From Father to Son
D
urability, adaptability and organic growth are the elements that form the cornerstone of Boknäs. The story of the family-owned company began from personal needs. My father and uncle
owned an antiquarian bookshop. As a schoolboy, I would spend my Saturdays there perched on a bar stool behind the counter, selling to customers just like my more experienced role models. Over the years, the selection and my sales skills gradually grew. As the book collections expanded, we needed more shelf space. The first bookshelf was designed for my father and the subsequent one for the bookshop. Our customers’ interest was soon aroused, and we began crafting bookshelves also for them. Boknäs was born almost by accident. We continued to listen to our customers. Once they had somewhere to store their books, they needed a place to read. Gradually, we introduced armchairs and reading lamps to the selection. And as customers carried more books home, they needed additional elements for expanding their shelving. Just like our selection, our company has grown one step at a time. The Boknäs Classic collection (p. 24) was accompanied by the Boknäs Scandic (p. 36) and Boknäs Vintage (p. 45) collections. In recent years, we have also included sofas, armchairs and beds in the range (p. 60). We curated three interior looks for this catalogue. Nature-Inspired (p. 4) whisks you to the Finnish archipelago, Urban Romance (p. 10) is inspired by loft living, and Cosy Elegance (p. 16) is an eclectic mix of different periods with a relaxed touch. Boknäs Classic Built from modules, configurations can be perfectly tailored according to your needs and the available space. Extend upwards or along the adjacent wall with corner pieces. Also the dimensions of shelf modules can be customised. The ingenious structure protects your collections from dust.
FINISHING TOUCHES WITH CROWN MOULDING Crown moulding needs to be added to the top module. Boknäs Classic modules are available in 14 different colours. EXTEND UPWARDS You can stack as many elements on top of each other as space allows. Modules can also be placed above doorways or extended around the corner along the adjacent wall.
DRAWERS FOR EXTRA STORAGE Add drawers between shelves. You can also stack a number of drawers on top of each other, modifying the height of the configuration.
COMBINE HEIGHTS Cabinet elements are available in three different heights – 31 cm, 36 cm and 47 cm. Mix them up to create variety.
COMBINE DIFFERENT DEPTHS You can place elements of a depth of 31 cm on top of a 39 cm deep element. You can also integrate a desk unit or bar into a shelf. Cabinets are available with LED lighting.
ADD VARIETY WITH DOORS Filing cabinets are available with a lifting door or pair of doors. Maximise storage space inside a cabinet by adding a shelf.

Durable wood through proper care A natural, unique wooden piece of furniture creates a stiking and durable partner. Removing dust is almost all the care that is needed.
A unique partner Uneven texture, colour variation and minor cracks are all part of the nature of wood. The differing shades are a result of colour variation in the surface of the wood. Colour is also affected by whether the piece is from sapwood or heartwood, the time of year the tree was cut down and the drying method.

You can also use products designed for cleaning furniture, such as a general-purpose cleaning solution. White spirit solvent can be applied to water-insoluble stains. Do not use any other type of solvent. Finish off by wiping the surface with a clean cloth moistened with water.

Protect from scratches
Wooden furniture does not tolerate strong moisture and temperature fluctuations. Excess moisture may cause it to bend or crack and result in open glue joints. The UV rays of the sun can cause colour changes on the surface of the wood. All Boknäs furniture is intended solely for indoor use.
Abrasives, harsh cloths and cushions damage surfaces and may cause variation in shine. Also strong alkalic and acidic detergents damage varnished surfaces. Use furniture waxes in moderation. Surfaces may get damaged when removing layers of wax. Also nail polish removers, perfumes and hairsprays containing solvents damage varnished surfaces.
Good riddance to dust Dusting furniture with an anti-pilling, moist cloth is all the basic care that is needed. Dusting with a dry cloth may scratch the surface. If using detergents, always test the product on an unnoticeable spot in advance. To polish a piece of furniture, apply the polish to the entire treated area

Shield from heat Make sure to use thick enough protection under hot, cold or moist dishes. Dishes placed directly on the surface may leave a white ring. Furniture should be moved by lifting. Dragging along the floor puts pressure on joints and loosens them.

Tailored to Your Wishes Add Boknäs Classic pieces to house your book collection or a place for your TV, or create an office area that is easily concealed behind doors. The dimensions of modules can be customised.
STACK ON TOP A piece can be extended upwards with elements of the same width. You can add a drawer in between to spice up shelf modules. A bar element is also available, which can be fitted with a desk unit.
MAKE USE OF DIFERENT HEIGHTS You can combine cabinets of different heights – 31 cm, 36 cm or 47 cm.
EXTEND SIDEWAYS Build the lower part using cabinets or drawers or making use of both. PLAY WITH DEPTH Stack narrower elements on top of a wide base. Both the bar element and desk unit fitted inside the bar is available with a depth of 31 cm. FINISH OFF WITH A TOP You can add a top or lid to a low element. Crown molding adds the finishing touches to top units.
BUILD ON TOP OF THE BASE You will need to fit the lower part with a base or hidden base that doubles as additional storage space. A leg base is another alternative.

Boknäs Classic furniture comes in 14 colour options. Shelf system elements are also available as shortened versions, meaning that creating unique, tailored fittings is easier for any space. In addition to assembling shelf and furniture configurations from elements of your choice, you can also get creative with colour. A piece of furniture in a single colour is always a stylish option, but also different shades can be blended together. Colour plays a stronger role the larger the unit. An intense colour transforms a piece into an eye-catcher in an instant.

When selecting the right shade, consider the colours of other pieces in the same space. Make the most of each piece of furniture by ensuring colours blend seamlessly together. Everything does not have to come in the same shade of wood, but a narrower palette does create a tranquil ambience. White works with all other hues. A varnished surface accentuates the natural texture of wood. Mid-brown, dark brown, birch, woodwash, rosewood and oak are all tones that reveal the wood grain beautifully. A combination of wenge and oak works nicely, as does snow white and oak.

The crown molding is available in 7 colour options. If you place a 140 cm wide cabinet on top, also the molding needs to be 140 cm wide.
DIFFERENT DEPTHS
Narrower elements can be placed on top of wider elements. Small cabinets can also be replaced with a 140 cm wide unit. Choose between wood, slat or glass doors. Cabinets are also available with lighting. The backboard comes in a range of colour choices.
MAKE USE OF SHELVES
Internal shelving in wood or glass is available for the cabinets. You can choose between different colours and the option of lighting.
EXTEND SIDEWAYS ADJUST THE HEIGHT
Two magazine shelves can be placed above the chest, changing the overall height of the configuration. You can also modify the height of the cabinets.
Sets of drawers are available with a depth of 39 cm and width of 70 cm. The set of drawers can be replaced with a cupboard. Sets of drawers and cupboard need to be equipped with legs and a top. All of the elements are available in different colour options.
HIGHLIGHT THE LEGS
Change the overall look by opting for legs in one of the 7 colour options.
STACK ON TOP
You can assemble a configuration using just cabinets or why not stack several sets of drawers above each other. The wider set of drawers is also available at a height of 46 cm.
CHEST OR CABINET?
The chest below can be replaced with two 70 cm wide cabinets, which will change the overall height. Alternatively, go for a single 140 cm wide cabinet below. Cabinets with glass doors also come with LED lighting. Cabinets and chests need to be fitted with legs or a base. - 42 -

FINISH OFF WITH MOLDING If you opt for two separate cabinets on top, you will also need two separate crown moldings. For a 140 cm element on top, always choose a crown molding of the same width. If space isn’t an issue, you can always extend upwards later on.

They can be switched for a single, 140 cm wide cabinet available with either glass or wooden doors. Alternatively, place a taller cabinet with glass doors below. GLASS OR WOODEN DOORS? You can also choose wooden doors for the lower cabinet. Cabinets with glass doors are available with lighting. Or why not replace the lower cabinets with drawers or cupboards. EXTEND SIDEWAYS Extend the unit sideways with cabinets with wooden or glass doors. You can also add a small or large chest of drawers or another cupboard next to the cabinet unit. As needs change, you can extend upwards.
ADD PRACTICAL SHELVING Additional shelving is available for cupboards and cabinets. Choose between wooden and glass shelves. Both come with the option of lighting. PLAY WITH DEPTH You can assemble a piece from elements of the same size or play with different depths. Add 31 cm deep elements on top of a 39 cm cabinet, cupboard or chest of drawers. You can also opt for two small drawers under narrow cabinets.
HIGHLIGHT THE BACKING You can choose the backboard from a range of 7 different colours.
SPICE IT UP WITH DRAWERS You can place 140 cm wide sets of drawers or two 70 cm wide sets of drawers between the cabinets. A magazine shelf is another option between the cabinets.

Keep away from heat
Grooves and marks on leather are a tell-tale sign of genuine, high-quality materiaw. Keep leather furniture in top-notch condition by placing it at least 30 cm away from radiators and fireplaced. Heat dries up and hardens leather and causes it to crach. Direct sunlight can gradually fade its colour.

Protect from splashes Don’t paint your nails or remove nail polish on a leather sofa. Any products containing oil or solvents are corrosive. Shield furniture from paint when renovating.
Goodbye dust
Remove dust from leather surfaces once a week using a soft, slightly damp cloth. Mild soap water is a suitable cleaning agent. If leather gets moist, avoid rubbing. Rubbing causes leather to stretch and wear down more easily. Dust can also be vacuumed using a soft brush head. Leather furniture is ideal for people with allergies, as dust can be removed from surfaces entirely without it penetrating through the surface to the structure. Clean furniture more thoroughly 2–4 times a year.
Leather care
All leather surfaces are more durable, if maintained with products specifically designed for treating leather. Treatment prevents dirt from adhering. Make sure to particularly protect areas used the most, such as seat cushions and arm and backrestd.
