WHEN YOU’RE BUYING OR SELLING PROPERT Y . . . IT HAS TO BE BSPC

BSPC People . . . who’s in-house? Each issue we get to know a BSPC professional from one of BSPC’s member firms and this week we are speaking to - Janet Martin from J.D. Clark & Allan Tell us about your role within J.D. Clark & Allan?

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I am the firm’s Property Manager. I am responsible for visiting properties with a view to providing valuations and fee estimates, preparing sales particulars including floor plans and photographs, website management, sales negotiation and rental matters.

I am extremely fortunate in that I enjoy the company of the other members of staff – some of whom have been here as long as I have (!) and whom I would consider friends rather than colleagues. I also enjoy getting out and about and find it immensely satisfying to be able to facilitate a satisfactory outcome enabling vendors and buyers to move on with their lives.

How long have you worked with the firm? Now I feel old! I joined the firm in 1978 as a typist and worked for 7 years before taking an extended maternity break. I came back in 1992 and have been here ever since – taking over responsibility for property matters in 2008.

What’s your greatest achievement? My children.

Name two things you can’t live without? What keeps you busy when you’re not at the office? I am not the most active person in the world but do enjoy walking and pottering about in the garden. I also enjoy reading and have just rediscovered the therapeutic benefits of knitting.

Where’s your favourite place in the Borders? Being a Piscean I am naturally drawn to water so I would say my favourite place would be St Abbs Head (on a good day).

Tell us about your home or dream home? Having lived in older, traditional properties all my life my ideal would be an ultra modern, minimalistic affair with glass everywhere.

What would be your ideal holiday? I would like another fly drive holiday touring the west coast of America to include driving up Highway 101 from Los Angeles to San Francisco.

Reading glasses (I’m old) and Google.

What’s your favourite Borders eatery? Its been a while since I was last there but my favourite was always The Craw Inn at Auchencraw. I also like Herges on the Loch and for a cheap treat the Indian Brasserie in Eyemouth.

Who is your favourite author/ artist or designer? My all time favourite was Stieg Larsson and his Girl with the Dragon Tatoo trilogy. However I also like Dan Brown and Philippa Gregory.

What’s playing in your car right now? Radio Borders

What natural talent would you like to have? I would like to be able to draw and paint.
