Bolton School Primary Division Junior Boys
From Mr King
Thursday 15th December
We have made it to the end of what has been a very busy and fulfilling term at Park Road. Last week, we held our Carol Service at Senior Girls’ Division. Please click on this link to see the full concert. We hope that you find the video captures some of the magic from last week’s performances.
This week, like every other this term, has been fun-filled and action-packed. We started the week with a special assembly led by Barry, our Lollipop Man. Barry talked to the boys about pantomime and the conventions and expected responses when watching a performance.
The boys were also introduced to Stripes the Elf, who has encouraged them to share positive and caring messages before the term ends. The boys have responded with well wishes to each other, parents, grandparents, brothers, teachers, staff and, of course, their friends. In turn, Stripes has magically manoeuvred around the school over the course of the evenings this week.
Yesterday, we took the whole school to the Albert Halls in Bolton to watch a performance of “Jack and the Beanstalk”. The boys very much enjoyed the show and plenty of laughs were had by all. There was plenty of crowd participation and it was a delight seeing some of our boys engage in their first ever panto experience. We got to shout, dance, sing and laugh together. A special thanks again to our PA who helped fund the outing.
Today, the boys started the day with the Gymnastics Final where we were treated to some excellent, well-rounded routines. The boys are to be commended for development of these routines and control of their movement. They were, of course, well supported by Mr Duxbury and Mr Grieve over the course of the last half term. Through the morning, the boys took part in a range of activities including party games, a quiz, movies and outdoor fun. We ended our day with an assembly and a house recap.
I would like to wish all our boys and their families a restful and enjoyable holiday. They have worked incredibly hard over the course of the term and some quality family time is just reward for their endeavours. I would like to thank our parents and families for their support over the term and of course a HUGE thanks to our talented and hard working teachers for everything they have done to make the term so special for the boys.
Merry Christmas - Mr King

The boys all certainly got into the Christmas spirit yesterday as we took the whole school and all the staff on a trip to see “Jack and the Beanstalk” at The Albert Halls in Bolton.
The boys joined in with great gusto as the cast told us the tale of Jack, his love for the princess and their adventures along the way with the giant and Daisy the cow.
Some hilarious characters graced the stage, dressed in some rather outrageous costumes and much fun was had by all. The grand finale saw everyone on their feet singing “I’m In the Mood For Dancing” with the whole cast, lead by one of the Nolan Sisters !
Many thanks to our PA for funding such a fantastic afternoon.
Headphones / Earphones in School
Headphones/earphones are an essential piece of kit for school and are day. not be an expensive brand and ideally should not be battery powered or have a Bluetooth connection to the school iPad. More and more boys are turning up at school without them and , as a result, are unable to take part in the audio/visual element of lessons using the iPad. An excellent last minute stocking filler if your son doesn't have any. CDH

DT Recycled Art Project
If you have an old, wooden skateboard at home (broken or otherwise!), please bring it to the School Office, to be passed on to Mr Winstanley, who will be undertaking an upcycling project this half term.
More details about the project can be found on Parent Portal. AW
Carol Service
Last Wednesday's Carol Service was a lovely event where the whole school came together for our annual Carol Service.
Ibrahim Iqbal opened the service with a lovely solo in 'Once in Royal David's City' and sang exquisitely.
The boys had worked hard to learn the whole school carols and Upper School Choir really enhanced the others with their wonderful descants. We enjoyed hearing the choirs sing 'Walking in the Air', 'The First Noel' and 'Bethlehem'. In between the carols, our Y6 readers read their passages with confidence and clarity. A big thanks to all the staff involved and well done to all the boys on a memorable evening in the Girls’ Division Great Hall. HJO
Cold Weather
Please ensure that your son brings a warm, waterproof coat to school with him each day next term. It is now extremely cold, and very often wet, and we do expect the boys to go outside at break times, so a warm coat is very helpful indeed.
Please ensure that the coat is clearly named, as they do all begin to look very similar to each other when we have over two hundred coats in the building! If your son wishes to wear a vest under his shirt, please also ensure this is named and white. Thank you.

Congratulations to Amos Thompson in 5A who recently passed his Grade 1 piano exam (London College of Music).

December Geography Mission
Creating a travel guide!
Choose a country or city of your choice. This could be a country you have visited, are going to visit or would like to visit in the future. Create a travel guide to try and persuade the reader to visit the country or city.
You could include unique landscapes, physical and human attractions. You could compare it to other countries nearby/in the same continent and its famous foods.
Email Miss Gillibrand at LJG@boltonschool.org.uk with your submission by Saturday 31st December by 4pm or upload to Whole School Showbie/Geography Competition
PRIZES FOR THE WINNERS! WHO CAN CREATE THE MOST INTERESTING AND GEOGRAPHICAL TRAVEL GUIDE?
Gymnastics Final
Congratulations to all eleven boys who qualified for the Gymnastics Final which was held in school earlier today.
In a very close-run competition, with some very impressive gymnastics on display, the overall winner was judged by Mr Grieve and Mr Duxbury to be Tommy Burke in 6C.
Well done, Tommy !
Thank you to all the parents who came to support and spectate.
Moore 5A recently took the London College of Music Grade 1 piano exam.
He is delighted that all his hard work paid off and gained a Pass with Merit. Well done, Harlan!
done to the 19th Bolton Cubs who donated lots of shoe boxes of gifts to IAT (International Aid Trust).
Hough hand delivered the gift yesterday and they will be with their recipients in time for Christmas
Psychogeography Group
For our final Psychogeography session this year, we took a wonderful winter walk around Queen’s Park, which borders school.
The purpose of the walk…was to have no purpose and simple to enjoy exploring the environment in the spirit of the flâneur.
We walked, talked and enjoyed the crisp winter air. Even a walk with no purpose is good for you with a study showing that a 20 minute walk has a positive effect on attention and academic performance in children. JM
Forgotten Kit
Just a reminder that if your son forgets any books, homework, sport, PE or swimming kit, etc., please do not make the journey to school to drop it off for him.
News from the Art Room
I have been extremely impressed with the care and patience shown by Year 4 while completing their Van Gogh inspired paintings.
The boys have thought carefully about their colour choices and brush strokes with some astounding results.
Well done, boys. JM
Having to explain to his teachers will help him to problem solve for himself and, we hope, not make the same mistake again! Rest assured, we shall always lend equipment to him to enable him to participate in his lessons.

School Uniform Shop
Please note that the School Uniform shop based on Dobson Road will be closed for the Christmas break from Friday 16th December and will reopen on Thursday 5th January, 2023. Any donations of outgrown uniform are always gratefully received.
Such items can be left at reception in a bag marked “Uniform Donations for PA”.
After School Activities
If your son is unable to attend any of the after school activities that he signed up to, please could you ensure that you inform the activity provider in advance, if it is a schoolrun activity, or Mrs Iddon in the School Office, to let them know that he is unable to attend.
We have spent a lot of time recently chasing non attendees for after school activities which means time is reduced on them for all the other boys involved.
BWFC In The Community
This year, Bolton Wanderers in the Community is supporting ‘warm spaces’ over the winter months, to provide a warm and friendly environment for adults and children to attend to save on their own bills and mix with other people. This is not a school-organised event, but you can sign up with your family.
To be able to provide this 'warm space' BWitC is hosting a one mile Santa Dash at the Stadium on Saturday 17th December, 11am arrival for an 11:30am start. Entry is free and includes a ticket to the match against Exeter City (3pm kick-off) after the Dash!
Collection buckets will be available on the day for optional donations and there is also a JustGiving page for online donations: https://www.justgiving.com/bwct. Sharon Brittan, Neil Hart and Lofty The Lion will all be present too! The route is wheelchair and pram friendly, you can also walk, run, skip, or hop!
You must register to join (below), and match tickets can be collected after the dash, https://bookings.bwitc.org.uk/project/36526
