Deeply flawed chief detective Carl Morck used to be a very good homicide detective.

He works for the Copenhagan police force but was recently shot alongside two colleagues who were not so lucky. One died and one is now paralyzed from his neck downwards. Carl, who did not draw his weapon, blames himself. So promotion is the last thing Carl expects.

But it all becomes clear when he sees his new office in the basement. Carl’s been selected to run Department Q, a new special Investigations Division that turns out to be a department of 1. With a stack of cold cases to keep him company, Carl’s been put out to pasture. So he is as surprised as anyone when a case actually catches his interest. A missing politician vanished without trace 5 years earlier. The world assumes she is dead. But she isn’t dead ……yet!

Mercy is book 1 of the Department Q series by this Danish author.
