May 10, 2015 Joseph A. Ripp People Magazine Time & Life building 1271 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10020 Dear Mr. Ripp, My name is Sloan Waranch and I am applying for the Digital marketing internship for the People Magazine. I’m applying for this position because I would love to learn about marketing and designing online through a magizine with the largest audience of any american magizine. As a yearbook staff member of the Legend Yearbook I have learned how to use Adobe photoshop and Adobe Indesign. I have also learned how to make deadlines, conduct interveiws, take quality pictures and use basic design skills. Not only have I learned basic production skills, but I have also learned how to work well with other staff members, communicate with teachers and students, improve my organizational skills and complete a progect with a deadline on time. I am a hard worker, a team player and a quick learner. Being apart of the yearbook staff has taught me how to work well under pressure and become a quick problem solver. I am motivated by challenges and complete them to the best of my ability and on-time. I also take an enthusiastic, positive and creative approach to everything. I’m an avid reader of People magazine and enjoy catching up on “celebrity gossip” and enjoy reading the human-interest articles featured in the magazine. I have attached my resume along with this letter to describe my experience and my potential to making a contribution to your magazine. I hope I will get an opportunity to meet with you for an interview. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely,
SLOAN WARANCH 915 Euclid avenue Orlando, FL 32806 l swaranch520@gmail.com l (407) 883-0498

SELF ANALYTICAL ESSAY After much persuasion from my sister to enroll in journalism, I reluctantly agreed. But soon after enrolling in Journalism, it became my favorite class. I was unsure about joining Yearbook when I started the class but after learning skills in journalism (taking photos, designing, writing) and many afternoons waiting for my sister and seeing how the staff interacted, I decided to apply. I have learned so many things this year as a staffer and probably more than I will in any other class I will take. Firstly, I’ve learned basic Yearbook production skills like learning how to use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign and how to take photos, write body copy and captions. One of the biggest things I’ve learned this year was making deadlines. Making deadlines is a very crucial part of being on Yearbook and I had to learn how to balance my time well, in and outside of class and how to work well under pressure. I also learned about team work this year. Before Yearbook I always felt like I was a bit controlling when it came to group projects because I wanted things to get done the way I wanted it to get done. But this year I’ve learned to not always take the lead on deadlines and sometimes take a step back and let other people take the lead and to trust my partners with taking photos, writing body copy etc. Next year as Clubs editor I will help staffers and suggest ideas without being controlling. I also learned how pivotal dedication is to Yearbook. This year I also learned that you can’t be taught how to be dedicated or to have a passion for something, it just comes. My passion for Journalism has grown this year and because of this, I stayed committed to my deadlines and partners. In the future, dedication will help me succeed in a job and in my daily life. This year I also learned alot about myself. I learned that not everything will be perfect. I learned that it’s okay to make mistakes but instead of getting down, reflect on it and then move on. I’ve learned to have confidence in not only my work but myself. This year I was nervous about turning things into editors or Mrs. Burke in fear of disappointing them. In reality, they are there to help you and give advice. Although confidence is something I need to work on, I think it has grown immensely this year through experience. I believe I was an asset to the 2015 Legend Yearbook because I worked my hardest on all of my pages this year that i was given. I was committed, reliable and was there if any other staffers needed help.
REFELECTION ONE I would consider Deadline 3 to be my most significant work, when I worked on the Homecoming days page. From the beginning we faced the problem of finding a dominant photo. We spent a while trying to find a photo that defined the week, we couldn’t find one that seemed perfect so we ended up cobbing a photo and making it our dominant picture. There were alot of pictures and information we needed to include on our page which slowed us down through the grading process. Tedious work was a must for our page and we also had to make sure we included the right information, but through hard work, I think we completed the spread to our best ability. I think another problem that Tyler and I faced was teamwork. We both had different work strategies and I think it created miscommunication. We both had different visions of how we wanted our page to be. One of my favorite things about this page are the mods Tyler and I designed. Overall, I think the page turned out very well and I specifically like the homecoming days mod, “Hot or not” mod, the dominant cob and the body copy. I think this page was the best representation of the week that we could’ve produced.

I’ve got this. To help dean Kimberly Turley with her presentation, fellow dean Janibelle Jackson-Stuart controls the Prezi. “The most difficult part of my job is when good students make poor choices and knowing that some of the consequences have lasting effects,” Jackson said. Jackson was a dean for 3.5 years, but left in January to become an assistant principal at Lake Mary High school.
