Self Evaluation Through these past two years of taking journalism and being on staff I have learned so many great things. When I was a sophomore I decided to take journalism because I thought it was a great way to learn new things about the computer programs we use, and also I knew I would want to take yearbook. That class taught me a lot about how a yearbook comes all together. This year I’ve learned that being patient is very important, there’s more than just myself that has questions so I have to learn to wait my turn, being able to discipline yourself about turning stuff in on time is really helpful because if you don’t then you’ll never get stuff done on time. Being able to work with my classmates is great, because you can ask questions and get better ideas, with working with two brains instead of one. I was dedicated to all my deadlines which helps you because if you aren’t then you won’t really care and that means your grade suffers and so does the book, by being dedicated you can be proud of your book and all your pages that you have worked so hard on. I will use these skills in the future because now I know what an important asset they are to completing my pages. I was an asset to this staff this year because I was able to complete my pages so the book would be ready, I also was able to help other staffers by doing interviews or taking pictures for them when they needed my help. Like the day Morgan and Avery needed me to take pictures of Kyle for the art page, I was able to do that for them which enabled them to be able to get there pictures turned into Madison on time. Commitment was very important. I learned that being able to be committed you had to stay after school on some days and staying really late even if you were tired to work on your pages, come to work days when I could be doing other things in my free time and work very hard to be able to stay on deadline time and going to sporting events or just events in general to get pictures or stats about a game that day, even if it wasn’t the most interesting thing, like when I had to go take pictures of golf in the heat of Florida, now those things are what I call commitment.
Reflection 1 I could not explain how happy I am with how the water polo page turned out. Sara and I stumbled over things, but in the end we made a great page, with many good memories. I chose this piece to be my most significant one because the story is extremely entertaining and filled with facts. The dominant just catches your eye when you open in the page. This is my best work because we were actually on time and even ahead for turning stuff in to get graded. The page just overall pulls me in and I think that’s why I love it so much. I think we had a couple of difficult parts throughout trying to put this together. The story was very hard to grab the right angle on to it, we kept o switching it up which was hard in the end for us. The pictures were also difficult because trying to shoot a water sport isn’t the easiest, I was surprised with the pictures and how some of them came out because they were a lot better then what I imagined them too be like. During the process I noticed how we zoomed past a couple of people when we got graded, because we finally realized everything that went together so it was a lot easier to get graded. Also picking out all of our pictures first was super helpful because then you write captions right away, then go get graded. Working with another classmate that had another mind set like me, I noticed to seem to be a lot easier. We both wanted the same things for our pages and helped each other out to make sure we were proud of our page. Talking to our editors and EIC’s made it a lot easier, we got to get their help on what to write or how to re-word stuff in order to make the story come together. They really helped during the grading process cause they fully explained what we need to do to fix our page to get it to where it is now. I’m honestly just pleased with our page and I honestly could care less if any other kid at our school doesn’t like it, because I know the hours and the hard work and effort put into that page to look the way it does now. I really just love the dominant, there’s just something about it, it’s so clear and such a good angle with two kids in the photo. I feel like if your looking at the picture you sometimes just feel like you’re apart of the team because of the emotions that you can just see pouring out of that image. The whole page finally just looks great and looking back on the other water polo pages, I realize that ours is so much better which makes me tens times just as happy. Getting re-subbed by Copy was difficult and super annoying but now I have a better understanding of why she does what she does, and I’m honestly okay with that because of the way that she helped us our page would have not looked the same. I also particularly liked that we had action shots on our page, not just pictures of them just hanging out in the water, it’s like great action shots that show you their emotion which is draws you in even more to read the story. Which I highly recommend, because that story is great.
Reflection 2 Y15: Pg. 37 I feel this piece has a good angle on where he is swinging the club.
Y18: Pg. 79 This picture has a good depth of field and shows you what he is doing.
Y17: Pg. 125 This picture
just draws your eyes to it. It also shows creativity.

This is a great action picture because she is still but the ball is in motion, also it’s a rule of thirds.
Leading lines is applied in this picture, also repetition because they are all doing the same thing.
This picture has good depth of field, it focuses on what she is doing and makes the blurry background. The paint brushes give it good leading lines.
