RESEARCH SPECIFICATION Italian style is one of the top styles of world fashion, and it always was an amazing inspiration for my personal aesthetics, design preferences or style in general. I am talking about the fashion, but also the food, Italian cinema, the places. In country where police uniforms are designed by Giorgio Armani, it is not surprising that the woman love to look sexy and chic and is very important to them to notice them on the streets. Searching for information I have found lots of the articles, guides and tips, online and in the magazines: “How to dress like Italians”, “The secrets of Italians style”, “Italian style icos”, “How to archive that effortless elegance” etc. With my work I will try to proof my believes about Italians and their sense of fashion, but also a common opinion of many people in the world, chasing their style; and to give a great inspiration on the next pages of my document for all fashion followers.
I’ve looked into the history, heritage and philosophies of the most famous Italian fashion brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Prada or Giorgio Armani. But also less global brands, more regional and local people of fashion, designers and tailors. I did analised the most popular motifs and colours on the Italian streets, like amazing blues, stripes or laces. I’ve presented the most iconic people from Italian fashion industry, but also a great Italian style icons, like Sophia Loren, controversial Lapo Elkann, or Andrea Pirlo - a football icon. Very reliable and inspiring moments of my work I guess would be placing many quotes and thoughts about Italy and Italians. Very interesting, modern and very up to date source of the information I have found for my project is the work (espacially fashion photography) of The Sartolialist - Scott Schuman, a famous American men’s blogger, for who I believe, Italy and Italian fashion became extremely beloved during last years.
Italians definitely believing in visual power and elegance. Quite obviously opinion about the Italians is that they look after how they look, what they eat, where they spend time. So follow this I’ve search for the most beautiful, favourite and fashionable for Italians places. To presents the biggest influences of the Italians creators, temptation of the sun and sea for instance. I had a chance to talk with Italian fashionist from Milan - Manuela, who gave to my work a doze of live interaction with fashion world, and the first hand informations too. Also my questionary which I made among the young Italians living in London, is a worthful sort of informations for my work, I believe.

About the Italians, their style and Lapo Elkann…
With Manuela - fashionist from Milan, I had a telephone chat early afternoon on Monday, January. Manuela, responsible through 15 years of her career for direction and managing for a top level Italian fashion brands, currently shearing her time and duties working for FENDI, preparing for the next week the latest men’s campaign and being happy mother for her first child.
MANUELA NASTI January 2015
What makes in your feeling Italian fashion interesting, different? In first - “Know- how” Italian fashion is all about the history. The second thing is huge fashion market with own fashion ethics. Italians know how to cut the fabrics, how to tailor. The power of each great brand in Italy, is a ‘core’ item. Own, very special construction of the clothe. And for instance MaxMara is famous from her coats, but if you look for a best fur go to FENDI. What interesting is that all big brands respect it between each other; well there is a massive competition, however everyone is looking for own qualities.
6
What is main attitude of Italian woman? I guess each stylish Italian woman has evergreen, everlasting fashionable piece, what makes her feel chic and distinguish. I guess there is a key. Apart of the wallet - there is a kind of must have for Italians. They love that. I would say is their heritage and proud. So you would find in their wardrobe a brand good tailored dress, stylish Prada bag, or expensive bracelet.
The most fashionable Italian? Anna Dello Russo, for someone still undisputed Sophia Loren. However the Italian actresses and public persons preferences in choosing their clothes are much less ‘double’ and prominent. Italian might be prefer to avoid evident last vibrant high street trends to choose rather classy, quality product of Loro Piana or Malo.
The situation is a bit different with footballers - mostly go for patent, trendy things.
…Lapo Elkann? well, that’s controversial person for Italians. The time when his girlfriend was Martina Stella, Lapo he was taken aa s appropriate behaviour man, well for day after treated through the fact of being son of Angnelli, his grandfather, grandmother and Fiat too. After the embarrassed situations, all his scandals he moved to New York, to back again after some time metamorphosed, with his Italia Independent sunglasses, which became quick strong Italian brand worldwide. He started dating with Goga Ashkenazi the first woman oligarch of fashion and still working on his look.. What is worth to admit Lapo has a great taste in fashion and always has a beautiful woman around.

ITALIAN DOLCE VITA
By DOLCE&GABBANA La Dolce Vita - “the sweet life “, “the life of pleasure”, “a life of heedless pleasure and luxury”, “the good life”... there are many translations and meanings. This phrase entered the language following the success of the 1960 film La Dolce Vita of Federico Fellini. In Dolce & Gabbana campaigns, colourful, full of splendor and action we would find probably the all meanings of Dolce Vita. So there are numerous family, there are friends, neighbours, always atractive women even mourning a death, but beautiful in their own way, good looking men, wonderful clothes, the sun, the sea, tasty food, regional music, a laught, dance, sometimes on the tabletop in the piazza; but also a cry, weepers or scream ... but always elegance.

THE SARTOLIALIST ABOUT THE ITALIAN GIRLS
“There is a charming respect and aspiration to the classic standards of femininity and beauty. The concept of being bourgeois is not something the Italian woman fights against but something she likes to redefine in a modern setting.” - Scott Schuman, the Sartolialist.
“Most of young Italian girls have a wardrobe a quarter of the size of typical young American girl. They don’t throw money at fashion and have not adopted the fast fashion new-wardrobe every week approach that seems to be swallowing the rest of the world.” - Scott Schuman, the Sartolialist.

LUCIANO BARBERRA ABOUT THE STYLE
“It’s not enough to have beautiful clothes. Lots of people have beautiful clothes. In fact, some people have too many. What is important is what you do with them.”
The Jacket Luciano Barbera since launching his own label in 1971, has become famous across the world as the arbiter of refined gentleman and “classic original bespoke Italian style”. His brand provided a fine fabrics for Ralph Lauren and Armani, and himself became well-known as a fastidious designer of handmade men’s cashmere, wool suits, linen shirts, high-end silk ties, textured coats.
A jacket tells the world you are open to fun. Suit tells the world you are ready for business. For me the ideal jacket should have soft and natural lines and balanced proportions. It should fit you but not constrict you.
Trousers “There are many schools on trouser length. (...) I do not want to see your socks, but I do want to see your shoes.”
The Shirt “I know I have said you can have too many clothes. But I take that back where shirts are concerned. The shirt is a triumph of modern life, like the automobile or the web. It is easy to put on and take off, quick to wash and easy to store. Plus, shirts look great.
A man should own as many shirts as he wishes - the more the better. (...) Having lots of shirts will allow you to surprise yourself with your own good taste.”
The Tie “The tie follows the culture. In the 50s I wore a bow tie. In the 60s I tied a Windsor. In the 70s I went opennecked. In the 80s I had a big aggressive knot that said, do not mess with me. Now I find that what I want is a less-fussed-over-knot with a soft pleating. It is simple. It is declarative. It feels right. How will I wear my tie in the next decade? Who knows? Ask me then.”
Seasonal “Everyone knows you wear wool in the winter, linen in the summer, and a straw hat from June 15th to Labor Day. Everyone is right. And there in lies the problem. Follow these rules and you will look like everyone else. Better that you display a little originality. On the gravest days of winter I put on my gray flannels, a cashmere tie in a sober color and my white linen jacket. The pants keep me warm. The tie gains me entrée into good restaurants. The blazer reminds me that summer will come again.”

LOVING COLOURS MILAN FASHION
I think there is something absolutely beatiful to identify with colours, especially to emphasize your nationality in certain, original way. I saying to all fashion fans, ladies and men, who are looking for a power clothes. I do adore a ladies fashion lovers from Milan, who might be created an own discreet and independent style, apart of the main trends from the catwalk. I believe that football and colours of the favourite teams would be an amazing inspiration for more fashion designers and to inspire a mode general. Someone would ask how about Lacoste or Benetton? I would say I am convinced ... a sport clothes, or clothes inspired a life sports games – there is still kind of undiscover field in mass fashion I believe.

“I don’t believe in good taste and then created a demure pastel suit for a princess.” - said Gianni With his clothes Gianni showed the whole world a new vision of fashion, taking all stereotypes of vulgarity and giving then a new meaning. Asymetrical cuts, siren dresses, layering, draping, optical design, metallic mesh, using apparenly improbable combinations of fabrics, colors and prints, plunging necklines and miniskirts, sheath dresses, gaudy accessories are some of Versace’s aestethic “inventions” that have become his trademark. He was also one of the first designers to totally reinvent certain materials, and explored again previously forgotten combinations such a leather and silk, jute and gold, metallic mesh and faux gems. His work was also mainly in the service of a feminine aestethic. In 90s he’s added another clothing line Versus.

QUESTIONARY January 2015 To support my work I made a simple questionary, with 11 questions, among young Italians living in London. Young people ( age 25-33 ) with different interests I suppose, looking for a new experiences, maybe a new life path in new country; working in different professions, maybe even in their first jobs in England I believe. So I have a students and people working in retail, fashion, but also coffeemakers, baristas, and doing kitchen works too. The results of my questionary wasn’t very surprised for me, however what was noticeable, and maybe it was connected straigh with the current econominc situation of Italy, for many of them fashion and Italian appearances, fashion heritage is not important in their life at all, their answears I took a little sarcastic with a doze of acid asking about the famous Italian style. So, on the question: ”What means to you be stylish in Italian way?” I had the answears “I am not fashion follower” or “I don’t really know” ...
On the question about “The most fashionable Italian”, undisputed, the most often repeating name was a name of Sophia Loren. A men’s representative was Valentino.
WOMAN
MAN
Sophia Loren Monica Belluci Anna dello Russo Margetita Missoni Olivia Palermo
Valentino Lapo Elkan n Pierfrancesco Favino Andrea Pirlo Paolo Bonolis
On the question about Italians attitudes, majority was the answear: “Friendly people”. Then “Natural outgoing personalities”, “polite”. In terms of the Lapo Elkann question, most of them ascribed straight his person to famous Angnelli family and his scandals from the past. In regards to the fashionalbe Italian places, interviewee described Sicily as a island of history, as a centre of the Sicilian mafia, known as Cosa Nostra but beautiful place for holidays, ...unfortunately still with wrong administration.
Milan -what was clearly shows in my questionary, is still for Italians city of fashion, busy one, and perfect for shopping.

CONCLUSIONS Italian definitely believing in visual power and elegance. “La bella figura” Italian style it might be unmistakable. Italian style is much more eclectic then many people come to assume, with regional nuances, characteristic local taste. Defining Italian style we’re often think what is Italin chic. Mostly that means for many of us elegance, femininity, or being handsome, it’s very often about the great proportion of clothes, slim lines, and silhouette. So the secrets of Italians style: 1. Fit, 2. Colour, 3. Fabric. Looking for Dolce & Gabbana campaings, no matter what, Italians might be look good always, everyday, not only for a special occasions.
