Through this course, you will learn about climate control for human comfort, the components of HVAC systems, and the basics of water treatment and plumbing systems. You will gain the skills and knowledge to perform common water tests, maintain air-conditioning systems, maintain water services, and inspect portable fire extinguishers.

This class begins with an overview of thermodynamics, and understanding the HVAC system. Additional topics include: chilled water systems; air cooled chillers; specifying and buying chillers; air handling system operation and maintenance; water source heat pump systems; components, operation and maintenance of heating systems; gas fired, combustion system operations; hot water systems; and steam heating and electric heating systems.

This course will teach you how to operate and maintain steam, hot water, warm air, and radiant heating systems. Budgeting and Accounting 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., July 15-17 Members: $1,099 $599 | Non-members: $1,319 $819 Foundation scholarship is embedded for all students. In this course, you will have the opportunity to apply concepts within the real property and facilities context. You will follow the accounting process and creation of a budget from start to finish, learning valuable skills such as how to interpret financial statements, annual reports, and statements of cash flows. You will also learn practical skills such as how to compile lease abstracts and prepare rent rolls. Building Design and Maintenance 3-7 p.m., April 14 - May 19 Members: $1,099 $599 | Non-members: $1,319 $819 Foundation scholarship is embedded for all students. Learn to compare building system components and to identify appropriate inspection and maintenance techniques. You will develop the knowledge to establish procedures and standards for monitoring building operations, preventive maintenance, and cleaning. You will also learn to read and use construction documents, studying from a coursebook that features a set of drawings and an architect’s pocket scale. Building Engineering (BE 201) 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., May 29 - June 30 Member Company: $369 | Non-member company: $419 For those with more experience and who have already take the 101 class, BOMA Georgia offer Building Engineering 201, a six-day course taught over six weeks. The course combines classroom-style learning, interaction with industry professionals and behind-the-scenes tours of Atlanta buildings. Learn from real-life scenarios while gaining an understanding of relevant building systems in a course specifically designed to teach building engineers how to be successful in their field. Sessions cover basic trade skills, preventative maintenance, risk management, fire and life safety, best practices for communications, and a better understanding of how important the building engineer’s role is to the overall success of the building.

Design Operation and Maintenance Course Part I Is Foundation scholarship eligible 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., June 17-19 Members: $1,099 $599 | Non-members: $1,319 $819 This course provides information property and facility managers need to manage the ongoing operation and maintenance of building systems and to maximize building efficiency and cost-effectiveness. It also provides information on building design and construction, project delivery, construction materials and HVAC systems. Other areas covered in the course include roofing systems, ceilings and floorings, interior walls and plumbing systems. Design Operation and Maintenance Course Part II Is Foundation scholarship eligible 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., July 29-31 Members: $1,099 | Non-members: $1,319 This course provides information that property and facility managers need to make management decisions about various building systems and sites, decisions that will increase occupant safety and comfort while facilitating building efficiency to meet the business goals of an organization. The course provides an understanding of electrical systems and lighting, elevator maintenance and modernization, and pest and solid waste management. It also covers security issues, fire and safety systems and energy management concerns. Electrical Systems and Illumination 3-7 p.m., Tuesdays, June 2-July 7 To safely operate and maintain a building’s electrical equipment, you must thoroughly understand the components of electrical systems and how to measure the electricity your building consumes. This course provides you with a clear understanding of electricity basics, the skills needed to measure electrical consumption, and the ability to recognize, set up, and maintain reliable and effective maintenance and safety systems. Environmental Health and Safety Issues Course 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., February 5-7 Members: $1,099 $599 | Non-members: $1,319 $819 This course provides you with an overview of the environmental health and safety considerations in building operations. You will learn to develop and manage proactive environmental/occupational health and safety programs; comply with regulatory standards and guidelines governing facility health and safety issues; and assess when to obtain technical assistance. Ethics is Good Business Short Course 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., October 15 Members: $399 | Non-members: $499 Is not Foundation scholarship eligible Understand the effect that ethical behavior can have on your professional performance and your property’s bottom line. Through presentations of real-life scenarios and case studies, you will identify and resolve ethical dilemmas that can occur on the job.

Your role will take on new meaning as you learn and understand the impact that you can have on your organization and on the individuals who work for you. The course will reinforce the theory and strategies with a new case study in which management practices are applied to address industry trends and issues related to enhancing the value of an asset.

Foundations of Building Engineering (BE101) Is Foundation scholarship eligible 7:30-11:30 a.m., Fridays, Sept. 18-Oct. 30 Member Company: $369 | Non-member company: $419 In 2018, the Building Engineering 101 course was overhauled and updated to better address the career path needs and technical skills required fro today’s building operations and management professional. Get the solid foundation in building engineering you need through Building Engineering 101™, a six-day course taught over six weeks. The course combines classroom-style learning, interaction with industry professionals, and behind-the-scenes tours of Metro-Atlanta buildings. This dynamic course combines classroom-style learning, interaction with industry professionals and behind-the-scenes tours of metro-Atlanta buildings. It is designed for assistant property and facility managers and others who are interested in expanding their knowledge of the industry. The Georgia Real Estate Commission has approved this course for 24 hours of Continuing Education Units.

Property Management 201 Course Begins May 29 Member Companies: $599 | Non-member Companies: $699

This course is a part of BOMI’s new High-Performance Certificate Program. Learners will gain an in-depth understanding of how to effectively impact efficiency challenges through the use of cuttingedge approaches that have a positive effect on an organization’s financial, social and environmental bottom line. Reduced pricing is for pilot course only. The fourth day (half day) of the course is reserved for examination and feedback.

Property Management 201 is the next step for individuals who have completed PM 101 or who have more experience in the property management field. This five-day course is taught over five consecutive weeks and includes information about accounting and reporting, leasing and marketing, risk management, emergency planning and management skills.

Real Estate Investment and Finance Course Is Foundation scholarship eligible 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., October 7-9 Members: $1,099 | Non-members: $1,319 Through this course, you will learn to take charge of real estate investments in order to maximize the value of a property. You will develop knowledge about basic financial concepts as they relate to real estate, including valuation, analysis, taxation, depreciation and lifecycle costing. Similarly, you will learn to evaluate real estate investments and to develop budgets that estimate net operating income. You will study the income capitalization approach and cover property taxation costs and strategies to offset these costs. You will also gain the skills to conduct discounted cash flow analysis and calculate net present value and internal rate of return. This course features exercises that require the basic use of the HP-10Bii financial calculator. 2020 BOMA Georgia Tour of Buildings 1-4:30 p.m., October 13 Members: $50 | Non-members: $65 Learn more about the diversity of commercial real estate by touring three unique buildings. In one afternoon, you will learn what makes each building so distinct. Each building tour will last one hour and will highlight features specific to the overall operation of the building.

Law and Risk Management Course Is Foundation scholarship eligible 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., May 13-15 Members: $1,099 | Non-members: $1,319 In today’s complex business environment, it is becoming increasingly important for property managers to know how to address legal and risk management issues. This course will provide you with a foundation in the basic principles of law and risk management, helping you deal with everyday legal and risk issues surrounding your business. In addition to covering leasing, the course covers important issues concerning torts, contracts, employer/employee relations, property rights and environmental law. The course also describes the risk management process, covering the assessment of loss exposures and determining how to handle the daily risks that property managers encounter. You will learn about the insurance market, different types of insurance policies and the claims adjustment process. The course also covers equipment breakdown insurance, which is an area of growing concern for real estate managers.

Designed for building engineers, module topics include the properties of thermodynamics; chilled water systems; air cooled chillers; air handling systems; fans; direct expansion systems; heating systems; control systems; energy conservation; and applicable rules, regulations, standards and laws. The modules in this program may be taken out of sequence. Property Management 101 Explore the world of property management through Property Management 101, a five-day course taught over five weeks. This dynamic course combines classroom-style learning, interaction with industry professionals and behind-the-scenes tours of metro-Atlanta buildings. It is designed for assistant property and facility managers and others who are interested in expanding their knowledge of the industry. Class locations vary from class to class. Participants will be notified of location prior to class via email.

Property Management 201 Expand your knowledge of property management through Property Management 201, a five-day course taught over five weeks. It is designed for property and facility managers interested in expanding their knowledge of the industry and taking their career to the next level. This course is an excellent opportunity for PM 101 graduates and more experienced property professionals to become more proficient in the workplace. Seminars are held twice a year with different topics ranging from optimizing your HVAC system to electrical safety. Statewide Seminars BOMA Georgia has expanded its seminars to more markets outside of the Metro Atlanta area. These markets include Macon, Augusta and Savannah. With partners like the Green Chamber of the South, Southeast Green and the Council for Quality Growth, BOMA Georgia has been able to provide valuable educational topics that are relevant to the different markets they serve. Free Seminars BOMA Georgia always looks for ways to create value for its members. Every year the association offers free seminars to BOMA Georgia members. The Fall Free Seminar, is an annual seminar that explores topics and trends in Georgia’s commercial real estate industry. These seminars are free and open to any current BOMA Georgia member. Non-members can attend for $99. Specifically designed for BOMA Georgia allied members, the Allied Member Resource Group meets quarterly for a free seminar. The seminars explore specific topics related to either doing business or maximizing an allied member’s experience within BOMA Georgia. These seminars are always free for BOMA Georgia allied members. Non-members may attend at the non-member price of $50. Free seminars are a great way to maximize the value of your membership and return hundreds of dollars on your membership investment. Through this course, you will learn about climate control for human comfort, the components of HVAC systems, and the basics of water treatment and plumbing systems.
