Hello to Moo! Moo Boutique opened on Boldmere Road in February and is the newest member of the Moo Boutique family, joining its four sister outlets in a growing operation around the country. Moo Boutique focuses on providing exceptional service to discerning women in the 30 to 60 age range. They carry over 30 brands including French Connection, Great Plains and Masai, alongside some amazing new up and coming Scandinavian brands that have received a huge following. Moo Boutique sources and sells ranges that are suitable for everything from Ibiza-inspired collections and festival ranges, to fashion forward Scandinavian styling. With their main focus being on the cut, quality and style of their clothes, they ensure their pieces are at the forefront of fashion with a very commercial edge. Moo Boutique Boldmere Manager, Nic Miller, was previously a midwife and told us that the reason she wanted to switch was due to the pressures and responsibilities of midwifery, plus she wanted a new challenge in life. With new stock arriving every week, it’s definitely worth popping into Moo Boutique to see what’s on the rails! Plus, be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram where regular competitions and promotions take place. www.facebook.com/moobouboldmere www.instagram.com/moobouboldmere

Time to say goodbye... After three years as Editor of the Boldmere Pages, I am sad to announce that this will be my last issue and the very capable Robin Gray will be taking over from June. This is not a decision I have made easily as I have loved being a part of the community and helping to promote the wonderful businesses we have on our doorstep. I have a young family and I feel like it is time to focus on them for a while. I know, however, that the magazine will be in very capable hands. Robin has plans to develop it further by making some exciting changes over the coming months. A well known member of the local community, Robin is experienced in all aspects of media and runs his own media company. He’s excited to bring the Boldmere Pages into the Gray Jones Media fold. Finally, I just want to say a big thank you to all the businesses and readers, who have helped make the Boldmere Pages a success, it really has been a pleasure.

Alice photo revealed ahead of micro art exhibition The world’s leading micro-sculptor, Dr Willard Wigan MBE, has released photos of his latest piece created for his forthcoming exhibition at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall. His microscopic Alice in Wonderland will be one of 25 pieces shown at the charity trust venue in April and over the Easter holidays. “I’ve given this Alice, made from kevlar, a cartoon appearance and she has a wide-eyed look of wonder. This was quite a task, considering each of her eyeballs are smaller than a blood cell…. so just imagine how small the dots of her eyes are! “To paint her dress blue - using a dalmatian hair glued onto an acupuncture needle - I had to keep rotating Alice carefully to stop the colour spreading. To avoid any shakes, which would ruin the piece, I slowed my heartbeat and worked between pulses. It drove me crazy to create, but I know it’s worth it to see people’s faces when completed. “I’m really proud of this piece, I created shoes out of fibre rather than painting them on, and she has perfect, tiny fingernails. A photograph cannot do it justice, people will have to see it through the microscope to make sense of it… and they still won’t believe their eyes!” ‘Willard Wigan Through The Looking Glass’ will run from 1st - 26th April (not 7th) and is a joint project between the Town Hall and the Birmingham based artist. Visitors can pay on the door, with tickets at £6 for adults and £4 concessions (under 16s, students and over 65s). School and large group bookings should contact the box office on 0121 296 9543. An Evening with Willard Wigan’, featuring a talk by the artist, Q&A and entry to the exhibition will take place on Thursday 11th April. Tickets are £12. Concerts in the Park is back for 2019! Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council has announced this summer’s dates for Concerts in the Park. The event will once again take place in the beautiful surroundings of Sutton Park, on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June. This will be the third year the event has taken place, with 8,500 people enjoying last year’s programme. The world class City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will headline the Saturday night concert with a programme of popular classics, music from the movies and Prom favourites. The orchestra will be conducted by CBSO Associate Conductor Michael Seal and UK swing act The Jive Aces are confirmed as the support group. Further acts and the evening’s compere will be confirmed later in the spring.

Sunday’s family concert will see Alice in Wonderland themed family fun in Sutton Park, with the Madhatter and the Queen of Hearts joining audiences to play giant outdoor games, the popular craft marquee, plus story teller Gavin Young returning to the park. On the main stage the CBSO’s mini orchestra will perform some curious tunes, B’Opera will make beautiful music aimed at tiny ears, and Let’s All Dance will bring the famous tale to life in a magical ballet production for girls and boys. Organisers are once again looking for Sutton Coldfield choirs and performers to join the main stage programme, to showcase the town’s talent. To express your interest, please visit the Town Council’s Facebook page. Tickets will go on sale on Monday 8 April with residents able to purchase tickets exclusively for three weeks. This year tickets will only be available online via the Town Council website. Tickets for the Saturday event will be £25 for adults and £15 for children and those on benefits, with the gates open from 3.30pm and the first act on stage at 4pm. Tickets for the Sunday event will be £20 for a family ticket, £8 for adults, £4 for children and those on benefits. Gates will open at 11am. Caramel and Pear Cake Ingredients: • • • • • • • •
300g sugar 300g margarine 300g self-raising flour 6 eggs 1 tin of pear quarters Few drops of caramel flavouring Can of condensed milk caramel sauce Chocolate sauce
• If there are any left over, you can chop these and place in the cake mixture • Pour the remaining mixture on top of the pears and then place in the oven • Bake at 170 degrees for approximately 30 / 40 mins • If after 30 mins it looks golden but still not set, turn the oven down to allow the centre to cook without burning the top • When the cake is cool, cover with the caramel sauce and smooth over
Method: • Place the margarine, sugar, flour and eggs in a bowl and mix together until smooth and light in colour • Add your flavouring and mix well • Line the bottom of a 8” round loose bottom tin with parchment paper then place a thin layer of mixture on the bottom of the tin • Drain the pears and if they are too chunky slice in half and layer in a circle
• Squeeze the chocolate sauce in a circle spiral like you are creating a spider’s web • Using a sharp point, draw alternating lines into the middle of the cake and then back out again to create the pattern
Note: You can alternatively make this a chocolate and pear cake by substituting 75g of flour with cocoa.
Try this cake and more at the Deli Social 60b-60c Boldmere Rd, Sutton Coldfield B73 5TJ Keep up to date with all the events at The Deli Social: www.facebook.com/TheDeliinBoldmere
