Dear Colleagues and Friends, On June 12th of this year, my grandfather turned 100 years old (see birthday picture below). In the year leading up to his birthday, Grandpa – with more energy than a person half his age – traveled to Fez, Morocco to buy rugs, to Seville, Spain to see the tomb of Christopher Columbus, and to Germany to visit museums, among other trips. Two weeks ago he took our girls (Geneva age 6 and Aedan Lily age 4, also pictured below) and me on an overnight sailing cruise in Maine and carriage driving through Acadia National Park. I am saying this for several reasons. First, my grandpa is amazing, and I am so proud of him. He is happy every day and never forgets to appreciate all that he has. Second, many of you have gotten to know him over the years and are often kind enough to ask about him. Since he won’t be able to be at the sale this year, I wanted to let you know how well he is and that he is sending all of you his best regards. Finally, a warning: if our combined faith in genetics means anything, I expect to be discussing Simmental cattle with all of you sixty years from now! Welcome to the Living Legacy XI sale on behalf of myself, my husband Robert, my grandfather David Rockefeller, and our wonderful team at Hudson Pines. Please join us at the beautiful Reality Farms for pre-sale viewing of the cattle throughout the day on Saturday, November 14th and again the following morning, and then don’t forget to stay for the sale at 4pm sharp on Sunday the 15th of November. There will be lunch available on Sunday starting at 1pm and snacks and drinks continuing through the sale. For those of you who have joined us in the past, you may notice some patterns in our offering. We sell our best; we build around cow families with proven genetics; we believe in our product and stand behind our cattle; and, we do our best to keep contributing to the advancement of the Simmental breed, just as my grandmother always did. This year we have one of the deepest and most uniform sets of opens to date, breds that will provide a quick turn around while enhancing your program over the longer term, top quality donors, and genetic packages that will lead you into the future. None of this would be possible for my grandfather, Robert and me without the endless dedication, hard work, and smarts of John and Cheryl Walston, Ryan and Megan Haefner, Josh and Angela Chappa, and all the people that work with them. We are endlessly grateful and MOST excited to welcome a new Haefner any day now! If Ryan seems particularly on edge this year, please cut him some slack. It’s only that he finally decided to find out what all this breeding stuff is really about! Most importantly, none of this would be possible without all of you, our friends, colleagues, customers and supporters. Thank you for your interest in our program. And, if you are looking for bulls, bulls, bulls (and more beautiful females) come see us in Billings, Montana on March 21st for our Genetic Legacy Bull Sale. I look forward to being with all of you in Kentucky this November and around the country for the next 60-some years!

Sheza Star...
We could not think of a better way to kick off the Living Legacy XI than with HPF Sheza Star X331. • The Sheza Star family has written chapters for the history of the Simmental breed and will continue to lead us in the right direction during these very progressive times. True to her royal lineage, X331 offers 2535333 attractive phenotype and proven consistency, with the added bonus of a superior EPD profile. We have been heavy in the bull department with some Purebred Simmental Tattoo: X331 Birthdate: 3-7-10 of her first ET offspring but as she starts to bless us with more heifer calves, Act. • This “Expo” daughter is not one we wanted to let go of, but we wanted to prove to you what X331 is capable of. C106 is difficult to fault. She is massive in her rib shape and muscle design, long in her spine and neck extension, and loose and flexible in her skeletal makeup. Add a splash of chrome on her face to help get a little extra attention and what more could you want??? Anyone breeding them knows how difficult it is to make purebreds with this kind of power while maintaining C106’s fault free structure. We urge you not to overlook this female.

• It won’t be every fall that you will get the opportunity to purchase a mother to a National Champion, but you will get that chance in Campbellsburg, KY on November 15th. W94B is the mother to HPF Sazerac Z074, the 2014 Grand Champion Female and barn favorite at the largest Simmental Junior Nationals for the Eggersman Family of Indiana. Z074 also went on to be named Grand Champion Simmental and 3rd Overall Female at the Indiana State Fair, but Z074 is not the only good one W94B has on her cow card. Her first natural calf was a $10,000 sale highlight in The Living Legacy VIII to the Cowdrys and W94B’s third natural calf was a $50,000 selection in The Living Legacy X for Campbell Show Cattle. Doing more than her share to carry on her mother’s Legacy, W94B has already made an impact on the breed at only 6 years of age; just imagine what she can do for you! W94B will have a 45 day old calf at side by sale day and will be open and ready to start cranking out the embryos for her new owner. She has a lifetime average of 11.5 embryos per conventional flush and is extremely consistent.

• Possibly the next to carry the torch for the Sazerac Family, C032 is one that continues to get better every day. This double bred 3/4 blood, snip nosed and star faced female has all the right lines and all the right pieces to not only get her share of love on the tanbark, but also to produce that purebred that can separate themselves from the pack. On John Griswold’s recommendation we sampled the Innocent Man bull that Bill Fulton selected at Werning’s last year, and we’re sure glad we did. Good structured and good looking, his progeny will do positive things for the Simmental breed, starting with HPF Sazerac C032.

• Big bodied, easy keeping, and maternally built are phrases that best describe this little belly dragger. 217C is one that Darrin was telling us about early this spring and when we arrived in Louisburg we quickly sorted her off for the ride back to NY. A much admired member of our Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes string, 217C was noted for her enormous rib and the way it ties into her spine. She handles herself very comfortably on the move and possesses an elegant look, no matter the angle you study her from. Just one more reason why W94B is such a special individual.

We love the soft pastern this female has and her eye catching look. As we start to get more of the Milestones in production you don’t have to look very far in this catalog to see that they are going to work every bit as well in the pasture as they have in the showring.

• If you haven’t realized by now, we have sampled a variety of Dream On free sires on Sazerac with the goal of producing 3/4 blood cows that can be mated to almost any purebred bull on the market today. B333 is exactly what we were aiming for. This female is big bodied, broad topped, and has the ability to produce the purebreds that can continue to take the Simmental breed forward. • 213B is a female that we have placed in, then taken out of the sale set at least a dozen times. You are the lucky winner here because at the end of the day, she got clipped, pictured, and sale tagged. Although we normally try to breed for higher percentage, the United cattle have just been too good to not try him on our preferred donor. A full sister sold last year in the Head of the Class Sale to Fenton Farms for $17,000 and another full sister sold to Ferguson Show Cattle in the LLX for $20,000. We feel 213B is of similar quality. 213B is homo black by pedigree. • Bred 3-27-15 to TNGL Grand Fortune.

Females like 238B remind us how incredibly unfortunate is was to lose Two Step at such a young age.. Analyze the structural integrity, overall balance, and rib shape on this female and there’s not much a breeder would want to change. With her confirmation, pedigree, and overall flexibility, 238B is a female that we are anxious to partner on and even more anxious to get her calved and cranking out embryos. We sampled OBCC KingPin on a few donors because of the flawless structure, depth of body, and doabilty we saw in Shoal Creek’s progeny. Y030 then turned around the next week and “walked the walk” by being named Reserve Grand Champion Female at the North American as a calf. Her mating to Two Step has already been proven with

We would argue that there may be no other purebred cow in the history of the breed that has made an impact quite like 74T. At close to 9 years of age, we have counted almost 20 direct daughters that have hit a public auction ring and averaged over $25,000 per head! The first of the 4 daughters that we are offering on November 15th in The Living Legacy XI is B005. • As Cream Soda doesn’t get any younger, there will be fewer and fewer of her daughters that we will allow to leave Sleepy Hollow. We wanted to offer a variety of genetic lines out of Cream Soda to prove once more exactly what she is capable of, no matter the sire. C008 is sired by Make it Rain, who has and still is siring champions at every level. C008 is an easy keeping, deep sided female with extra forerib and flank. We feel 290C is the power female of the trio with a stout hip, added muscle, and larger bonework than most. If you’re looking for the show heifer, 313C

These homozygous polled United daughters offer a balanced EPD profile along with a genotype that cannot go unnoticed. 255C was a member of Team HPF’s Sweepstakes string and did her share of contributing by winning a very tough January Percentage calf class. • Hold the phone here cowboys... A favorite of the boys in the show barn, C019 can cause whiplash no matter the environment she resides in. Several years ago, we teamed up with Janssen and Guthridge to purchase the pick of the Circle M fall calf crop and with a little help from TL, Sazerac 86Y was our selection. We have no doubt he will remind us of that when he sees C019 and we can’t blame him. C019 offers that rare combination of being big bellied and whistle necked, something hard enough to get in a percentage, let alone a purebred! Although she did not particularly enjoy picture day, we are confident this one will impress even the toughest critics in person.

As if we have not yet offered enough evidence to substantiate that claim, we submit HPF Crystal C021 for your review. This Calf Champion from the Breeders Sweepstakes is long and feminine, yet still looks as if she just swallowed an entire round bale. C021 has always been on our radar, just ask Don Guthridge to show you our reply text when he asked who our favorite was back in MARCH. We knew if her genetics were good enough for The W, The L, to The E to build a program around, they would work for us. By the looks of 288C and a few other E.T.’s we have picked up, W43 is going to exceed all expectations. We admire the way 288C is smooth and clean jointed. She exhibits a flat, angular shoulder and comes out into an explosive forerib and barrel. Built for the long haul starting at the ground up, 288C will be a profitable bovine to invest in.

Maybe we shouldn’t have put an embryo in her those other three years: please don’t tell the boss! • She may be one of only six lots in this sale that are not out of a cow that receives FSH but that has not stopped C036 from being voted “Pick of the Week” several times by the showbarn crew. Building a program around the most predominant genetics we can attain, only a select few cows get A.I. bred. In Sleepy Hollow, they either make eggs or take eggs, but 157W has proven her genetics carry more value than most. With five natural calves recorded, she has tallied up three Living Legacy females (C036 will be the fourth) and a Denver Pen Bull that have averaged well over $7,000 per head. Too Red daughters are hard to beat and it’s because of consistency year in and year out, just as 157W displays.

In our opinion, she is an extremely unique beast, being able to blend stoutness and power with one of the most perfect sets of feet and legs we have ever been around. For standing on timber as big as she does, the amount of smoothness, correctness, and flexibility she offers is unrivaled. A589 has already proven she will be able to pass on those traits to her offspring in her first natural calf, C056. We love this female’s growth, volume, and profile. Get in the game early with C056 as we continue to build this cow family up to be one of our cornerstones - even despite the fact that, undoubtedly, Derek will constantly remind us who bred her.

Not only has X071 produced females of the highest caliber, but her bulls have been impressive as well.
