TEN & UNDER TENNIS 6-8 & 9-11 YRS
Children ages 6-8 can learn the game of tennis using modified tennis balls and smaller courts to allow for easier learning. Balls are lower in compression: they bounce lower and don’t move as fast. This gives kids time to get to the ball and helps them develop optimal swing patterns. MARCH 8 Mammoths and Tigers and Sloths, Oh My! Take a walk back in time when large animals roamed with man, and ice covered much of the West. Learn about the mammoths, mastodons, saber toothed-cats, dire wolves, and giant sloths that lived and went extinct 100,000 – 10,000 years ago during the late Pleistocene. Explore the different theories about why these animals disappeared. Become a paleontologist for the day and go on a fossil dig, build a 3-D ice age animal, compare the climate then and now, and learn what the past can tell us about the future.
About the Jim Hall Foothills Learning Center
Once again we celebrate these magnificent birds of prey that live right here in Hulls Gulch! Join us for an amazing day where you will learn about (and hopefully see) wild Great Horned Owls and their owlets (baby owls). We’ll have some of our favorite hands-on activities lined up for you to do like owl pellet dissections, face painting and more. Thanks to the Sunrise Rotary Club for awarding us a grant to purchase two new spotting scopes which doubles our viewing capacity. We hope you can join us for this very special annual program.
The FLC offers free classroom lessons and field trips to school-aged students. Lessons are interactive and inquiry-based and are correlated to Idaho Content standards. We welcome lesson requests for school teachers, home school groups, scout troops, or any organization or individual who wants to put together a group of 8 or more participants.
The migratory birds are returning and the foothills are a-blooming! Enjoy a day of art and exploration in the foothills. Join Boise artist Joni Frey as she puts you in touch with your inner artist. Take a walk with a naturalist and explore the flowers and birds that are abundant in the foothills in spring. Meet a new bird, find a new flower and learn a little bit more about the plants and animals we share these foothills with. Take your mom to the foothills as a mother’s day gift that she will always remember!

TREE SELECTION AND PLANTING
Choosing a tree requires careful consideration of soil and the environment along with considering the mature characteristics of the tree. Boise City arborist Ryan Rodgers will point out cultural requirements and growth habits of tree varieties that do well in the Treasure Valley. Planting incorrectly is one of the most common reasons for tree failure. Unfortunately, sometimes the problem isn’t evident for 10 or more years. Once you’ve chosen the perfect tree for your area, learn the correct way to plant, or what to look for when someone else plants, to ensure the long term success of the tree. AGES DAYS TIME
