Hares are all around but keep a low profile in daytime. In spring and summer the woods fill with the song of thrushes and warblers, while in winter the Teviot haughs resonate to the calls of migrant geese and swans. Nearby, the summit of Peniel Heugh and its towering monument to the Duke of Wellington offer one of the best panoramas in the Scottish Borders.

OUT & ABOUT
WELCOME
TO HARESTANES! A famous Hare once said...
“The hurrier I go; the behinder I get” And we agree - modern life is busy, complicated and often a little too rushed for our liking. It’s easy to forget to unwind and take stock of the simple joys: walking with your loved ones, savouring a home-baked treat and indulging in a little retail therapy.
Myth, history and nature combine at Harestanes - offering some of the most beautiful routes in the Scottish Borders. Whether you’re after an energetic hike or a leisurely jaunt – we’re always happy to suggest a route that’ll suit you and your abilities and we’ll be here at the end ready to offer a refreshing drink.

PLAYTIME For little ones who have lots in common with our mischievous little hare character… discover our adventure play park! Picnic benches offer the perfect setting for grown-ups to relax with a hot cup of tea.
CAFÉ Fresh home-baked scones, hearty bowls of soup with artisan bread, delicious coffee and hot drinks. We think ingredients should be sourced locally from the great Scottish larder. We change our menus seasonally to compliment the prevailing weather.
Is the only future for shopping online? How much nicer it is to experience books, gifts and food ‘in the flesh’. We curate our retail haven seasonally, buying little and often, so you’re never bored.
Speaking of grown-ups… Harestanes has plenty of fun and discovery on offer for everyone young at heart. Keep an eye on our events calendar for everything including yoga, Finnish housekeeping courses and even bushcraft!
EVENTS At Harestanes we believe in magic and wonder for children and those young at heart. Throughout the year we plan exciting events including Santa themed adventures, wildlife walks, treasure hunts and of course – our annual Apple Day extravaganza. Keep your eye out to see what’s coming up next!
