Dear Jeff Revels, Artistic Director Orlando Repertory Theatre 1001 E. Princeton St. As Marketing Director for the Orlando Repertory Theatre, I will work to the best of my ability to advertise the theater’s shows, camps and events. I will accomplish this with my ideas of working to reach the whole city using a variety of methods such as brochures, billboards, social media, posters etc. I would also add my skill and knowledge of photography to create photo illustrations in different areas of print to promote the theater’s shows. I believe I am qualified for this position as I’ve worked as a staffer at Boone High School’s awardwinning Legend yearbook. I’ve improved as a designer, writer and photographer through my work in the publication. I am a Adobe Certified Associate in Visual Communication using Adobe Photoshop. My knowledge base also expands into other Adobe programs including InDesign and Bridge. I served as Boone High School Theatre Department’s Social Media Manager. I promoted the department’s productions “I Saw You Scream Last Friday the 13th on Elm Street, In and Out of Love: A Musical Theatre Cabaret, and The Addams Family through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and various Internet advertisements. My publicity worked successful as Addams Family missed selling out opening night and Saturday night by ten and fifteen seats respectively and sold out Friday night. They had to turn away approximately 100 people. Regardless of the facts on my resume, I think an interview would better allow myself to portray my personality and passion to my art. I would really appreciate to have the chance to meet you at your earliest convenience. Thank you for reviewing my enclosed resume. I look forward to meeting with you soon to discuss my interest in the theatre. Respectively yours,

Kevin Figueroa

I was not the most valuable asset to Legend for the 20142015 school year. I only made one of six deadlines last year. It took me a long time to figure out what I was doing and I didn’t know how to push myself to work harder. I lacked design skills and I fell short in my photography, failing in the most basic of tasks. The only skill I performed moderately at was writing. However, this year, I challenged and pushed myself to become a better journalist and hard worker in my publication. I started with going to Camp Orlando for journalism. I took the Photo 2 class on my adviser’s suggestion. I had an amazing teacher who taught me his knowledge of photography. I forgot his name but he worked as a photographer for the Chicago Bulls and he inspired me to work harder as a journalist. Ever since that class, I never had a trouble while taking pictures. The quality of my pictures improved drastically. I ended up with a total of ten pictures in the book, an increase of last year where I only had two pictures. I had one dominant picture on the Presentations spread along with another one of my pictures. One of the pictures made it on a theme page, showcasing my improvement. My weakest element is still designing. Although, this year I was tasked to come up with three modular elements to use in the book. Although none of them ended up in the book, it was nice to create three items to gain some experience. I designed three of my six spreads and I believe they represent me well because I actually enjoyed designing the pages and they represent how far I’ve come as a designer. My strongest suit is writing. I’ve improved significantly as a writer since last year. My copy editor only re-subbed me twice the whole year. I was one of the only people she re-subbed minimally. My significant piece of writing was my triple feature story on my “I’ve Got That Summertime Madness” spread. I received an All Florida Scholastic Press Association award for Best Body Copy. I felt like I wrote about something that people never read about and showed how much growth I’ve endured since my first deadline on my publication staff. This piece represents me as a journalist. I’ve also become more social with the people of my publication. I broke down my introvert barrier and had random conversations with them. I feel really honored that I met some of my closest friends through my publication this year.

I chose this piece as my reflection one because I felt like it represented my establishment as a journalist. The content I covered varied greatly and I believe it accomplished my goal of creating a new way of seeing summer. To begin with, I was still pretty weak at designing and I didn’t have much experience with the theme. The headline fit weird, I had a random poll above it and the overall layout was too vertical. Eventually, I had to ask my section editor who was in charge of me to help me with the design. She helped me with some content, especially on what to keep on the page. My editor-in-chief reworked the whole design and turned it into a spectacular spread. I learned the secret to success on a deadline through this spread as it was the first deadline I made on my own. It helped me write and design better by challenging me to add something that people would not expect.

CSPA COMPETITION SUBMISSIONS Y1 - FEATURE WRITING-STUDENT LIFE Pages 10-11 I would like to have this feature writing represent me because it showed how much I’ve improved as a writer. It tells three stories of three different people’s adventures during the summer for a beautician, Goodwill volunteer and a farmer. The headline wraps all the stories together to symbolize the “summertime madness.”

Y8 - HEADLINE WRITING

Pages 10-11, 106-107 and SS 6-7 These three headlines express my creativity with wordplay. The headlines captures what the spread is covering accurately in an exciting way and includes pulled color from a random picture on the page to make them stand out even more and compliment the spread.

Y16 - SPORTS ACTION PHOTO Pages 110-111 I believe this photo should represent me because it showcases an uncommon shot for wrestling. Wrestling usually has the athletes in a hold on the floor but this represents a different part of a match. The picture displays tension and anticipation evident through the Brave’s facial expression.

STUDENT LIFE, 10-11, DEADLINE 2 I want this spread to represent me because it cemented how good of a journalist I was. It shows how much I’ve grown this year. It shows how dedicated I was to tell people’s stories of their summers.

CLUBS, 6-7, DEADLINE 7 I want this spread to represent me because it is my best sports writing story that felt very informed and emotionally connected. I worked really hard editing and tweaking it that I feel it’s my second best piece of writing as a journalist.

CLUBS, K 106-107, DEADLINE 4 F This spread accurately depicts my skill in design. I’m not a master at designing but I had the basic ground for creating one. I barely had to make any tweaks on this design and it’s the easiest spread I’ve designed.

SPORTS, K 110-111, DEADLINE 5 F This spread was another one of my favorites. This spread represents me for photography because I made such an effort to take pictures of as most wresting matches this season. Although I didn’t end up getting a dominant picture taken by myself, four of the seven pictures on the spread are mine. This shows how much I’ve improved as a photographer.

MULTIMEDIA

My writing has improved so much. I believe I told the story of the match very well. I took a video of the announcers saying the names of the players and I made the readers feel like they were really there.

This was the best of the two wrap ups I did this year. I spent the whole time at the tournament tweeting, and had to stay the whole time. I made the readers relive the tournament through specific actions and names.
