TAYLOR ROBERTS 02 - Faine House Orlando, Fl 32810 April 19, 2016 To whom it may concern, I am writing to you in regards to the job for a Youth/Child Care Worker at the Children’s Home Society of Florida. The provided job description goes well with my background and experiences in my extracurricular activities. Since the age of twelve I have been assisting families with a need for child care. With these five years of experience, I have gained knowledge of the proper way to interact with children as well as alter my plans to the child’s needs and comfort. Having been around kids most of my life I have gained a great deal of patience and enjoy being around them. Therefore, I believe strongly that a job with children best suits me. Not only have I been a babysitter for a period of time, but I have also devoted my time as vice president to a club at my school known as Best Buddies. In this club the officers guide the student body to become involved with the special needs student program at Boone High School. Through my role as vice president I have conducted meetings to discuss with the members events to involve our special needs students in as well as helped guide students on interacting with the students, making them feel comfortable and not overwhelmed. My broad experience and commitment to children makes me a well qualified candidate for your Youth/Child Care Job at the Children’s Home Society of Florida. I would enjoy meeting you in the future in an interview to further discuss my qualification for this job. Sincerely, Taylor Roberts

SELF EVALUATION I initially joined journalism because my writing was weak and felt the class would help me become a stronger writer, I never could have imagined how much the class would impact me. As a second year staffer I leave this school year well rounded in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop skills, working with a new staffer and communicating with parents in a business manner. Personally, I learned how to design senior ads and business ads with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. This year was my first time on ads and I feel I picked it up quickly while also assisting a staffer who never took Journalism. In the middle of deadline, my editor had a concussion and I stepped in to help. I experienced fixing proofs while also working on my own deadline and managed to still stay ahead of deadline and have proofs ready to ship on time though placed in this position unexpectedly. I really enjoyed the aspect of ads in journalism, it was completely different than regular deadline, but it still comes with a great sense of accomplishment. I also spent a lot of my time helping a newbie when needed and enjoy helping others to stay on deadline. To stay on deadline I would create a checklist at the beginning of class as to what I needed to get done that day, then evaluate my progress at the end of class. Setting goals helped to keep me motivated and guide me along the deadline. Being on the 2016 Legend yearbook staff was an honor, working under Mrs. Burke, Matt Casler, Emma McClane, Catherine Mendoza and the other editors was an amazing privilege. As a staffer I tried my best to contribute in any way possible. I was at every workday, every ads meeting, never missed a photo day, stayed after school when needed and if any other staffers were in need of help to get something for their page I helped if possible. Many of my weekends or week nights involved yearbook, whether it was shooting an event or designing.
REFLECTION ONE My first deadline was a time capsule with cobs which was nothing new to me, then my next four were ads. So, when it came to deadline seven it was a rough start at first because I had not actually designed my own yearbook spread since last year and forgot a lot of the little things. For example, I did not have an eye line to begin with, my dominant picture was facing off the page, my captions were different widths, and I had trapped white space. Through many resubs and learning experiences the girls lacrosse page improved and looked like it belonged in the 2016 Legend. One thing that can not be seen is all the time I spent going to the lacrosse games to learn the sport and understand the team better. I attended more games than required for my beat to get better pictures for the spread and learn what games were worthy of writing the story on or mentioning. Also, I had to take pictures of multiple JV girls lacrosse games to get good action photos and show diversity for my mod on the reference page.

REFLECTION TWO Y16. Sports Action Photo I am submitting this photo because it captures the action of the game. The picture displays the player moving in between her opponents with the ball in her stick and uses rule of thirds. Depth of field is also used placing the subject in focus and the background blurred.
Y16. Sports Action Photo I am submitting this photo because it captures the intensity of weightlifting and portrays the lifter mentally preparing himself before his clean and jerk. The photo is taken at a low angle and uses rule of thirds.

Y16. Sports Action Photo I am submitting this photo because it uses rule of thirds and captures the yelling between players in a lacrosse game and shows the ball in motion as she throws it to a teammate.
