Bolton School Primary Division
Junior Boys’ School
Moving up morning: we hope that your son came home from his moving up morning looking forward to the new academic year. The morning was an opportunity for the boys to meet their new form teacher and understand the expectations and opportunities ahead of them. For our Year 4 and Year 6 boys, it was also a chance to see who would be in their form next year.

Of course, all boys will react differently to the upcoming changes and it is important, as adults, to discuss these changes in a positive manner. Changes often bring many new opportunities: meet a new friend; have a fresh start; find a new hobby, passion or skill. We started our morning by discussing these changes with the boys. If your son expresses concerns, it is important that these are listened to and understood. However, it is equally important that you do not make promises to your son about changing classes and solving problems that he can, with support, solve for himself.
Oliver!: we still have tickets available for our Year 6’s production of Oliver The Musical. Please see details in this newsletter on how to purchase your tickets.
New coach route: from Autumn Term, we will be running a new coach route from Oldham – it will become our 23rd route. This route will pick up from TGI Friday’s in Prestwich, which may be a more convenient stop for pupils currently using one of our other coach routes. Please contact Mr Brad Gould if this is something that may be of interest (bdmgould@boltonschool.org.uk).
Jump Xtreme Fundraiser: the Jump Xtreme fundraiser event took place last night, thank you to everyone who attended and helped raise much needed funds. Proceeds will go towards the Malawi Project which we have been raising for all year. We will let you know the grand total raised in due course.
I would like to give an early reminder that next week, we finish at the slightly earlier time of 3.25pm For those boys travelling by coach, this will mean an earlier arrival at their destination.
As we close in on our final week of the academic year, we hope the boys are feeling positive about the year ahead, as well as the year gone by and we wish all of our Muslim families a wonderful Eid!
Message from Mrs Faulkner- Head of Primary Division
There has been a notable increase in those seeking approval for additional days of holiday, very often immediately before or after the normal school holidays. We monitor all such absence in order to spot patterns and discern trends. It is timely to remind you that I cannot, by law, grant absence for holidays in term time unless in exceptional circumstances. However, moving ahead, we would like to revert to our usual rules: boys should attend school in their blazer and tie.
Weather dependent, we will ask them to take their blazer and tie off. However, we do still strongly encourage sunscreen and a sun hat to be brought into school, as well as water bottles to be refilled throughout the course of the day.

Year 5 Drama Workshops
On Monday, half of our Year 5 pupils started a two-day drama workshop which will culminate in a performance to our Year 3 pupils on Friday afternoon.
The rest of the Year 5s completed their drama sessions yesterday and today and performed for Year 4. The workshops are all being held in 'the dome' situated on The Levels, close to Tudor Avenue Woods.
Each group will focus on a play by Shakespeare - A Midsummer Night's Dream or The Tempest - and their performance will depict key scenes and themes from the plays.
The early parts of the workshops have focussed on short activities to enable the boys to focus and be aware of timing, space and the perspective of the audience. Above all, the boys have had fun and hopefully, we have seen some budding thespians for the Y6 end of year production in 2024. KEW

Year 6 Bikeability—last week of term
Year 6 parents: when your son is doing Bikeability in the last week of term, he should come into school in his school uniform and bring suitable clothing and shoes for cycling with him. Please bear in mind that it may be wet weather, so a waterproof coat is required. If sunny, please send your son with a hat and sun cream. The boys will change prior to taking part in the course and will change back into their uniform before leaving school. The course will take up the majority of the day and, as such, no ipads or swimming kit are required.
Bikes should be brought into school on the morning of your son’s course and placed in the playground. If your son is a coach traveller, we have advised Transport that he will be bringing his bike on the coach on the relevant days, if applicable. Don't forget cycling helmets too. Bikes will be kept in school overnight and can be collected from Park Road at 4pm.
Big Battery Hunt
The Big Battery Hunt is a nationwide programme to help educate and inspire young people to recycle more used batteries. Please send all of your unwanted batteries to school, where we will store them and then take them to our local supermarket for recycling.
There are great prizes to be won for school, including £3500 towards outdoor and garden equipment. SL
This Week’s Achievements
On Saturday, Bear Roberts (pictured here with his brother, Will) completed the challenge of abseiling down Peel Tower raising money for the local village primary school in Hawkshaw.
Well done, boys !
Well done to Dylan Jones (4A) who took part in an incredibly competitive chess event recently (the World Champ featured in the under 8s).
Dylan did brilliantly scoring 5/7 among many of the top chess players in the UK in his age group and was one of the youngest in the field. He got the third-highest score. Unfortunately, only the top place qualified for the final and Dylan just missed out on a play-off tournament place. What a fantastic achievement well done, Dylan!
A very successful day at the ESSA Cadet Water Polo Championships today for our boys and Hesketh House girls winners of what must be one of the biggest cups ever!
Congratulations to you all !
Congratulations to Aaron Khan in 5C who, along with his football team, AFC Under 10s, won the Bolton League Tournament last weekend.
The boys went to the Etihad Stadium to play in the final which was a great experience for them all. Well done, Aaron !
Headphones/ Earphones in School
Miss Ormerod has asked if boys could remember that they will need to have their headphones/earphones with them at all time whilst in school in the next few weeks.
Please make sure that your son brings them into school every day. Thank you !
