t’s hard to believe that Bonnier Zaffre has only been publishing for eighteen months and it is a tribute to our talented authors that so many have achieved so much in so short a time – as you can see from the list of bestsellers and awards opposite. We are delighted that our forthcoming publishing programme includes second – and in some cases third – novels from authors who have been with us from the very beginning, but excited, too, to be introducing new names to the list. 2018 marks a step change for our publishing with the arrival of the world’s bestselling epic novelist Wilbur Smith, whose remarkable memoirs we publish in June. The eagerly anticipated sequel to his phenomenal War Cry will follow in the autumn. The success of Lynda La Plante’s Good Friday will be followed by the fourth in the Jane Tennison thriller series, Murder Mile, and we will also be publishing a revised version of her groundbreaking classic Widows, ahead of the Steve McQueen film of the same name. Acclaimed author Harry Sidebottom joins us with his pulse-racing thriller The Last Hour – 24 set in Ancient Rome – as do seasoned crime writers Martyn Waites and J. S. Carol. Celebrated vlogger Louise Pentland, whose debut Wilde Like Me stormed the bestseller lists in 2017, confirms her status as a major new fiction talent with her second novel, and Anton Du Beke, best-loved star of Strictly Come Dancing, proves his phenomenal abilities extend beyond the ballroom with his enchanting first novel due next autumn. Our year begins with a truly remarkable book. Shared with our sister company Echo, part of Bonnier Publishing Australia, The Tattooist of Auschwitz tells a heartbreaking story of love and survival. It speaks of the very best of humanity in the very worst of circumstances and is not easily forgotten. We are proud to be publishing it. Yours sincerely,

Kate Parkin Executive Director, Adult Fiction

The Tattooist of Auschwitz HEATHER MORRIS Heartbreaking, human, inspirational. For readers of Schindler’s List and The Man Who Broke into Auschwitz This novel is based on the true story behind one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust – the blue numbers tattooed on prisoners’ arms. When Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, was given the job of tattooist in Auschwitz, he used his infinitesimal freedom of movement to help keep fellow victims alive. If caught, he would have been killed; many prisoners owed him their survival. Terrible though this story is, it is also one of hope, of courage – and of love. Waiting in line to be tattooed, was a terrified and shaking young girl. For Lale it was love at first sight, and he was determined he and Gita would survive. Their story, fact-checked against all available documentary evidence and untold for over seventy years, will make you weep, but will also uplift you. It shows the very best of humanity in the very worst of circumstances. HOME • £12.99 • HB • 9781785763649 EXPORT • £12.99 • TPB • 9781785763656

On Leopard Rock WILBUR SMITH The first ever memoirs from the Number One global bestselling adventure author From being attacked by lions to close encounters with deadly reef sharks, from getting lost in the African bush without water to crawling the precarious tunnels of gold mines, from marlin fishing with Lee Marvin to near death from crash-landing a Cessna airplane, from brutal school days to redemption through writing and falling in love, Wilbur Smith tells us the intimate stories of his life that have been the raw material for his fiction. Always candid, sometimes hilarious, and never less than thrillingly entertaining, On Leopard Rock is testament to a writer whose life is as rich and eventful as his novels are compellingly unputdownable. £20.00 • HB • 9781785765308

‘I’ve been writing novels for over fifty years. I was lucky enough to miss the big wars and not get shot, but lucky enough to grow up among the heroes who had served in them and learn from their example. I have lucked into things continuously. I have done things which have seemed appalling at the time, disastrous even, but out of them have come another story or a deeper knowledge of human character and the ability to express myself better on paper, write books which people enjoy reading. Along the way, I have lived a life that I could never have imagined. I have been privileged to meet people from all corners of the globe, I have been wherever my heart has desired and in the process my books have taken readers to many, many places. I always say I’ve started wars, I’ve burned down cities, and I’ve killed hundreds of thousands of people – but only in my imagination!’
