Get a taste for the Deli Collective Award-winning Boldmere eatery the Deli Social, has opened a new outlet in Sutton Coldfield town centre called the Deli Collective. Run by Pippa Goode, and recently joined by her son Matthew, the Deli in Boldmere has grown into an award-winning café and bar and a much loved part of the local community. The Deli’s newest venture, the Deli Collective, recently opened in the place of the old La Fabrique coffee shop in the Gracechurch Centre. On offer is fresh coffee to drink in or take out, using beans from Birmingham’s own Quarter Horse Roastery, quality breakfast and brunch items (including famous Birmingham brand Lashford Sausages), bread and pastries from a Solihull-based artisan bakery, fresh crepes, and a range of sandwiches freshly prepared on site. Pippa Goode said: “We saw the closed down coffee shop in the Gracechurch Centre and after investigating its availability realised it would be an exciting opportunity for expanding the Deli brand. We have helped to establish a great community in Boldmere and hope that we can now develop a loyal customer base in Sutton Coldfield town centre.” Matthew Goode said: “We have built the Deli brand on good customer service, great tasting food & drink, and the use of quality ingredients, locally sourced where possible. We are really excited to introduce the Deli Collective to the people of Sutton Coldfield.”

Gym & Slim Boldmere’s Best Kept Secret Gym & Slim, the ladies only gym on Union Drive, has undergone a transformation and has relaunched with a bang! Gym & Slim’s newly transformed space features circuit, cardio and studio zones. This range of activities is rare for female gyms, normally the focus is just on circuit and toning plates. The circuit zone features a ten station, full body workout with a three-minute buzzer sounding to signify the time to move. The cardio zone features the latest equipment including the very popular Stairmaster, cross trainers, two different types of bikes and for the first time at Gym & Slim, treadmills. The studio zone is a fully kitted out space where classes are held three times a day (Mon - Fri) and features equipment such as battle ropes - which are traditionally a male-orientated exercise but can be great for everyone, bounce - which is a gentler workout using exercise balls, and stretch, which is great for developing mobility, plus much more. Not only are the classes perfectly designed for the abilities of the group, but they are also designed to be done at home, so you never miss a class! Gym & Slim is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm, and Saturday & Sunday, 9am to 2pm. These newly expanded opening times are designed so that everyone can benefit from the gym at a time that suits them.

12

Alongside a physical workout, Gym & Slim is designed to give your mind a workout too as they organise regular social activities and workshops, and there is even a coffee area where people can socialise before or after class. We spoke to Gym & Slim’s Manager, Kerry Mann, who explained that Gym & Slim’s ethos is to nurture a friendly, supportive environment where people can come and feel part of a community. There are no contracts to sign, unlike other gyms, as she wants people to stay because they enjoy their time at Gym & Slim, not because they are contractually obliged. Come and discover one of Boldmere’s best kept secrets for yourself with a free guest visit and free induction. PLUS, right now you can benefit from no joining fee and one month free! For more information, visit gymandslim.com or pop in and see the gym for yourself.

GET INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITEA If your resolution for 2019 was to share the skills you have with others or to learn new ones, Age Concern Birmingham has plenty of opportunities for you to get involved in. The Communitea gardening and allotment group is where people can swap tips and information on all things horticultural. They meet on Saturdays from 1.30pm - 3pm at the Communitea Café in Boldmere and are also currently looking for people who want to get their hands dirty and join in with the new community allotment at Sunnybank Rd. Themed community walks take place on the last Thursday of every month, starting at 11am from Communitea Cafe. A great way to get to know others locally, each month the walking group will be joined by a local PCSO, providing an ideal chance to discuss any safety concerns you may have about getting out and about in the area. On the 28th February walk, the theme will be local history and on 28th March, walkers will be spotting signs of spring. All are welcome, including dogs! The Age Concern Birmingham team are also hoping to start a ‘Repair Café’, where volunteer fixers get together each month to show others how to mend broken household items which would otherwise be thrown away. It’s a great opportunity to pass on skills and also reduce the amount of waste going into landfill, so if you have practical knowledge in areas such as sewing, woodwork or DIY, and a few hours to spare each month, please contact Kate Gomez via the details below. The Communitea Café is also home to a knitting group, a sewing club, a social group for ex-service personnel, and support groups for parkinson’s, carers, tinnitus and people who are deafblind. Our younger guests are also catered for on Friday mornings with a baby group and storytime with Elsie. For more information on any of the above groups or activities, please contact Kate Gomez on 0121 362 3656 or email K.Gomez@ageconcernbirmingham.org.uk. www.ageconcernbirmingham.co.uk
