WELCOME
TO HARESTANES! Situated in the heart of the Scottish Borders, Harestanes is a unique rural setting to unwind or an ideal base to explore the Teviot Valley. Whether taking in the scenery on one of our walks, savouring a homebaked treat in our café, indulging in a little retail therapy or running around our play park Harestanes offers something for everyone...
.
CAFÉ Our freshly homebaked scones, slices, delicious coffee and hot drinks are complimented by our seasonal menu with hearty dishes or fresh soup with artisan bread. Our ingredients are sourced locally, highlighting the quality produce and tastes the Borders has to offer. We also have VisitScotland’s Taste Our Best Award. Sit in our café or enjoy the summer sunshine in our large courtyard where well-behaved dogs are welcome.
NATURAL WONDER The standing stones after which it takes its name may be long gone, but Harestanes remains a place of natural wonders and an ideal base for exploring the Teviot Valley. Hares are all around but keep a low profile in daytime. In spring and summer, the woods fill with the song of thrushes and warblers, while in winter the Teviot haughs resonate to the calls of migrant geese and swans. Nearby, the summit of Peniel Heugh and its towering monument to the Duke of Wellington offer one of the best panoramas in the Scottish Borders.
OUT & ABOUT Harestanes offers some of the most beautiful walking trails in the Scottish Borders. Whether you’re after an energetic hike or a leisurely jaunt – we’re always happy to suggest a route that’ll suit you. Nearby, the summit of Peniel Heugh and the towering Waterloo Monument offers a stunning panorama. The monument was built to celebrate the Duke of Wellington’s victory at the Battle of Waterloo over 200 years ago.
PLAYTIME For little ones who have lots in common with our mischievous little hare character, there’s a play park and sandpit, and picnic benches offer the perfect setting for grown-ups to relax.
SHOP Are you looking for a special gift? We curate our retail section seasonally, buying little and often, so we always have something new on offer. Harestanes is operated by charity Live Borders, and every penny you spend with us is reinvested into supporting active, creative and healthy communities in the Scottish Borders.
EVENTS We plan exciting events all year round! Our big events include the Santa-themed Christmas adventure, wildlife walks, live music, treasure hunts and of course – our annual Apple Day extravaganza! Keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook page to see what’s coming up next!
