If the position is still open, I would propose considering me; I am hardworking, dedicated and devoted to making next year’s yearbook spectacular. I have worked on the yearbook previously and to accompany this my resume, which will further show my qualifications and strengths. Multiple times throughout the year I have gone to games and shot for others, I have skills working with nikon and canon cameras as well as experience. Also I have worked and shadowed under the current photo editor and gained much knowledge of the tasks and responsibilities undertaken as an editor. Last year I gained a vast amount of experience with Adobe software, such as InDesign and Photoshop. I have learned how much work goes into such an important book and helped others throughtout the year, in order to ensure the quality of our yearbook. Every successful yearbook involves a great amount of team effort, I am willing to dedicate my time to assist our team more and to meet all the needs of our editors. I feel so humbled to be apart of the 2011 yearbook staff, thank you for considering me as a candidate to become the upcoming year’s photo editor. PERSONAL ESSAY
Journalism is not only a way for memories to be documented, but it also displays the
emotion and memories felt by all students as they have grown and learned throughout the school year. I myself have grown greatly as a person by being on staff this year. I have gained real life experience, improved in time management and can now much more effectively work with a partner.
I’ve always had an inclination towards journalism; in middle school I was apart of
yearbook and always loved writing and photography. Much more grown since then, I’ve learned my passion is photography and by participating in journalism my skills and experience are only increasing. To reach my goal this year I had to overcome many hurdles; I went through many trials to succeed this year. An arduous school schedule, a heavy workload, numerous family dilemmas, and underdevelopment in some skills necessary to succeed in journalism all held me back this year. Despite those difficulties I grew as a journalist and more importantly as a person.
SELF ANALYITICAL
This year I learned a lot about yearbook ethics, procedures, production skills and a great
deal about myself. In my first deadline on staff I worked with a partner and realized not only how demanding and how much work went into a page in yearbook, but also how necessary teamwork is in yearbook. Teamwork and dedication is a lifelong skill that will not only help me for school, but for the rest of my life. Dedication is used in any goal and must be used had to achieve your goals. Teamwork is a necessary skill for all aspects of life: in friendships, college, projects and in future jobs. As far as ethics go, I learned on the Girls Varsity Swim page that you can’t flip pictures and that it’s very difficult to identify someone on the swim page when they all wear swim caps, goggles, and identical uniforms.
REFLECTION ONE
I believe that for my Parent Booster Club page I did my best independant work. I worked
with doing mostly phone interviews and had to work around the parent’s busy schedules in order to get good quotes for my page. It was difficult not being able to just go to their third period and finding members involved with the club, but because I persevered and kept working, I finished my page and did an accurate and creative job. The pictures all go together and even with a whole page of body copy I finished and that is why I believe it’s my best work.
REFLECTION TWO
Already been pictured, too much white space, need real statistics and better quote, wrong
tenses, clean up graphics for press; all were edits I corrected while working on the varsity girls’ swimming page. I believe this piece could use more work, I worked on the pictures and captions independently, though when it came to body copy I had many resubmits and never did a good enough job. I regret that I never did a good enough job, and that consequently the body copy was taken over. In the aspect of photography, there are unique angles in pictures, underwater shots, and I overcame many obstacles to get good photos. I learned to take a sequence shot and by working on this page I learned all about using photographs from online sources. The piece changed greatly from start to finish, many changes and edits were completed, though if I was given the chance I would go back and rewrite the body copy once again. It was unfair that an editor was given the job of writing my piece, that is no editor’s job and I greatly needed to step up during that time and I never did. I have matured and grown much as a journalist from this experience. I know that if I were put in this spot again, I would be able to write my own body copy successfully and independently.
REFLECTION Three I am extremely proud of this photograph because of the simplicty and unique angle of the subject. The leading lines in the silk and naturalistic lighting bring our the purple in her eye makeup and on the swirls of her suit. The light highlights and casts a shadow on the ribbon and on the subject in a way that is artistic and breathtaking.

REFLECTION four
On the 2011 staff I helped those who needed assistance, gave advice, kept Sehar positive, and completed
all my pages. I was extremely dedicated this year; I came to every workday and did whatever I could to help on the book. This year I COB-ed, cropped, renamed, re-linked, re-sized and took pictures for friends who needed my help. I did whatever I could this year to be a team player and remain a positive member of yearbook, and on reflecting on this year I believe I succeeded.
REFLECTION FIVE
I faced many hardships this year with family issues, a very heavy workload and getting used to the time
dedications and routine of being on staff. I was a new staffer and didn’t take journalism I my last year, therefore I had no idea how to use any Adobe products, how to interview, quote, and the proper procedure of writing and formatting photos. I was forced to be a quick learner and thanks to the editors help I got through my deadlines with minimal pain. By going through this year I’ve become a much better journalist and now I appreciate the job of being an editor so much more. I know how hard it is being a newcomer to yearbook and because of this year I now will do whatever I can to help the new staffers next year.
REFLECTION SIX
After my first semester of the year, I believed the worst flaw I needed to overcome was my extended
procrastination during deadlines. Procrastination made my life difficult and in order to succeed I realiezed that I needed to resolve my time management issues. I put my mind to it and throughout the second semester I improved exponentially, got my work done and with that my life got much less stressful. It wasn’t as hard as I expected to get out of my trend in procrastination. If you just stick to the grading sheet and turn in all your work in on time, you won’t fall behind and get stressed. That is very common knowledge but it’s very hard to stay caught up when you get behind. From this year I have learned life lessons that will help me greatly next year and later on in life.
REFLECTION SEVEN Y15. This photo has an unexpected and interesting angle and view; also it shows an interesting perspective of swimming. It was taken using an underwater camera and her arm leads you to her face, which is in focus. The water flying also shows the action of this photograph and shows its intensity. Y17. Sam Graham sings his heart out during a Braveaid performance. This photograph captures the strong emotions being felt at this moment and the drummer frames Sam giving the photograph better composition. Y17. Sydney Garlich hangs posed upside down during her aerial silk performance. The simplicity and lighting is breathtaking, she seems to glow as the light hits her dramatic makeup and white suit.
