THE BISHOP VESEY IS BACK! After closing for six weeks of construction to allow for the pub’s highly anticipated roof garden to be built, The Bishop Vesey will re-open on Friday 4th May, just in time for the bank holiday. The 1924 sqft roof terrace will have a grassed floor, booth seating, covered areas and separate smoking and non-smoking sections. The new terrace will be open 7 days a week from 8am - 10pm, with last orders for food at 9pm. The Bishop Vesey will re-open its doors for breakfast as usual at 8am on 4th May. There will be an extended range of ales on offer and a brand new pizza oven in the kitchen. Throughout the bank holiday the team will be aiming to raise £1,000 for The Alzheimer’s Society, in support of Sue and Darren Bradbury who will be taking on the Jurassic Coast Challenge, a 100km walk around Cornwall taking place in July. Manager Siobhan commented “All the team as so excited to get back to The Vesey, we have really missed the pub and our customers and we thank everyone who has taken the time to send us such lovely comments on social media since we closed. We can’t wait for everyone to start using the new roof terrace and we hope to welcome plenty of new faces over the coming months. It’s going to be a great summer in Boldmere!” For updates on The Vesey’s progress visit facebook.com/TheBishopVesey or twitter. com/TheBishopVesey

Boldmere Adult Education Site for Sale Birmingham City Council have formally put the Boldmere Adult Education Centre site up for sale. Residents were angry when Birmingham City Council demolished the site earlier this year, despite Boldmere Futures Partnership registering the centre as an Asset of Community Value. The 1.77 acre site, which is expected to raise around ÂŁ2m, is being promoted for potential residential development, care home / retirement village, education, health or leisure and community facilities. Residents are hoping that a sympathetic developer can be found that might provide community facilities as part of the development. Details of the tender process can be found at property.birmingham.gov.uk The closing date for tenders is Friday 8th June.

Spring Gardening Tips Spring has arrived and it’s time for your garden to recover from winter. Here are some top tips courtesy of Hall’s for getting your garden green and beautiful over the coming months.
Potting, Cutting & Sowing Dead head spring bulbs, removing the stem at the base, and cut back perennials that have provided food and shelter for wildlife over winter, but leave the foliage alone for about six weeks to die down. Sow biennials such as Wallflowers, Sweet William and Canterbury Bells; spread the seeds onto moist seed compost and lightly cover. Place away from direct sun in a warm position. After potting on, the seedlings will be ready to plant out in the autumn, or you can plant seedlings directly and move them to a final position later on in the year.
Grow Your Own Vegetables Broad beans, peas, shallots and turnips can be sown or planted outside, preferably under cloches. Lettuces, onions, spinach, and broccoli can all be sown in modules, but keep them in a well lit position so that the seedlings grow into healthy plants. Summer fruiting vegetables from hot climes need all summer to ripen so sow peppers, aubergines and cucumbers now on a window sill or propagator.
Love Your Lawn It’s time to start preparing the lawn for a new season. Rake off any leaves and brush in some compost. For any areas that are excessively wet, it might be time to dig up, add lots of grit and compost underneath and re-lay. If the weather has been mild it may be time for the first cut of the year, set the blades high on a dry day and collect the cuttings to avoid clogging up the surface.
