Ongoing “Carter Collection” at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. The Carter houses one of the great collections of American art, from historical landscapes captured on canvas to city streets seen through the lens of a camera. Anchored by iconic masterworks from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the collection includes a range of artists, mediums, and styles, providing countless ways to explore and understand American creativity. They regularly change out these works, so each time you visit, you’ll encounter something new. Admission free. Take a nostalgic ride on two Victorian-style locomotives. “Puffy,” the 1896 steam locomotive, is the oldest continuously operating steam engine in the South; “Vinny” is a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive. The Cotton Belt Route Excursion, a round trip between downtown Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards, runs August 1,7,8,14,15. The 21-mile trip rolls at a leisurely pace and is perfect for the entire family. Keep an eye out for greedy outlaws onboard the Cotton Belt Route Excursion. Join in on the fun and help railroad detectives solve the mystery of who robbed the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. Tickets $18-$26.
