Division Junior Boys’ School

Summer Term is well and truly underway with the Patterdale Hall trips now taking place. Our Year 4s have had a great time and our Year 5s have headed up today!

It has been great to see the Year 4 tweets from Patterdale over the last few days. I look forward to heading up there next week with our Y3s! I would like to remind our Y3 parents that we will return later than the other trips in order to squeeze in a full day of fun on Friday 5th May. Our estimated arrival time at Park Road is 6pm. We will advise you of any travel issues on the day.

King’s Coronation

We are now busy planning the celebration for the coronation of King Charles III. We invite the boys to come to school on Friday 5th May wearing red, white or blue to mark this momentous occasion.

Final Reminder: Inaugural Hulton Lecture Wednesday 3 May, 5.00pm, GD Great Hall

We are thrilled that the first lecture of its kind will take place in the Girls’ Division Great Hall on Wednesday 3rd May with Old Boy, Rob Dobson (Class of 1982), as the keynote speaker. Further information has been sent home in a recent email. You are invited to join us for the event and afterwards for refreshments in The Leverhulme Suite. There is no charge and tickets will not be issued for this event but it would be helpful in assessing seating requirements if those wishing to attend would let us know to confirm numbers.

Please click on this link to register and follow the instructions to the next screen which will take you to the Hulton Lecture booking page. Parking will be available in the Boys’ Division Quad. Additional parking, if required, will be made available on Dobson Road Quad. Year 6 boys are expected to attend the event but still must register.

Achievements

Well done to Aashrith Govindu in Year 6 who achieved a Merit in his recent Grade 3 ABRSM exam!

Before the holidays, Aashrith, Ashton, Joseph and Ryan from Year 6 represented the Greater Manchester U11 County team in EPSCA regional county chess tournament, which was held at Bolton School Girls Division. Their collective performance helped the Greater Manchester team secure 3rd place and qualify for the EPSCA National Primary school chess finals.

Well done, boys on an amazing achievement. Good luck in the finals!

The May Holiday Club agenda is linked here, book early to avoid disappointment !

Finally, many of our families celebrated Eid last weekend and I would take this opportunity to pass on our best wishes to you all. Eid Mubarak!

Year 4 Visit to Patterdale Hall

The Year 4 boys (and staff!) have had a fantastic time up at Patterdale this week, having lots of adventures and new experiences. Last night, the annual Year 4 Patterdale Kick Rounders Tournament took place and the winner was …… Lever !

We look forward to hearing all about the visit from the boys when they are all back in school tomorrow.

News from the Art Room

I have been hugely impressed with the range and quality of Andy Goldsworthy inspired dioramas which have been produced by some of our Year 6 artists.

Boys have sourced their own materials and spent their own time crafting landscapes and sculptures ready for an upcoming gallery exhibition.

They will write labels for their work and some buys will get the opportunity to present their work to an audience.

Very inspiring. JM

Local Authority Senior School Places

We should like to remind Year 6 parents that, if your son has been offered a senior school place at a Local Authority school, which you do NOT intend to take up, you should advise that LEA yourself.

We are now beginning to receive invitations for some of our Year 6 boys to attend taster days at other schools.

If you have no plans for your son to accept the place, it is important that it should released quickly into the system, so that another child who was not fortunate enough to receive an offer in the first instance, may benefit from it.

Many thanks

GD PA Plant Sale

We are delighted to announce that GD Parents’ Association will again organise their annual Foundation-wide plant sale. It is a significant fundraising opportunity for us and so your support would be greatly appreciated. We would like to encourage the wider school community, any friends, neighbours and families, to add some colour to their outside spaces by ordering hanging baskets and plants via our very successful plant sale. Ordering is really easy, emails or texted images of our form are accepted and payments made via online banking. Plants will be ready for collection on Saturday 13th May. The order form is linked here and is also available via the School website (or Parent Portal).

Please place an order with us and remember to mention this to your friends too. Don’t miss out, as the absolute deadline for orders is the end of March. As in previous years, plants will be delivered to Bradshaw so that collections can be arranged from Saturday 13th May at a time convenient to you (other collection points can be arranged too). Any questions please contact Amanda Valentine via bsbdpa@gmail.com<mailto:bsbdpa@gmail.com.

Year 6 Play: Important Dates

Due to a range of events in the school calendar, the Year 6 Play 2023 will now be taking place over the following three evenings: Tuesday 4th at 7pm, Wednesday 5th at 7pm and Thursday 6th 5pm. Please note that the Year 6 play is one of our compulsory events and all Year 6 boys are expected to attend, we therefore want to make you aware of this date, in the final week of term, as far in advance as possible.

Closer to the time of the play, rehearsals are understandably very important for all boys to also attend and it would help us if you could avoid the following rehearsal dates when making medical appointments:

Friday 5th May: 9- 12.00

Monday 22nd May: 13.00 – 16.00

Monday 5th June: 13.00 – 14.30

Wednesday 7th June: 13.00 - 14.30

Friday 9th June : 10.30 – 12.00

Monday 19th June: half day rehearsal (afternoon)

Friday 23rd June: 9-12.00 (half day rehearsal)

Monday 26th June: full day rehearsal

Friday 30th June: morning - dress rehearsal

PERFORMANCE DATES: Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th & Thursday 6th July.
