The Year 6 boys certainly seem to have enjoyed their trip to Patterdale and have returned full of tales of their exciting adventures. This week Year 3 boys will head off on their trip to the lakes and I am sure will return just as excited, if not a little tired.

Yesterday evening many of our pupils and parents attended the Hulton Lecture, it was wonderful to see so many in attendance and the boys certainly impressed with their questions following Alisha’s insightful talk about a career in medical research. Particular praise must go to our two Year 6 boys who gave the vote of thanks following the talk, Mukundh and Benedict both spoke very confidently and showed no sign of nerves at talking from the lectern to a packed Great Hall.

Normally in this part of the summer term we would begin to talk about arrangements for the Park Road Fun Run which usually takes place on the last day of this half term. This year the Foundation Charities Committee has agreed that all pupils across the Foundation will take part in a Sponsored Walk in order to raise funds to support what has been a long term aim to assist in the building of a school in Malawi. This will take place much later in June and further details will be sent out nearer the time. Instead of the usual fancy dress costumes, the boys will be asked to dress in the colours of the flag of Malawi. Hopefully that has the added benefit of being more environmentally sustainable as well as less stressful (and expensive) for parents.

Finally, a quick reminder that next week is exam week for boys in Years 4 and 5, with Year 3 and year 6 boys completing theirs the following week.

Pot Noodles for Urban Outreach

Following our successful Christmas collection appeals, the School Council decided that it would be a good idea to support Urban Outreach throughout the year. We organised the emptying of the green Grub Tub on the bottom corridor and it is now ready again to receive donations.

Urban Outreach needs certain things all year round and so we have volunteered to collect pot noodles. Please bring in sealed pot noodles (any flavour) and put them in the green Grub Tub.

Our aim is to collect as many pot noodles as we can by the beginning of July. Thank you ! School Council

at Work !

Year 3 brought their A-game to the brand new kitchen in the Science Room to make flatbread last week.

The boys mixed and rolled their dough, adding a variety of spices before cooking and tasting.

Well done, boys and don't worry...I did all the washing up!

Thank you again to our PA for the funding used in the refurbishment. JPM

Theatre Visit—The Wizard of Oz

Some of our Year 6s were lucky enough to go and see The Wizard of Oz at The Palace Theatre in Manchester recently. There was a star-studded cast (although we didn't realise who was in it until the end!) and the songs and dancing were out of this world.

The boys were, of course, wonderfully behaved and were on the edge of their seats through the performance, even jumping out of them at times.

A very late minibus trip back followed, with some very tired boys!

Thank you for being such great company, boys! PC / NJG

U10 Cricket

Sports News Round Up

Well done to the 20 boys who took part in last weeks u10 cricket fixture Vs Manchester Grammar School. Two very close matches resulted in two losses. Very well done to all boys, especially those representing the school in their very first cricket match.

Bolton Primary Schools Football Festival - Year 3, 4 and 5

Last week nearly 40 boys took part in the biggest football festival of the year. All boys played exceptionally well, competing against teams from the year above. Over the course of the two days, all teams scored some excellent individual and team goals. Everyone should be very proud of themselves.

Y6 Patterdale Hall

Last week, Year 6 enjoyed an action-packed week at Patterdale Hall. Boys enjoyed a range of activities including sailing, gorge-walking, archery and a full day hiking and canoeing.

On the final night, boys pitched their tents and enjoyed the experience of camping in the grounds of Patterdale Hall.

Achievements

The lovely weather doesn't mean our resident Year 5 skier, Jasper, rests on his laurels. His first weekend of racing as an U12 racer got off to a brilliant start!

He competed in the Copper Horse GBR Series Races 1 and 2, the first of a series of five British National races held at Chill Factore, over the summer indoor season.

On Saturday, Jasper pushed hard against brilliant competition and came away with 2nd place. He set himself a big target for Sunday's race and was delighted to achieve that and more - winning 1st place U12, as well as 1st overall Mini (Junior).

Jasper was also very excited to get to meet British World Cup Ski Racer; Dave Ryding, at the race event.

Well done, Jasper-we are all so proud of your ongoing achievements.

Congratulations to Rohan and Teddy (Y6) who were selected to trial for the U13 Tensworth Hockey Team (which represents the NW at the National Tournament).
