Antrim Simmentals Complete Dispersal Sale 2024 :: SALE RESULTS

Page 1

Welcome

Welcome to the Antim Simmental dispersal sale, Saturday November 23 at the Neepawa Ag Barn.

I would like to thank all the bidders and buyers from the past sales, your continued support has been very much appreciated. I would also like to thank all the consigners from past sales I have been part of, the most recent being the Ranchers Select Bull Sale, for all their help and encouragement.

My introduction to the Simmental Breed started in Northern Ireland in the 1970’s at the commercial level. When I saw how well they worked commercially I then bought some fullbloods. From my involvement with the Simmentals, I got to know people throughout Ireland and the UK. From my friendship with Finlay and Judy McGowan in Scotland I met Archie and Nonie Londry of AWL Simmentals in the mid 1980’s as they had already sold cattle to Scotland.

At this time, I could see the future of polled cattle, and from then my focus has been on polled fullbloods. My introduction to Canada came when with friends I visited Canada and bought cattle from AWL Simmentals. I emigrated to Canada in 2001 and became involved with Simmentals and have continued to do so until the present time.

At the time I decided to have my dispersal sale I didn’t know that my farm would be sold so quickly, for this reason all sale cattle have to be gone by December 14, 2024. As this is a dispersal sale all sales are final.

Please feel free to visit the farm to view the animal. If you have any questions, you can phone me, or you can contact the knowledgeable Bohrson Marketing Team.

Welcome Bohrson Marketing Services

Welcome to the complete herd dispersal of Antrim Simmentals. Saturday November 23, 2024 will be a day of mixed emotions as we witness a life time of work by one of the greatest people in the industry sell by public auction. John Gillan’s passion for the Simmental breed and the cattle industry is evident after one conversation with him and although he is at the point in his livestock breeding career where the cows will be sold, we know he will still be heavily involved in the business by attending sales and functions across the prairies. His unwavering support of fellow breeders and integrity when conducting business has made John a role model to many and we can say you can absolutely buy out of this sale with the utmost amount of confidence as John has spent the better part of 2.5 decades assembling this herd of cows in Canada.

The Antrim program has always selected top end herd bulls to utilize in their program and the 3 aged bulls on offer are very evident of that. When you get a chance to purchase mature bulls from the Black Gold, Sunny Valley and Labatte programs, you best pay attention. These are proven bulls with progeny on the ground and a lifetime of breeding left in them. They are a combination of sought after genetics and top end phenotype.

The bred heifers on offer are an exciting set and would be a great addition to any program. All polled, all safe in calf to the same sire and all high quality. Just recently, an in dam purchase from an Antrim bred heifer was a $56,000 herdbull to B Bar C in Alberta. The proof is in the pudding on these Antrim bred heifers as they flat out work and the results speak for themselves.

The “working gals” on offer feature cows in age from 2 years old to 14 years old. A variety of ages to select from, if you want some aged cows that “know the drill” on how to raise a calf that feature some older, proven genetics or some young cows with a lifetime of production left in them that feature some of John’s most recent genetic acquisitions. One thing is for sure, John has these cows whipped into shape and are easy to work with and are expected to be unproblematic cows that get the job done. You won’t find this many polled Fullblood cows on offer anywhere in Canada this year.

The calendar year heifer calves show as much future and promise as any section of this deep offering. They are the set of calves John had planned to build around for years to come and would be a wise group to analyze hard as they are very closely related and would be a great compliment to your replacement pen.

The bull calves offer you a chance to get your bull shopping done early before the rush of the spring sale season. Again, every bull calf is polled, closely related with the option to buy multiples to breed some uniformity into your calf crop and have all the cow family and history laid out for you in this catalogue. Some of the best buying you can do on a bull is through dispersals like this as you see first hand what the pedigree has to offer. These bulls are in good shape and you can take them home and develop them how you wish before you turn them out next year.

We really do encourage you to join us in Neepawa, MB for the dispersal of Antrim Simmentals. John’s interesting stories from raising Simmental cattle in Northern Ireland in the 70’s to moving to Canada to breed purebred stock in the early 2000’s truly makes him a knowledgeable stockmen that has seen many trends and waves of cattle come and go across the world, but his dedication to raising sound, functional Simmental cattle has always been at the forefront so we hope you can join us to celebrate it. Be sure to give John a shout to visit about the cattle or any of us from Bohrson Marketing Services. We would be happy to help in selecting your next purchases. We hope to see you sale day.

Best regards,

Bohrson Marketing Team

This polled bull is still in the herd at 6 years of age. He was raised by the Noble family in the Black Gold herd which is known across Canada. His sire Southseven Mr. Adonis 96Z was in the herd for many years, and appears in the background of many herd sires from different herds. CLNO91F matured into a herd bull with size, a good top and hindquarter. His mother has been a good producer in the Black Gold herd. He has worked well in my herd and should do so for several more years.

This homo polled non diluter bull was bought to use on the yearling heifers. Being sired by Champs Bravo who has been around for many years he has proved to be an easy calver on heifers. WLLS41K has worked well on the heifers in my herd. He is an easy keeping bull with good length, wide top, and moves well on his feet and legs. At just 2 years old he is coming into his prime and should work well for his new owners for many years.

This polled non diluter bull was bought to be the main herd sire in my herd, and he has proven to be just that. He has grown into a very good 2-year-old. He is very smooth through his shoulder, has good length and hindquarter, walks well and has a big sound foot under him. Raised in the long-established herd of La Batte Simmentals and comes from a moderate framed, easy keeping cow. In his first calf crop he has shown that he can sire both good bulls and females, and it is very hard to find a bull which can do both. He is a proven bull just coming into his prime, has shown that he can produce, and is polled with a different pedigree. My hope is that he goes to a herd that will make good use of him in the future.
