A Message from the Eco Committee

Energy can be saved in your home by assessing whether there is enough daylight in the room. Do you really need to switch the light on?

Our litter pickers have noticed that crisps are regularly being brought in to school. As a school, we want to promote healthy choices and therefore ask that crisps are not brought in for snacks.

Big Battery Hunt

The Big Battery Hunt is a nationwide programme to help educate and inspire young people to recycle more used batteries. Please send your unwanted batteries to school, where we will store them and then take them to our local supermarket for recycling. There are great prizes to be won for school including £3500 towards outdoor and garden equipment. SL

Mr Winstanley plays Water Polo for GB

Over last weekend, Mr Winstanley was in Romania, captaining the Senior Men's GB Water Polo Team which was competing in the European Qualifying Heat for the World Cup 2023.

The team performed very well against strong opposition from Romania, Germany, Ukraine and Malta but, unfortunately, didn't manage to qualify.

Nevertheless, it was an amazing experience for Mr Winstanley and one that he can share with all the boys and, hopefully, it will inspire more of them to take up water polo as Mr Winstanley started his own polo career at Bolton School.

Forgotten Kit

Just a reminder that if your son forgets any books, homework, sport, PE or swimming kit, etc., please do not make the journey to school to drop it off for him.

Having to explain to his teachers will help him to problem solve for himself and, we hope, not make the same mistake again! Rest assured, we shall always lend equipment to him to enable him to participate in his lessons.

Book early to avoid disappointment !

Yesterday, Year 4 travelled to Liverpool to hear the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at their annual school concert called “The Symphonic Time Machine”. We listened to lots of wonderful pieces of music that we have studied in lessons over the past term and also joined in, singing with “Back in Time for the End of the Song”, which was specially written for the concert.

All of the boys had a great time, loved seeing an orchestra right in front of their eyes and came away with lots of smiles. Many thanks to Mrs Critchley and Mrs Darbyshire for coming along with us.

GD PA Plant Sale

We are delighted to announce that GD Parents’ Association will again organise their annual Foundation-wide plant sale. It is a significant fundraising opportunity for us and so your support would be greatly appreciated. We would like to encourage the wider school community, any friends, neighbours and families, to add some colour to their outside spaces by ordering hanging baskets and plants via our very successful plant sale.

Ordering is really easy, emails or texted images of our form are accepted and payments made via online banking. Plants will be ready for collection on Saturday 13th May. The order form is linked here and is also available via the School website (or Parent Portal).

Please place an order with us and remember to mention this to your friends too. Don’t miss out, as the absolute deadline for orders is the end of March. As in previous years, plants will be delivered to Bradshaw so that collections can be arranged from Saturday 13th May at a time convenient to you (other collection points can be arranged too). Any questions please contact Amanda Valentine via bsbdpa@gmail.com<mailto:bsbdpa@gmail.com

Year 6 Play: Important Dates

Due to a range of events in the school calendar, the Year 6 Play 2023 will now be taking place over the following three evenings: Tuesday 4th at 7pm, Wednesday 5th at 7pm and Thursday 6th 5pm. Please note that the Year 6 play is one of our compulsory events and all Year 6 boys are expected to attend, we therefore want to make you aware of this date, in the final week of term, as far in advance as possible.

Closer to the time of the play, rehearsals are understandably very important for all boys to also attend and it would help us if you could avoid the following rehearsal dates when making medical appointments:

Monday 17th April: 9.15-10.25 – boys visiting the Girls’ Division theatre

Friday 5th May: 9- 12.00

Monday 22nd May: 13.00 – 16.00

Monday 5th June: 13.00 – 14.30

Wednesday 7th June: 13.00 - 14.30

Friday 9th June : 10.30 – 12.00

Monday 19th June: half day rehearsal (afternoon)

Friday 23rd June: 9-12.00 (half day rehearsal)

Monday 26th June: full day rehearsal

Friday 30th June: morning - dress rehearsal

PERFORMANCE DATES: Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th & Thursday 6th July.

Mrs Hough, in her guise as Akela, has put out a request for us to collect odd socks and socks with holes in and empty miniature bottles for Cub Camp, which takes place in May!
