Bolton School Primary Division
Junior Boys’ School
Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.
Thursday 8th June
As you will have seen from Mr Britton’s email on Monday, I will be moving on at the end of the academic year into a different role, working with adults at Salford College. I would like to thank you all for the warm welcome you have given me this year and for your kind understanding over the last few days. I would like to thank the Park Road staff for their dedication in all that they do for the school. I have received incredible support from Mrs Faulkner, Mr Britton and the wider leadership team and I have no doubt that the school will continue to flourish. It has been a pleasure working with you and your boys and I am confident that the school will continue to provide the very best education and experiences moving ahead. As I have done throughout the year, I will continue to work closely with Mrs Faulkner over the coming weeks. Mrs Faulkner already has a clear understanding of the school but she may be more present in the coming weeks and any matters pertaining to next year should be directed to her.
We still have four and a half very busy weeks ahead and the staff and I remain very much determined to ensure that we have an amazing final half term of the year. It will be business as usual and should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
MHIST, part of Parent Peer Support, is offering drop-in sessions for parents whose children are currently experiencing mental health difficulties. If parents come along on any of these sessions, they will be able to access guidance on support available in the local area. More details can be found linked here.
Before half term, Kelly Boyd stepped down from her role as PA secretary due to other commitments. I am sure you will all join me in thanking Kelly for her efforts during her time on the PA. She has been ever-present and has a great knowledge of the school. Of course, we will still see Kelly around Park Road so it is not farewell, however, this does leave a vacancy of the PA Secretary role which we will look to fill moving ahead.
Message from Mrs Faulkner- Head of Primary Foundation
There has been a notable increase in those seeking approval for additional days of holiday, very often immediately before or after the normal school holidays. We monitor all such absence in order to spot patterns and discern trends. It is timely to remind you that I cannot, by law, grant absence for holidays in term time unless in exceptional circumstances.
The clear sense of the guidance is that ‘exceptional’ also means rare and certainly not due to the planning of flights and other logistical arrangements. Permission must be granted in advance, so a letter on the day of the absence or a call as a holiday is extended cannotbe authorised.Thisiswhysuch absence isrecorded as ‘unauthorised’.

Year 6 Careers Carousel
Just before half term, Year 6 boys and girls were treated to a visit from Bolton School alumni. BBC Sports Journalist; Dave Woods, Orthopaedic Surgeon; Mobeen Quershi, and Neurological Researcher; Alisha Patel, spoke to the Year 6s about their chosen career paths and gave them an insight into a variety of opportunities in a range of industries. Pupils were excited to learn about the various paths they had taken, they asked insightful questions, and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with such inspirational individuals. GF

Mrs Iddon, from our School Office, conquered the Three Peaks of Saddleworth, on Saturday 27th May, to support the funding of ABCD Retreats (After Breast Cancer Diagnosis Retreats). She trekked over 11 miles, just over 2,500 feet of ascent, in glorious sunshine.
Please donate, if you are able to do so, to her JustGiving page : https:// www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/kate-hall-5?utm_id=1&utm_term=QxRyDeqQe
Mrs Iddon would like to thank everyone who has already donated so generously.
Year 6 Parents : Local Authority Senior School Places
We should like to remind Year 6 parents that, if your son has been offered a senior school place at a Local Authority school, which you do NOT intend to take up, you should advise that LEA yourself.
We are now beginning to receive invitations for some of our Year 6 boys to attend taster days at other schools. If you have no plans for your son to accept the place, it is important that it should be released quickly into the system, so that another child who was not fortunate enough to receive an offer in the first instance, may benefit from it. Many thanks

AJIS Athletics U11 Cricket last ball thriller!
On Tuesday, four boys from Year 6 travelled to Stretford to take part in the AJIS Athletics competition. Benji, Ronnie, Noah and Ashton competed in a variety of track and field events throughout the afternoon.
After some fierce competition in all disciplines, our boys did really well to make a number of finals and record some excellent times and distances. Well done boys. TG
Squash Success
The Markland Hill Junior Squash team recently competed in a tournament at the National Squash Centre in Manchester and the whole team was represented by pupils from Bolton School. Well done, boys ! TG
Our U11 Cricket team hosted The Grange on Monday in the second round of the AJIS Cricket Cup.
In a first for our boys, we played on the Senior School First Team wicket and our captain, Teddy D, elected to bat first. After a steady start, George M- 25 not out, Taran G- 17 and Teddy D- 13, pushed our total to a healthy 98; meaning the visitors required 99 to win.
The boys started well in their defence of the total, taking two wickets in the first over, thanks to some excellent deliveries from George M.
Following this fast start, the boys shared the wickets, taking another eight but The Grange battled to 94, with one over remaining. Two dot balls and four meant The Grange needed one run off the final ball to secure the win.
A reshuffle in the outfield with call of ‘STOP THE SINGLE’, excellentlineandlengthfromTeddyDsawtheballrace through to Noah A, who quickly threw the ball back to the bowler to take a vital wicket and stop the crucial single that The Grange needed. With the game tied, Park Road won on number of wickets taken.
Following this excellent result, our U11 team now plays away at King’s Chester on Tuesday 13th June in the semi-final. Good luck ! TG
