April 27, 2012 Janice Manager The Puppy Stop 2515 East Colnial Drive Orlando, FL 32803 Dear Ms. Janice, Seeing as the store has recently received new management, I took interest in how great the environment was on my first visit. I would like to be part of such an environment. If interested in having a committed volunteer to help with any needs of your store please consider my assistance. As a current dog owner, I know how to work with animals and take care of their needs. I have been a dog sitter for a few years and love their presence. I enjoy doing whatever it is to ensure a happy dog. I am patient when an animal acts up or decides to chew on everything in sight. When I first got my dog, as a puppy, she was not potty trained or even trained for that matter. I looked up ways to help her learn what she needed to, also learning a few things myself. I am willing to put the time and effort into anything to benefit the puppies. Although I have attached my resume, I feel a personal interview would better demonstrate my abilities. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you at a convenient time. Thank you for your review and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Respectfully yours,

Jennifer Dunn Enclosed: resume

Personal Essay

Journalism is something I feel takes a lot of work in order to produce a finished product worth something. If effort is not put forth it is probably noticeable three out of four times. It was my Sophomore year and I saw a class I had never even heard of before called ‘Journalism 1’. I think I might have even tried to switch out of it, but boy am I glad I didn’t. To succeed there are many elements needed; procrastination not being one of them. Hard work, time consumption and determination are only part of what it takes. Drive must be there, as well as passion. Compared to most Yearbook and Newspaper staffers what I have done is pretty insignificant. I do always try to set my mind to doing the work and write good, eyecatching stories. I bring my best and try as hard as I can. I can’t say I am ready to take on all of the responsibilities that come when taking on positions such as being a part of yearbook/newspaper. I am not too sure what’s in store for me next year but no matter what happened I could not be more thankful for everything Mrs. Burke has done for me.

Self-analytical Essay

During Mass Media I have learned many skills and there is still knowledge to be absorbed. I have gained experience with working in Photoshop and have become more familiar with its tools. I am almost positive I can cobb without any direction, which is a big deal from what I started with this year. I have worked together well with others and learned a lot about teamwork; never let a partner or yourself slack off. Do your job! Procrastination is constantly a struggle of mine and Mass Media has taught me the importance of a deadline. Not only is it important for your grade to turn in things on time, but for Highlights as well. Also keeping my word when I said I was held accountable for it. I might not have liked it then and there but thinking back I am very thankful to have been blessed with a teacher like Mrs. Burke. She is constantly reminding us of our duties and always pushes our abilities to the fullest, I love that. Maybe not then and there, but looking back it makes me appreciative. In the future I can honestly say everything that I have learned will be to my advantage. Basic writing structure and knowing how to use computer programs will be a great skill for college. In life there are deadlines all the time and now I know how to manage my time better.

REFLection 1

My most significant work for publications this year would be my Project X movie review. I remember thinking I did not want to turn it in because I thought it was in need of some TLC. But to my surprise, when I got it back from Mark he had written a positive note; it was great so far. That made me feel accomplished and made the time that was put into it completely worth it. I added more to the review and felt proud. I actually turned in an assignment on time and actually liked it. The purpose of my review was to let everyone that wanted to know if Project X had lived up to it expectations. Well, it did and all the hype was true. It was not too difficult to write the review seeing as I had just watched the movie and everything was still fresh in my mind. What I like about my review is being able to inform peers at my school what I, a person of their age, thought about the movie. The difference between the rough draft and final draft is not very significant. I added a picture and a few more details, not too hard.

REFLection 2

The piece I chose that could still use some work was my Baking Braves story. The purpose of what I my story was to inform students what Baking Braves was and when/where meetings were. I’m almost ashamed looking at my rough draft what I though was acceptable to turn in to Mark. I will admit I made this task seem way harder than it actually was, but that is no excuse for my three word quote. It took me forever to find a picture that worked because I had to skip the meeting, where pictures should have been captured, due to sports. I should have given myself more time to complete this assignment and put more thought into it. When writing a piece for the web I would never want to put anything up that did not show all of the hard work that is involved with Hilights. I left out many details and kept it as short as possible. Looking back I would have approached this way differently giving myself enough time to write the story the way it should have been written. My story was also late which takes points away from my grade, that would have been different next time around as well.

REFLection 3 picture 1

I am extremely proud of this picture because this was my second time ever shooting sports and my first time around was not too successful. I feel this picture has good lighting and great action. The expression on his face is what attracts me to it. He looks like he is putting everything he has to make sure this pitch is a strike.

REFLection 3 picture 2

I decided to select this picture because I think it is a great action shot. It has rule of thirds, depth of field and it fills the frame. It was really difficult to keep the action looking still and clear and that is why I am proud of this picture.

REFLection 3 picture 3

I am obsessed with this picture because I think it shows awesome lighting and also includes the ball. Hopefully from this picture one can infer the pitch was a strike cause the batter to swing and miss. It also has depth of field and rule of thirds.

REFLection 4

I was an asset to the 2011-2012 Hilights.org staff by constantly trying to push myself. For some reason projects/tasks that seem a little more than I can handle are put to the back burner. I always tried to motivate myself and most of the time got the job done. I went to events, took pictures, kept the student body updated with many sporting tweets. Mrs. Burke had mentioned to me that we had received an e-mail thanking whoever tweeted a district baseball game, which is apparently not a common thing. was old if an e-mail is sent in reply to something, it is to complain, not thank. I tried to better my writing for the web and received some ‘good jobs’ from Mark along the way. I sacrificed a lot of time to make sure my part was finished, even if staying after school was the only option.

REFLection 5

Throughout this year I have been faced with many problems and hardships, mainly from my worst enemy; procrastination. During the third semester we were all assigned a slide show and I chose to do mine on Marvin Bracy. It seemed like a fairly simple task but I ended up being overwhelmed with makeup work last semester. I was given another chance and accepted to try at it again. My interview has been accomplished but the rest is a different story. Waiting until the last semester was a terrible idea considering I did not think there could be any problems with getting video or pictures. Now, almost the last three weeks of school, the soundslide is still incomplete because it needed to be converted in order to be uploaded. That was a task within itself. I learned from this situation that even if I feel I can not take anymore on my plate, in the end I would be thankful I did. Procrastination would not have gotten the best of me and it would probably already have been completed.

REFLection 6

For the midterm I wrote about how I needed to be more productive. I wrote that I needed to be punctual more often and try to put my procrastination to a stop. I truly think I have made improvements towards this. Of course, there can always be room for improvement, but I think there is a significant difference. I used to be so lazy that I would never put too much thought behind my work. I now have learned not to wait until the absolute last minute to try and squeeze in everything, including all the little details that one would like. It is nearly impossible and can be so stressful. I have tried to give myself enough time to complete my assignments the way I like them. I remember I used to come in on the absolute last day grades could be turned in and beg Mrs. Burke if she would allow me to turn in just a few more assignments. That has drastically been changed and I am very proud of myself.

DM12. SPORTS NEWS “Close loss against DP http://hilights.org/archives/6961 I chose this story to represent me because I feel it explains the important details in the game and when they occurred. I feel the reader does not have to waste any time and get straight to the highlights of the game.

DM5. IN-DEPTH NEWS/FEATURE STORY http://hilights.org/archives/5952 I feel this picture has good lighting and great action. The expression on his face is what attracts me to it. He looks like he is putting everything he has to make sure this pitch is a strike.

DM5. IN-DEPTH NEWS/FEATURE STORY http://hilights.org/archives/5952 I chose this piece to represent me because there are so many scholarship opportunities that many students are unaware of. By writing this story I was able to let them see just how easy applying for one can be. There are only a few shown, but there are links that help students find more.
