A note from the Head…
Some of our families will be observing Ramadan for the next few weeks and we are aware that perhaps a handful of girls will try fasting on some days. It is really important that we know about anyone who might be fasting so that we can keep a close eye on them and make sure that they are feeling okay. Girls are expected to take a full part in school activities as usual, but is it useful for staff to be aware. Please notify us if this applies to your daughter.
Eid is likely to be celebrated on Friday 21 April. Absences will be authorised for Eid, but do please make sure that you inform the office in advance if your daughter is not going to be in school.
Next week we have Easter Bingo! Year 5 and 6 girls are invited to play on Monday at 1.00pm and Year 3 and 4 will have their session on Tuesday at 1.00pm. This costs £1 to enter. All girls receive a treat for playing, with Easter Egg prizes for the winners.
This will be our last Newsletter before Easter and therefore I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a relaxing and enjoyable family break. We start back for the Spring Term on Monday 17 April. Summer dresses are no longer part of our uniform and are not for sale in the shop, but we are allowing girls who already have these to wear them after Easter if they wish. Otherwise, uniform remains the same – skirt, shirt, jumper (if needed) and blazer, with black socks. Please do make sure your daughter always has a coat with her and a reminder that these should be plain and black.
Thank you!
Our donations of uniform have arrived in Malawi, along with the bags of toiletries and stationery. You can see from these photographs how delighted the children were!
Thank you once again for your support.

Pupil Achievements
We love to celebrate the girls’ achievements and would encourage them to bring in any medals, certificates, trophies and awards that they are given outside of school. We can’t always put everything in the Newsletter, but like to give the girls the opportunity to share these in our Friday Achievement Assembly
This week we heard from Year 4 pupil Lily, who participated in the UK Cubing Association’s Speedcubing Competition, which took place in the Senior School last weekend. Lily is known in school for being amazing in solving the Rubik’s cube very quickly and clearly put her skills to good use!
We also congratulated Taliah, Hattie, Fleur, Beatrix, Bronwen and Orla who played in the final of the Junior North Girls’ Lacrosse Association U11 Cup last Sunday, winning 7-3. The girls play for local club Boardman Bears and were absolutely delighted with this fantastic achievement, very well done, and to your other team-mates too!
Activities included silk painting, charity work, outdoor learning in the school grounds, eco-crafts and a Creativity Trail at the Anderton Centre Thank you to the staff for organising such lovely sessions for their groups.
Well done to Sophie Andrews and Lily McCairn, who have both passed their Grade 1 Piano with Distinction; super results We also heard this week about achievements in swimming, horse-riding, football, art, gymnastics and fencing. We even had a future helicopter pilot telling us about her first lesson! Finally, an amazing charity effort by Rahima and her brother who have raised £1200 for the Turkey and Syria Earthquake Appeal!
House Day
Tuesday 21 March
Girls once again enjoyed working in their Houses on Tuesday, on a variety of activities closely linked to our Hesketh Habits. They always welcome the opportunity to work with pupils from all other classes in these sessions, and staff commented on how well they do this and how supportive the girls are of each other.
Author Talk – Stephanie Sorrell
Wednesday 22 March
We were really pleased that one of our Old Girls, Stephanie Sorrell, chose to come back to Bolton School to talk about the publication of her first children’s book. The girls enjoyed hearing about how ‘Dandy the Highway Lion’ was written and were very interested to hear about her life as an author. They were particularly impressed when they found out that Stephanie lived on a boat!

Year 6 Trip to Stockport Air Raid Shelters
Thursday 23 March
Year 6 girls thoroughly enjoyed their World War 2 themed trip to the Stockport Air Raid Shelters this week. They learned so much about communities pulling together in times of national difficulty, and were so lucky to get hands on experience in the shelters and the museum. Thank you very much to our parent volunteers who helped the day to run smoothly.

Cubs
A plea from our Cubs: Any odd/holey socks and empty miniature bottles would be gratefully received for Cub Camp. These can be sent in to school if you have anything, there will be a box in the Office.
Urban Outreach Easter Egg Appeal
We appreciate that we have asked for a lot of support recently, but a charity we are very close to has once again asked us for help. Urban Outreach would like to provide Easter Eggs for the hundreds of families they are currently supporting in Bolton and would be very grateful for any donations. These can be brought in to school before the end of term and we will pass them on.
They say, “Here at Urban Outreach we have this idea – the #BoltonPowerOfOne – 1 person can do 1 thing to make a difference to 1 other person. Here we have a wonderful opportunity to get children to think about giving a gift that will bring joy to another child in their own town.”

The A Team lost their first game against Cheadle Hulme, but then went on to win the rest of their group games which meant they went through to the Cup Competition. They then played Scarisbrick and were narrowly beaten and then Birkenhead where again they lost the match. This resulted in them coming fourth overall, which was an amazing result considering there were 20 schools in the competition. Well done!
The B Team played really well in the first round and after beating St Mary’s, they went through to the Plate Competition. Despite beating Withington, they were knocked out in the quarter finals. Well played everyone!
