From Mrs. Faulkner

This week we have seen a number of fixtures in the diary, with Cross Country living up to its usual reputation of cold and muddy conditions. Despite this, the boys have battled on and are currently sitting in first place in the Bolton schools league – there are two more rounds to go so we will be keeping our fingers crossed that they can maintain that strong start. We also hosted a very close U10 football fixture against Egerton Primary School this week – it was an exciting game, played to a high standard and with great examples of sportsmanship on show. The final result of 5-5 was probably the most fitting outcome. I’m looking forward to catching some of the Year 3 fixture next Monday. Representing school is something we aim for all of the boys to achieve across the course of the year as it brings so many benefits, including the opportunity to challenge themselves beyond the classroom and collaborate as part of a team in order to achieve a common goal. It is important that the boys understand that they might not always be picked for a school team, with so many boys to select from Mr Grieve and his staff team work very hard to rotate squads and ensure that teams are appropriately matched to the particular fixture or opposition.

Whilst we are still settling into the current term, our minds in school also begin to turn to the year ahead and we are looking forward to our annual Open Morning on Saturday 12th October

Boys in Year 6 would usually take that opportunity to visit Senior School and parents should have received more specific details about that from the Boys’ Division registrar, Miss Fenton. We do usually ask that all Year 5 boys are available to help at Park Road which may include acting as a tour guide, supporting a particular sporting, academic or musical activity. Parents of Year 5 boys have been asked to complete a google form to confirm that their son will be available to support that event, if you have not yet done so, please can I ask that you attend to that as quickly as possible so that we may make those final arrangements.

Mrs Brisk spoke to the boys’ about bringing toys into School. They are allowed to bring one or two small toys/ cars or a pack of cards if they wish, but no large items and we accept no responsibility for lost or broken toys in School.

Eco-Committee

Our Eco-Committee have made a great start to the year. This week we begin to conduct daily litter picks within the school grounds and plan to make regular trips around the school boundary to help keep our community litter free. One of our targets is to save energy in school. We will make daily checks around the school during lunchtimes to make sure that lights and interactive boards are turned off if not in use. Hopefully this will encourage students to do the same at home.

News from the Art Room

Great to start the year with a burst of colour as the boys are introduced to or research their knowledge of colour theory. Understanding how colours are made but also of different colours complement each other or create a mood are core pieces of knowledge which will support all artwork- fun too!

HOME exhibition - Creatives Now current exhibition explores the theme of home. This great youth -led space in Bolton Market place is an amazing place to visit and see just what creative things are going on locally. Mr Minta has two pieces in the exhibition alongside artists from all over the world. Pop in next time you are in Bolton.

Achievements

Jasper (6B) had a good weekend competing in the Lowlands Championships in Landgraaf, The Netherlands (Snow World). This was his first international race as a U12 racer. He represented Great Britain against racers from other 'Lowland' Nations (Ireland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Turkey & Hungary) The top 5 international racers in each category on each day scored points for Team GB. Jasper pushed very hard to achieve 4th place positions on both days of racing, gaining a total of 6 points for Team GB who went on to win The 2024 Nations Cup. Well done Jasper!
