Through this course, you will learn about climate control for human comfort, the components of HVAC systems, and the basics of water treatment and plumbing systems. You will gain the skills and knowledge to perform common water tests, maintain air-conditioning systems, maintain water services, and inspect portable fire extinguishers.
This course provides information property and facility managers need to manage the ongoing operation and maintenance of building systems and to maximize building efficiency and cost-effectiveness. It also provides information on building design and construction, project delivery, construction materials and HVAC systems. Other areas covered in the course include roofing systems, ceilings and floorings, interior walls and plumbing systems.
In 2018, the Building Engineering 101 course was overhauled and updated to better address the career path needs and technical skills required fro today’s building operations and management professional. Get the solid foundation in building engineering you need through Building Engineering 101™, a six-day course taught over six weeks. The course combines classroom-style learning, interaction with industry professionals, and behind-the-scenes tours of Metro-Atlanta buildings. You will develop the knowledge to establish procedures and standards for monitoring building operations, preventive maintenance, and cleaning. Building Engineering (BE 201) 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., April 13-27, Tuesdays and Thursdays Member Company: $369 | Non-member company: $419 For those with more experience and who have already take the 101 class, BOMA Georgia offer Building Engineering 201, a six-day course taught over six weeks. The course combines classroom-style learning, interaction with industry professionals and behind-the-scenes tours of Atlanta buildings. Learn from real-life scenarios while gaining an understanding of relevant building systems in a course specifically designed to teach building engineers how to be successful in their field. Sessions cover basic trade skills, preventative maintenance, risk management, fire and life safety, best practices for communications, and a better understanding of how important the building engineer’s role is to the overall success of the building. Commercial HVAC - Module 3 Date TBD Members: $645 | Non-Members: $745 Is Foundation scholarship eligible The continuing education course will enable both beginning and experienced engineers to become more proficient within a work environment. In addition to covering leasing, the course covers important issues concerning torts, contracts, employer/employee relations, property rights and environmental law. The course also describes the risk management process, covering the assessment of loss exposures and determining how to handle the daily risks that property managers encounter. The Georgia Real Estate Commission has approved this course for 24 hours of Continuing Education Units. Property Management 201 Course Begins April 13 Member Companies: $599 | Non-member Companies: $699 Property Management 201 is the next step for individuals who have completed PM 101 or who have more experience in the property management field. This five-day course is taught over five consecutive weeks and includes information about accounting and reporting, leasing and marketing, risk management, emergency planning and management skills. Real Estate Investment and Finance Course Is Foundation scholarship eligible 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., October 6-8 Members: $1,099 | Non-members: $1,319 Through this course, you will learn to take charge of real estate investments in order to maximize the value of a property. You will develop knowledge about basic financial concepts as they relate to real estate, including valuation, analysis, taxation, depreciation and lifecycle costing. Similarly, you will learn to evaluate real estate investments and to develop budgets that estimate net operating income. You will study the income capitalization approach and cover property taxation costs and strategies to offset these costs. You will also gain the skills to conduct discounted cash flow analysis and calculate net present value and internal rate of return. This course features exercises that require the basic use of the HP-10Bii financial calculator. 2021 BOMA Georgia Tour of Buildings 1-4:30 p.m., October 20 Members: $50 | Non-members: $65 Learn more about the diversity of commercial real estate by touring three unique buildings. Free Seminars BOMA Georgia always looks for ways to create value for its members. Every year the association offers free seminars to BOMA Georgia members. The Fall Free Seminar, is an annual seminar that explores topics and trends in Georgia’s commercial real estate industry. These seminars are free and open to any current BOMA Georgia member. Non-members can attend for $99. Specifically designed for BOMA Georgia allied members, the Allied Member Resource Group meets quarterly for a free seminar. Raises funds for the BOMA Georgia Foundation through securing volunteers and donations for foundation fundraising events, promoting lobby events and electronic recycling donations, as well as individual and corporate giving to the Foundation. Meets as needed throughout the year.
Government Affairs Committee
Monitors, studies and recommends policy and advocacy strategies on legislative and regulatory matters that affect the commercial real estate industry. Meets throughout the year, most heavily during the state legislative session at the beginning of each year.
Membership Committee
Plans and conducts the ongoing membership recruitment and retention programs of the association. This committee is also responsible for implementing new member engagement strategies. Meets four to five times per year.
Industry Insight Committee
Exercises think-tank and brainstorming exercises throughout the year to assist in the development of programming and editorial content for the association. Meets throughout the year.
Sports Outing Committee
Plans and conducts the annual BOMA Georgia Sports Outing, which includes a golf and tennis tournament. Meets several times from June through October of each year.
TOBY Judging Committee
Plans and conducts the activities leading to the selection of The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards, including the Earth Award. Meets one time in December or January of each year.
