld on July 1, 1953, and enjoyed 56 years together before his passing in 2010. Dale and Betty traveled the world over Dale's 20 year service in the Navy, and then eventually settled on their farm near Chetopa. Betty was proud of her career in nursing, where she worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, in Parsons KS, as a staff nurse for 25 years before retirement. She was a member of the VFW Women's Auxilary, in Chetopa, the Eastern Star masonic society, and the Chetopa United Methodist Church. Betty is preceded in death by husband, Dale Harreld; brother, Wayne Simonson; and grandson, Jeremy Shannon. She is survived by brother, Christian Simonson and wife, Mary; daughter, Cindy Shannon and husband, John; son, Duane Harreld and wife, Peggy; son, Curtis Harreld and wife, Lisa; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Betty's love and support for her family were unwavering, and she will be deeply missed and never forgotten. A service and celebration of life will take place at the United Methodist Church, in Chetopa, on Saturday, March 28, at noon. Lunch will be provided after the service at a local venue.
